Schon im Dezember haben wir Hinweise auf den ältesten Whisky aus der Destillerie Glenrothes in der TTB-Datenbank entdeckt – nun ist der Glenrothes 51yo offiziell angekündigt worden. Er stammt aus zwei Refill-Fässern und ist mit 44,6% vol. Alkoholstärke abgefüllt worden. Er kostet in den USA 46.500 Dollar (in UK 37.000 Pfund).

Von diesem Whisky sind gerade einmal 100 Flaschen abgefüllt worden, und wer sie öffnen will, muss dabei die Jesomite-Verpackung mit einem beigelegten Hammer zerschlagen, sodass sich für jede Verpackung einzigartige Bruchmuster ergeben. Jesomite ist ein ungiftiges Acryl-Resin auf Wasserbasis, das sich gut formen lässt und hier als sehr kreatives Verpackungsmaterial eingesetzt wurde.
Interessanterweise sind in den bisherigen Veröffentlichungen zum Release nur Bilder der Verpackung zu finden, sodass wir Sie über die tatschliche Flaschenform noch im Unklaren lassen müssen.

Nose: Succlent watermelon, the perfumed scent of peach kernals and fresh almonds. Richly fragrant with notes of rose oil, bergamont and black tea leaves. Base notes of sandalwood with just a hint of fennel seeds.
Palate: Fruit, fragrance and luxurious sweetness. Ripe melon, rose water, earl grey tea and a hint of antique oak. Creamy sweetness lingers with a nutty quality – ripe, freshly peeled almonds.
Finish: Fragrant with a soft, velvetly sweetness.
