TALISKER INTRODUCES TALISKER MAGMA 47-YEAR-OLD: A RARE, ULTRA-AGED SINGLE MALT SHAPED BY SKYE’S VOLCANIC PAST
An innovative finish in volcanic rock–toasted casks, released in a limited run of just 622 bottles

London 2nd April, 2026: Today, Talisker announces Talisker Magma 47-Year-Old, an exceptionally rare Single Malt inspired by the Isle of Skye’s historic volcanic formation. Nearly half a century in the making, this ultra-aged whisky captures the elemental forces that shaped the island thousands of years ago, when lava met the sea and forged its rugged coastline.
Talisker Magma showcases the distillery’s innovative approach to cask toasting, using intensely heated volcanic rocks sourced from the Isle of Skye to toast the new American oak casks. This technique was first revealed with Talisker Molten Seas and now reaches its fullest expression in this 47-Year-Old release. With only 622 bottles available globally, Talisker Magma is one of the most limited expressions in the distillery’s history.
The whisky was first matured in refill American oak hogsheads before being finished for four months in new American oak casks toasted by volcanic rocks from the Isle of Skye. Replacing the traditional open-flame method, the rocks are heated before the barrels rotate around them, toasting the interior without direct contact with the staves. Steaming during the process keeps the cask hydrated and maintains a steady, controlled temperature. The absence of combustion brings out the taste of the fruit, developing notable depth and complexity. The result is an elemental balance of sweet smoke, mineral salinity and warming spice, a powerful expression of Talisker’s rugged coastal character.

Presented in a sculptural bottle that mirrors the meeting of sea and volcanic rock, Talisker Magma reflects the dramatic landscape of Skye itself. Crafted from 100% recycled glass with a gradient fade from clear to black, it evokes ocean depths and molten stone, while a hand-sculpted glass stopper inspired by volcanic obsidian ensures each bottle is subtly unique.
Talisker Magma opens on the nose with soft minerality, a sea-washed character and Talisker’s familiar chilli-pepper warmth. The palate delivers a smooth, silky texture that builds into a gentle wave of volcanic spice, salinity and sweetness. The finish is long and balanced, with cooling Sichuan pepper and a warm afterglow.
Greg Bruce, Master Blender says:
“Talisker Magma represents a new frontier in how we approach cask finishes at the distillery. Working with volcanic rock-toasted casks allowed us to unearth new depths, revealing greater layers of fruit, smoke and spice. There’s a deeply elemental connection in this whisky, linking the distillery to Skye’s volcanic landscapes, while preserving Talisker’s signature maritime character and chilli-pepper warmth”.
Talisker Magma 47-Year-Old will be released in extremely limited quantities via the private client teams and in highly select luxury retailers in the UK, select European and APAC countries, and the US and Global Travel Retail, with an RRSP of $5,250 excluding taxes

TASTING NOTES
Nose: A mellow nose with a just gentle hint of that Talisker chilli-pepper prickle. The initial impression is distinctly
mineral and maritime, led by wet rocks, dry edible seaweed and salt crystals backed by sweet notes of Scottish toffee, then scented sandalwood with a trace of hessian. Later, a very faint smoky note suggests a bonfire in the background. This is increased if water is added.
Taste: A creamy-smooth, silky texture introduces an unusually mineral, intense and lightly sweet initial taste, with the mineral note becoming a familiar pinch of salt that joins with notes of sweet Scottish toffee mid-palate to herald the rise of an elemental spicy warmth. This spreads across the tongue like a never-ending flow of lava from the earth’s core,
interweaving volcanic smoke and sweetness. The classic chilli ‘catch’ at the back is smoother, yet still there. Water is not needed, but if added a drop reduces the intensity and raises the mineral note.
Finish: Long with spicy but also mouth-cooling notes of sichuan chilli-pepper and a long, warming glow in the aftertaste. Magnificent.
