Während der Eröffnungsfeier der neuen Destillerie von The Macallan (wir berichteten hier) wurde bereits darüber gesprochen, nun ist er offiziell angekündigt: Der neue The Macallan 72yo in Lalique soll im August dieses Jahres erscheinen, wie auf der Webseite der Destillerie angekündigt wurde.
Der in einer Auflage von 600 Stück auf den Markt kommende Genesis-Decanter in einer aufwendig gearbeiteten Holzbox enthält den ältesten bislang veröffentlichten Whisky von The Macallan und wurde anlässlich der Einweihung des neuen Besucherzentrums, das ab nächster Woche der Öffentlichkeit zur Verfügung steht, kreiert.
Der von Lalique geschaffene Decanter soll mit seiner sich hebenden und senkenden Silhouette an das Dach der neuen Destillerie erinnern, die Kasette ist nach einem Design von Burgess Studio von NEJ Stevenson handgefertigt. Der Whisky selbst stammt aus den 1940ern und wird in ausgewählten Stores, an einigen Flughäfen und im Besucherzentrum selbst käuflich erwerbbar sein. Ein Preis wird auf der Webseite nicht genannt, in anderen Quellen spricht man von 60.000 Dollar.

“For its seventy-two years of maturation, the deceptively light colour hints that this is not an ordinary single malt. The whisky delivers surprise after surprise as aromas of fruit follow distinctive hints of peat, all the way through to the back of the mouth where it is finished off with a lingering hint of rich fruit and oak. Although delicate throughout all aspects, it provides an intense experience which acknowledges the distinguished history of The Macallan.”

NOSE
A delicate peat starts, leading to a soft, aged oak smoke. A body of refreshing citrus lemons and green apples, with a background of vanilla pods and raisins, with the smallest hint of ginger.
PALATE
Delicate peat smoke combines with a soft vanilla, and a surprising sweet oak smoke. A gentle wood spice combines with a delicate peat smoke, which gradually fades to leave a viscous mouth coating of citrus fruits and subtle green apples.
FINISH
Medium and fruity, with a sweet oaky mouth feel.
