Mit heutigem Datum hat Irish Distillers eine neue Abfüllung der Marke Method and Madness angekündigt: Method and Madness – Oats and Malt (46% vol.) ist ein dreifach destillierter irischer Whiskey aus der Midleton Micro Distillery mit einer Mashbill bestehend aus 40% Malt und 60% Hafer. Der Whisky reifte in ex-Bourbon Fässern. Er stammt aus den Händen von Katherine Condon.
Geschmacklich wird der Whiskey so beschrieben: malzig, mit den süßen Noten von Verialien, grünem Apfel und Zitronenzesten, durch den Hafer kommt der Geschmack von Mashmallows und Fudge und ein cremiges Finish.

“Nearly a year on from the release of Method and Madness – Rye and Malt, we are extremely proud to introduce the world to the second release from our Micro Distillery in Midleton. The innovations within Irish whiskey continue to play a key role in growing the industry and it is a joy to be a part of that with the work we do at the Micro Distillery. The Oats and Malt release represents something exciting. By working with traditional malted barley in copper pot stills and combining this with Irish sourced oats, we are honouring our past while pushing forward with innovation. This is an extraordinary Irish whiskey offering that is a first for Method and Madness.”
Der Whiskey ist zur Zeit in UK, Irland und am Flughafen Dublin zu erhalten, dort kostet er 95 Euro.
Mit dem Cù Bòcan 15 Year Old werden Whiskyfreunde in jene Zeiten zurücktransportiert, als die Highland-Brennerei Tomatin damit begann, im Winter 2005 für eine Woche getorften Spirit zu produzieren und ihn nach entsprechender Reifung unter dem Namen Cù Bòcan zu verkaufen – die erste Ausgabe erschien 2013.
Der Cù Bòcan 15 Year Old ist über die gesamte Zeit in Oloroso Sherry Casks gelegen und hat dadurch Noten von getrockneten Früchten, flambierter Orangenschale, Honeycomb Toffee, schwarzer Kirsche und Kardamom erhalten. Er wird jährlich erscheinen, Batch #1 umfasst 3000 Flaschen. Die Flasche wird in UK 95 Pfund kosten.

Cù Bòcan releases Limited Edition 15 Year Old, the first age-stated whisky added to the range
Cù Bòcan Single Malt has just released (Friday 30th) a limited edition 15 Year Old, this is the brand’s first age-stated whisky expression. The 15 Year Old has been fully matured in Oloroso Sherry casks for a minimum of 15 years, this 2022 Edition is the first in a series of planned annual batch releases.
The award winning experimental Highland Single Malt is distilled every winter at Tomatin Distillery in limited batches and made with lightly peated Scottish barley for its signature wisp of smoke. In late 2005, after Tomatin had achieved its annual production quota, the Distillery Manager at the time brought in a load of lightly peated barley allowing the distillery to produce its own peated spirit for the last week of the year.
This production coincided with incredibly low water temperatures and resulted in a slightly oilier mouthfeel in the new make spirit. Recognising the quality of this spirit, the distillery continued to produce Cù Bòcan in small batches every winter since 2005. The newly released Cù Bòcan 15 Year Old features some of the first lightly peated spirit to be laid down in casks.
Matured fully in Oloroso Sherry casks for a minimum of 15 years, Cù Bòcan 15 Year Old is a decadent single malt with sun dried fruits and smoky exotic spices. The Oloroso Sherry casks impart flavours of dried fruits, flamed orange peel, cinder toffee, black cherry and cardamom. The peat provides a traditional earthy dryness rather than an obvious smoke, this has helped keep some of the sweeter elements of the sherry casks perfectly balanced.
Cù Bòcan is also renowned for exploring innovative maturations, creating whiskies full of intrigue and surprise. Earlier this year the brand released two new expressions within their Creation series, Creation #3, matured in Moroccan Cabernet Sauvignon casks and Creation #4, matured in a combination of Port and Cognac casks.
The current Cù Bòcan range now comprises of Cù Bòcan Signature, the only ongoing product within the range, matured in Bourbon, Oloroso Sherry and North American Virgin Oak casks, the Creation series and the newly released Cù Bòcan 15 Year Old.

Each Cù Bòcan Single Malt offers an exploration in the subtleties of smoke, the character of the casks and the mastery of maturation. The range is always non-chill filtered and natural in colour. Cù Bòcan 15 Year Old, 2022 Edition, has been bottled at 50% Abv. and is a limited batch release with only 3,000 bottles available worldwide.

Die Cairn Distillery von Gordon & MacPhail in Grantown-on-Spey ist dieser Tage von der Baufirma Morrison Construction an die Eigentümer übergeben worden. Die Baulichkeiten sind (abgesehen von etwas Feinschliff im Besucherzentrum) abgeschlossen, die Anlage und die Gerätschaften sind betriebsbereit.
Donald McLachlan von der Baufirma und Richard Forsyth vom gleichnamigen renommierten Kupferschmied, verantwortlich für die Ausstattung, trafen sich in der Brennerei mit Ewen Macintosh, dem Managing Director bei Gordon & MacPhail, für die symbolische Übergabe.
Noch heuer will man in der Brennerei die ersten Besucher empfangen. Man wird dort Tastings anbieten, für das leibliche Wohl sorgt vor Ort das Lokal The Gathering, und auch Geschenke und dergleichen wird man einkaufen können. Den ersten Spirituosenlauf hat man bereits hinter sich.
The Cairn Distillery ist die erste Brennerei, die Gordon & MacPhail, der alteingesessene unabhängige Abfüller aus Elgin, von null auf gebaut hat. Mit Benromach besitzt man zwar bereits eine eigene Brennerei, aber diese wurde „nur“ gekauft.
Sonntags frühstückt man ja etwas später, wenn es möglich ist. Damit wäre das Whiskeyfrühstück auf Zoom, das irish-whiskeys.de am 16. Oktober um 11 Uhr plant, zeitlich ganz gut eingetaktet. Zum Frühstück gibt’s einen irischen Likör als amuse bouche, und danach vier irische Whiskeys abseits des Mainstreams. Das Set besteht aus 1x Likör, 4x Whiskeys je 5 cl und vielen Köstlichkeiten:
Zwei neue Abfüllung aus der preisgekrönten Back Bottle Alchemy Serie, dem Blend aus dem Hause Distell (Besitzer von Bunnahabhain, Tobermory und Deanston), sind für den internationalen Markt präsentiert worden. Mit ihnen will man die Tradition der experimentellen Blends fortsetzen. Für den Black Bottle Andean Oak hat man Eichenfässer aus den südamerikanischen Anden verwendet, Holz, dass sowohl die Süße amerikanischer Eiche wie auch die Würzigkeit der Eichenarten Europas verbindet. Und der Black Bottle Smoke & Dagger wurde mit bemerkenswerter Rauchigkeit ausgestattet, die er von stark getorftem Moine-Spirit aus Bunnahabhain erhält. Dennoch soll der Rauch die anderen Geschmackskomponenten nicht überdecken.

Black Bottle Scotch Whisky has today announced two brand-new single-batch-produced expressions in its award-winning Alchemy Series – Black Bottle Andean Oak and Black Bottle Smoke & Dagger. Both expressions will be available globally from 10th October, however UK- based Black Bottle fans will be able to get their hands on them from 3rd October via Master of Malt.
Drawing inspiration from the story of brand’s founders over 140 years ago, the Alchemy Series pays tribute to the relentless experimentation of Gordon Graham and his brothers in creating Black Bottle. This year’s ‘experiments’, follow on from the success of last year’s Alchemy Series expressions which received incredible acclaim, scooping category winner accolades at the ISC, IWSC and World Whisky Awards.
A true experiment, Black Bottle Andean Oak is the first Scotch Whisky to be created with virgin Andean Oak casks at the heart of its recipe. These casks impart a similar character to American Oak, but with more tannins and spice than their continental neighbour. Featuring a high malt content with a smoky undertone, Black Bottle Andean Oak delivers flavours of spiced stone fruits, vanilla pod and smoked almonds.
Black Bottle’s whisky alchemists have combined smoke and charred oak to create Black Bottle Smoke & Dagger: a dark, smoky and intriguing spirit with a hidden edge. Fusing together smoother, older malts with a one-off, supercharged, highly-peated Moine, Smoke & Dagger offers a powerful yet balanced taste. Featuring a mix of unconventional blending techniques, Smoke & Dagger delivers a powerfully peaty taste with waves of golden barley, vanilla cream and coastal sea spray, finishing with lingering smoky salted caramel.
Both expressions are bottled at 46.3% ABV, featuring natural colour and no chill filtration.

“Fearless experimentation is so important to Black Bottle and this year’s new expressions perfectly capture that ethos. We pushed ourselves this year to try something never attempted before in whisky and couldn’t be happier with the result. Both expressions offer drinkers the opportunity to explore the world of smoky whisky in new and exciting ways.
“Andean Oak explores the sweeter side of smoke and gives way to all the incredible flavours that this rare cask imparts. Having never worked with this cask type before, we didn’t know what to expect but the end result is just beautiful! Lots of nutty spice and stone fruit with that lovely hit of smoke that Black Bottle is known for. Smoke & Dagger is a real powerhouse with a double hit of smokiness coming from the malts of course, but the grains finished in ex-peated casks really elevates it and balances it with a rounded sweetness too. We’re really proud of these and hope our Black Bottle fans love them as much as we do!”
Black Bottle will mark the global launch of these new limited-edition expressions with a three- day mind-reading pop-up in Manchester that will challenge taste perceptions around smoky whisky.
Using cutting edge electroencephalography technology (EEG), Black Bottle will measure electrical activity inside a person’s brain at the Cane & Grain bar in Manchester’s Northern Quarter as they watch video footage showcasing an abstract visualisation of tasting notes and ingredients. The technology will track the viewer’s brain response, revealing that their tastes might not be what they think.

“Whisky drinkers are looking for new and exciting spirit experiences, becoming less concerned with traditional whisky categories and instead are shopping across the whisky – and indeed premium spirits – spectrum. The Alchemy Series launched in 2021 with two experimental releases (Double Cask and Island Smoke). They were the only two blended Scotch Whiskies to scoop a highly coveted ‘Master’ award at the Scotch Whisky Masters. Island Smoke was also named Best Scotch Blended whisky in the 2022 World Whisky Awards, whilst Double Cask was announced category winner at both the 2022 ISC and IWSC awards.
The two new limited-edition expressions join Experiment #1 and #2 as well as Black Bottle’s Original and 10-year-old expressions. Experiments 3 & 4 of the Alchemy Series are available globally from 10th October and in the UK from 3rd October via Master of Malt, strictly while stocks last.

21 und 18 Jahre alt sind die beiden französischen Whiskys, die Serge Valentin heute verkostet – und für französische Verhältnisse sind das biblische Altersangaben.

NEOC-Fässer sind eine Variation der STR-Fässer. Es handelt sich um ex-Rotweinfässer aus der Bordeaux-Region, die zunächst ausgeschabt werden (shaved), und dann nochmals getoasted – und zwar nach Vorgaben der Brennereien. Im Gegensatz zu den STR-Fässern wird hier auf das re-charren verzichtet.

Best Drinking Friends – Thorsten Frahling, Julia Nourney und Mareike Spitzer Die Pandemie hat auch unser Leben geändert und aus gemeinsamen Live Streams, die während der Lockdowns entstanden sind, sind Freunde geworden: Best Drinking Friends.
Während eines Live Streams kam die Abkürzung BDF auf und daraus wurden die Best Drinking Friends. Einige gemeinsame Live Streams haben wir in den vergangen 2-Jahren auf die Beine gestellt. Über klassische Whiskeyverkostungen und Gin Tastings bis zu einem gemeinsamen St. Patrick’s Tasting war alles dabei. So viele verschiedene Whiskeys wurden gemeinsam verkostet und über so einige und einiges philosphiert, aber es wurde auch viel gelacht und gesungen. Nach einem dieser vielen Online Stunden entstand dann die Idee zu einem eigenen Whiskey.
Nach dem Erfolg der ersten Abfüllung, folgt nun Release No. 2. Diesmal viel die Wahl auf einen 5 Jahre alten Double Distilled Malt, der zunächst 4 Jahre in einem First-fill Bourbonfass reifte und dann ein NEOC (New Era of Cask) Finish erhielt.
Ein schöner Whiskey, der mit Frucht- und würzigen Noten spielt und mit einer enormen Komplexität überzeugt.

Aroma: weiches Malz, Muskat, Zedernholz, Bananenchips, Limettenzesten, rote Johannisbeeren Geschmack: getreidig-würzig mit Malz, etwas warmer Rauch, Trockenfrüchte, intensive Röstaromen von Kakao-Bohnen und Bucheckern, herbale Würznoten Nachklang: sehr lang anhaltend, zuerst trocken, zunehmend entwickelt sich eine weiche, malzige, fast fruchtige Süße und ein immer samtigeres Mundgefühl
Gerade eben hat die Brennerei Tobermory auf der Isle of Mull zwei neue Abfüllungen vorgestellt, die ab morgen global in den Handel kommen sollten. Neben einem Tobermory 21yo wird es auch eine neue rauchige Abfüllung aus der Destillerie geben, wie immer unter der Marke Ledaig: den Ledaig 9yo Bordeaux Red Wine Cask matured, und dieser ist tatsächlich vollständig in Bordeaux-Fässern gereift.

Tobermory Distillery has announced the global launch of two new releases: a limited edition Ledaig 9-year-old Bordeaux Red Wine Cask Matured, and Tobermory 21-year-old to be part of the distillery’s core range.
The two unique expressions are being released as a collection to embody the many contrasts of the boutique distillery’s beautiful island home: the idyllic Hebridean Isle of Mull.
Both releases are bursting with flavour and vibrancy, transporting whisky drinkers on a journey to Mull – a rich land of complexity and contrasting landscapes, famed for its incredible scenery, wildlife, landscapes, and welcoming residents.
Limited Edition Ledaig 9-year-old Bordeaux Red Wine Cask matured
A demonstration of Tobermory’s Hebridean artistry, the Ledaig 2012 limited edition is fully matured in hand-selected Bordeaux red wine casks, giving it a unique flavour profile.
This brand new peated dram is one in a collection of limited-edition releases which are created by using a selection of interesting casks to produce truly exceptional whiskies.
Brimming with layers of heather and pinecones, Ledaig 9-year-old transports drinkers to the edge of Mull’s wild and rugged landscapes.
Aged nine years, this cask strength is bronze in colour and boasts smoked fudge, eucalyptus oil and sweet, yet earthy notes on the nose, with grape skins, melons, and wood smoked meats on the palate.
Those lucky enough to enjoy this whisky will savour salted sea air flowing over floral notes and lime pastille to finish.
Tobermory 21-Year-Old
Tobermory 21 (47.3% ABV) is a new core range expression which joins the distillery’s award winning and world-famous 12-year-old.
High aged, high quality, small batch, the core expression represents the distillery’s boutique nature and Hebridean home.
Contrasting with the lightly smoked limited edition Ledaig, the unpeated 21-year-old is finished in Spanish Oloroso casks with notes of cherry wood, brown sugar and caramelised pineapples. Both releases are a true demonstration of Tobermory’s distilling artistry, incorporating unusual casks to create maximum flavour.
The deep gold liquid features marzipan, hazelnuts, toffee and treacle on the nose and the sweetness of the Oloroso cask finish is reminiscent of foraged fruit found scattered across Mull, staying true to its island home and heritage.

Naugthy but nice – Manufaktur Lehmitz bringt Red Light District Hamburg Malt Whisky
Was haben Pole Dance und der Hamburg Malt Whisky gemeinsam? Nach dem Domina Finish vom Hamburg Malt Whisky der Manufaktur Lehmitz, gibt es demnächst die „Rotlicht“ Edition. Man habe sich etwas von der Domina entfernt, trotzdem ist man dem Rotlichtmillieu treu geblieben.
Die „Rotlicht“ Edition (Red Light District) vom Hamburg Malt Whisky ist in diesem Fall eine Vermählung von zwei Fässern aus dem UNESCO Weltkulturerbe der historischen Speicherstadt Hamburgs. Zum einen wählte Marco Lehmitz einen Whisky aus neuem Holz (Medium Plus getoasted), zum anderen seinen Lieblingswhisky aus dem Amarone Fass. Der Amarone gehört zweifellos zu den hochwertigsten Rotweinen Italiens, dessen Trauben in der Sonne getrocknet wurden. Bei der Kelterung dieser Trauben entsteht ein „Konzentrat“ welches dann in den Holzfässern zum Amarone heranreift.
Bei dieser Abfüllung handelt es sich um eine wahre Aromenexplosion, die schon auf der Messe Intertabac vorgestellt wurde. So wie die letzte Abfüllung mit dem Domina Finish verspricht dieser Whisky mit Fassstärke von ca. 60% das Highlight in diesem Jahr zu werden.
Pedro Ximenez und Oloroso – aus diesen beiden Sherryfass-Typen hat Master Blenderin Rachel Barrie die elfte Inkarnation des Glendronach Grandeur komponiert – einen 28 Jahre alten Single Malt, der mit 48,9% vol. abgefüllt wurde, und natürlich ohne Fabrstoffe oder Kühlfiltrierung auskommt.
Man wird den GlenDronach Grandeur Batch 11 ab Oktober im gut sortierten Fachhandel finden, die Veröffentlichung der limitierten Ausgabe ist weltweit geplant. Einen Preis nennt man in der nachfolgenden Presseaussendung nicht.

The GlenDronach Grandeur Batch 11 is a 28 year old Single Malt hand-selected by Master Blender, Rachel Barrie, from a small number of rare Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks.
Having matured in fine sherry casks for nearly three decades, this rare and luxurious expression epitomises mastery of the finest Spanish sherry cask maturation. It embodies The GlenDronach’s commitment to crafting the most exceptional Single Malts, using time-honoured methods passed down through the generations for almost two centuries.
A limited number of Batch 11 bottles will be available from selected specialist retailers, with each individual bottle sealed with wax and numbered by hand to reflect its rarity
Rachel Barrie, Master Blender said: “The GlenDronach Grandeur is an unparalleled range of the finest aromas and character from masterful Spanish oak sherry cask maturation. A Single Malt of elegant finesse, this expression offers a symphony of sherry aromatics interwoven with dark manuka honey, roasted almond and walnut. The GlenDronach Grandeur Batch 11 is bottled at 48.9% ABV, and as is the case for all The GlenDronach expressions, develops its deep colour naturally over time from the Spanish oak in which it rests. It will be available to buy from specialist retailers worldwide from October 2022.
Tasting notes:
Colour: Ruby tinged walnut.
Nose: Opulent and powerful with a symphony of sherry aromatics, interwoven with dark manuka honey, roasted almond and walnut. Baked plum and ginger captivate the senses, deepening to rustic vintage leather and freshly ground coffee.
Palate: Intense and full-bodied with dark fruit notes on a base of velvet and fine leather. A crescendo of black cherry and espresso adorns each mouthful.
Finish: Richly rewarding, with a persistent chocolate, liquorice and walnut finish.

Explored in a bold graphic-novel style, cocktail-making is reframed through characters and journeys. Carefully created by our Brand Ambassadors, each cocktail and serve highlights the whisky collection for fans to recreate at home and enter a new world of Special Releases.

Mackmyra launches Extra Rök 2.0
GÄVLE, Sweden, Sept. 29, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — After years of development, through analysis and refinement, Mackmyra is now launching Extra Rök 2.0 – an updated recipe and the smokiest yet from the Swedish whisky pioneer. Together, the new recipe with a carefully selected cask, Mackmyra offers the smokiest experience of the autumn.
Extra heart, extra smoke
With innovation and curiosity deeply rooted in Mackmyra’s DNA, a development project began. The goal was to create the smokiest whisky in the company’s history. By breaking between the heart and tail slightly later in the distillation process than in the past, more phenols and stronger smoke character emerged. With a larger cut of the heart at 60.5%, the distillate produced has a stronger smoke but with continued richness, fruity and floral notes that characterise the distillery’s craft that has gained appreciation around the world.
With Extra Rök 2.0 aged in the correct 30-litre casks within the Mackmyra Reserve cask concept, the result will be the smokiest whisky yet.
The recipe will be available from 29 September and is offered in carefully selected ex-bourbon casks to bring out the fullest of the smoke and rich qualities of the recipe.
