In unserem nachfolgenden Beitrag haben wir zwei Pressemitteilungen von heute für Sie zusammengefasst, die beide einen Rye-Release einer bekannten US-Bourbonmarke ankündigen: Knob Creek Bourbon X Rye und Elijah Craig Toasted Rye. Beide sind (vorerst?) nur in den USA erhältlich, ein Umstand, an den sich Bourbon-Fans wohl leider bereits gewöhnt haben. Wir berichten trotzdem darüber, denn mit dem Wissen um die Releases in den USA hat man ja unter Umständen auch die Möglichkeit, sich diese über private Kanäle zu besorgen, sollten sie nicht sowieso später über verschlungene Pfade nach Deutschland kommen.

New expression finished in custom toasted new oak barrels adds sweet complexity to Elijah Craig Straight Rye’s unique spice
BARDSTOWN, Ky., July 17, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Elijah Craig, a leading family of premium American Whiskeys, today announced the launch of Elijah Craig Toasted Rye. In 1789, Elijah Craig was the first to char oak barrels to make Bourbon, leading to him being credited as the ‚Father of Bourbon‘. The newest expression continues this tradition of barrel innovation and as a result, adds complex layers of soft and creamy milk chocolate to the characteristic spice notes of Elijah Craig Straight Rye.
The process begins with fully matured Elijah Craig Straight Rye Whiskey, which is dumped and then re-entered at barrel proof into a second, custom toasted new oak barrel designed in partnership with Independent Stave Company. The toast on these secondary barrels is unique to Elijah Craig Toasted Rye. At the end of the toasting process, a cap is placed on the barrel to quickly ramp up the heat to an extremely high temperature allowing phenols to embed in the surface of the barrel for an added element of smoke to complement the spice and sweetness of the Rye. Unlike many other finished whiskeys, this whiskey retains its status as a Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey because the second finishing barrel is both new and charred.

Elijah Craig Toasted Rye is made as a traditional American Straight Rye Whiskey with 51% rye, 35% corn and 14% malted barley. This combination of grains, which relies heavily on corn as the secondary grain rather than a higher percentage of rye, has been the primary Rye mashbill used by Kentucky Bourbon distilleries since taking over nearly all American Rye production post-Prohibition. Allowing Elijah Craig Rye to rest for a finishing period in the secondary barrel adds the perfect amount of balance from the toast to the classic rye spice.
Each bottle of Elijah Craig Toasted Rye Whiskey will bear hints of softened dark green with the toasted rye designation prominently featured at the top of the label and decorated on the bottle. Ein neuer Macallan in der Red Collection wurde heute von der Destillerie vorgestellt, der The Macallan Red Collection 73 Years Old.
Man beschreibt den Whisky wie folgt:
This single malt exemplifies the unrivalled commitment to the mastery of wood and spirit for which The Macallan has been known since it was established 1824. Javi Aznarez brings the flavour notes of this expression to life through a short, illustrated animation.
The nose is effervescent and incredibly intricate with a medley of antique oak, apricot jam, fine liquorice and treacle tart. Soft baked apple, nutmeg and tropical notes add to the complexity.
On the palate it is initially sweet and mouthcoating, with dates, sweet woodsmoke, bittersweet treacle toffee and a hint of aromatic leafiness. There’s a fruitiness and salinity reminiscent of a fine Palo Cortado. Soft tannins, subtle spice, treacle and a continued minerality that elongates the finish.

Abgefüllt ist der The Macallan Red Collection 73 Years Old übrigens mit 44,2% vol. Alkoholstärke. Die Anzahl der abgefüllten Flaschen ist uns nicht bekannt.
Nach Investition einer nicht näher spezifizierten Summe in Millionenhöhe und uwei Jahren Planungs- und Bauzeit hat nun auf dem Gelände der Lancaster Brauerei im gleichnamigen Ort eine neue Destillerie namens „The Whisky Room“ eröffnet – und wird nach drei Jahren, also 2027, bereits den ersten Whisky abfüllen (Gin und Wodka produziert man bereits).
Managing Director Phil Simpson unreißt die Geschichte und den Zweck der neuen Brennerei so:
“We’ve invested a seven-figure sum to create this new venture for the Lancaster Spirits Company. We first started planning a whisky business during the Covid shutdown and it has taken a few years to realise our dreams.
“A real Lancastrian team effort – our sister company, Lancaster Brewery, will brew a special wash, specifically for the whisky distillery. Lancaster Spirits Co then takes over with the distilling, maturing and bottling of the whisky. Milling, brewing, fermenting, distilling and maturing – all in one place.
“Earlier this year we spent months interviewing people from across the UK for roles with us and ultimately recruited some excellent locally-based whisky specialists to handle the production and commercial management of the business, individuals who will ensure our whisky is of undeniable quality and the business is expertly managed.”
In der Anlage, die ein Lagerhaus und die Brennerei umfasst, stehen eine 3000-Liter-Brennblase aus Kupfer und Stahl sowie weitere Gerätschaft und Fassregale. Insgesamt ist der Komplex bereits als eine Art Schaubrennerei geplant und gebaut worden. Schon in diesem Jahr wird man Führungen anbieten.
Um den Verkauf und die Produktion bei der The Whisky Room Distillery werden sich zwei Fachleute kümmern: Christopher Pateman von Annandale und The Lakes Distillery wird sich um die kommerziellen Belange der Whisky Room Distillery kümmern, dazu kommz Joan Casals als Produktionsleiterin (zvor Halewood Artisanal Spirits).

Bei der Destillerie Glenturret sind soeben die Abfüllungen der neuen Core Collection 2024 vorgestellt worden. Es sind acht Abfüllungen, dabei auch der Glenturret 25yo und der Glenturret 30yo. Die Preise der ABfüllungen bewegen sich zwischen 62 und 2100 Pfund.

Hand-selected from the greatest inventory of aged Scotch Whisky in the world, aficionados and collectors alike are invited to take a journey through the House of Hazelwood’s third collection of aged and rare whiskies, which pay homage to the adventuring spirit of the Gordon family.
Released today, the collection of eight blended malt and grain whiskies takes connoisseurs on a journey from The Transatlantic 33-Year-Old Blended Grain Whisky, which reflects the very best that Scottish and American whisk(e)y making has to offer, to the coast of Islay and the Queen of the Hebrides, a 36-Year-Old Islay Blended Malt Scotch Whisky a heavily peated partner offering up a maelstrom of maritime characteristics.
Based on the philosophy that the whisky is ‘ready when its ready’ the collection of eight whiskies are once again unique, irreplaceable, and one-of-a-kind. This is most aptly reflected by the rarest whisky in the latest release – The Last Trace, a 58-Year-Old Blended Malt Scotch Whisky. With just 65 bottles available worldwide this truly is the last remaining traces of this Blended Malt, which has been matured in American White Oak for nearly 60 years.

We invited renowned whisky experts and writers Charlie Maclean and Howard Yu, to taste our third collection, with both commenting that these are exceptional whiskies.
Commenting on The Last Trace, Charlie, who has dedicated his life to studying and promoting whisky, becoming one of the leading authorities, said:

The Old Ways, a 1972 Vintage Single Grain Scotch Whisky epitomises this as a true champion of a bygone time, the encapsulation of the 1970s whisky making methodology long since lost.
The final two in the collection leave their own standout, unapologetic and bold impressions on the drinker. An outstanding sherry bomb, ‘A Minute to Midnight’ a 45-Year-Old Blended Scotch Whisky is unashamed in its depth and is one to be kept under lock and key until it can be truly savoured in the quiet hours of the night. While The Hazelwood Highlander, a 33-Year-Old Blended Scotch Whisky, transports you to the rich luscious rolling hills of the Scottish countryside in summer. It is also the spiritual sibling of The Lowlander, which was released as part of collection two.

Heute geht es mit dem zweiten Teil der Verkostung von Whiskys aus der Brennerei Ben Nevis weiter – und auch diesmal sind es sechs Abfüllungen, die Serge genauer unter die Lupe nimmt.
Diesmal liegen die Punktewertungen noch höher als gestern, aber was sich nicht verändert hat ist der Umstand, dass alle Bottlings in letzter Zeit veröffentlicht wurden und man daher einige davon durchaus noch im Handel finden könnte.
Whiskys aus Bourbonfässern, die nicht mit einem Finish versehen wurden, haben den geschmacklichen Vorteil dass sie, wenn sie gut kuratiert wurden, den Destilleriecharakter in den Vordergrund stellen. Vanished ist der Titel der ersten Abfüllung von whics neuer Whisky Serie Lost Worlds. Dahinter verbirgt sich ein 12-jähriger Single Malt Whisky aus der Glen Spey Distillery. Mit intensiven hellen Frucht- und Karamellnoten wird der Einstand zelebriert. Ein herrlicher Vorgeschmack auf die unterschätzten nicht rauchigen Juwelen, die in der Lost Worlds Reihe noch erscheinen werden.
Bei einer hervorragenden Trinkstärke von 46% Vol. kommen die Vorzüge der 1st Use Bourbonfass-Reifung im Einzelfass #802471 zum Vorschein: Ein Strudel aus Karamell, saftigen Birnen und Butterstreuseln nimmt alle Sinne ein. Für die Lost Worlds Serie von whic werden leckere, nicht rauchige Whiskys aus Bourbonfässern von Signatory bei einer angenehmen Trinkstärke von 46% Vol. abgefüllt. Zu erschwinglichen Preisen lassen sich dank der klassischen Reifung unterschiedliche Hausstile so einiger unterschätzter Brennereien erforschen. Natürlich sind die Lost Worlds Whiskys weder kühlgefiltert, noch gefärbt. So kann jeder Tropfen sein volles Aromenpotenzial ausschöpfen. Vollendet wird jede Flasche mit eindrucksvollen Motiven vergessener, dystopischer Welten.
Es ist wieder soweit: Die SWA, die Interessensvertretung der schottischen Whiskydestillerien, hat die aktualisierte Ausgabe ihrer Karte aller Brennereien in Schottland in der aktualisierten Ausgabe von 2024 veröffentlicht. Insgesamt 151 Brennereien (143 Malt Whisky, 8 Grain Distilleries) sind darin eingetragen, wie zu erwarten mehr als im Vorjahr. Ab September: Whisky aus 90 Jahren Nikka: Jubiläumsabfüllung Nine Decades
Nikka lässt es zum 90. Geburtstag richtig krachen: Mit The Nikka Nine Decades veröffentlichen die japanischen Pioniere eine Sonderabfüllung mit Whisky aus neun Jahrzehnten. Der World Blended Whisky kombiniert Malt- und Grain-Bestandteile aus den 1940er bis 2020er Jahren. Destilliert wurden diese in sechs verschiedenen Nikka-Brennereien von Yoichi bis Ben Nevis in den schottischen Highlands.
Mehr als 50 Whisky-Komponenten, darunter der älteste Malt Whisky von Yoichi und Miyagikyo sowie neuer Grain Whisky von Moji und Satsumastukasa, wurden ausgewählt, um Nikkas Erbe und Zukunft zu repräsentieren. Mit ungefilterten 48% vol. wurde der Premium-Blend in handgefertigte Flaschen gefüllt, die im Edo-Bori-Verfahren, einer aus Tokio stammenden Glasschnitztechnik, hergestellt wurden.
Nur 964 der insgesamt 4.000 Stück sind ab September in Europa erhältlich – präsentiert in einer Display-Box, deren verspiegelte Innenseiten die Master Blender würdigen, die in den letzten 90 Jahren an den enthaltenen Whiskys arbeiteten. Tasting Notes:
Nase: Eine üppige Süße von Apfelkuchen und Rosinen mit Röstnoten aus dem Fass führt zu einer sanften Rauchigkeit und dem nostalgischen Duft von antiken Möbeln. Komplexe und vielschichtige Aromen versetzen in das Warehouse, in dem der Whisky friedlich geschlummert hat.
Gaumen: Weiches Eichenholz mit großer Tiefe bildet die Basis und strukturiert den würzigen Zimt, die gerösteten Nüsse und die kräftige Zartbitterschokolade. Eine subtile Bitterkeit von Torf wird durch süße Aprikosenmarmelade und Ahornsirup ausgeglichen, während eine allgemeine Wärme den Eindruck erweckt, vor einem Kamin zu sitzen.
Nachklang: Sanfter Torf wird von einem vollen Körper mit süßen und sauren Noten umhüllt, die in einem sehr langen Nachklang eine angenehme Bitterkeit einbringen.
(Smoky) News of the New World: Scapegrace Single Malt aus Neuseeland
Exakt auf den Koordinaten 45.0194° S, 169.2153° E, am 45. Breitengrad, steht die Scapegrace Distillery. Der abgelegene Standort mit epischem Blick auf Mount Pisa und Lake Dunstan im Süden Neuseelands ist kein Zufall. Auf der Linie zwischen dem Äquator und dem Südpol profitiert das größte Brennereiprojekt des Landes hier von intensiven Sommern und eiskalten Wintern – Bedingungen, die für die besondere Reifung des Single Malts unerlässlich sind.
Lokale Gerste aus South Canterbury, frisches Gletscherwasser aus den Südalpen, Manuka-Holz zum Darren von Rauchmalz: Scapegrace lebt eine naturnahe „Grain-to-Glass“-Philosophie. Deren Ergebnis? Kräftige, unverfälschte New World Single Malt Whiskys mit einem Highland Malts ähnlichen Profil.
Zu den ersten Abfüllungen der Core Range zählt Scapegrace Anthem. Der Single Malt wird aus Gerstenmalz gebrannt, das über dem komplexen, nach Eukalyptus, Menthol und Waldboden duftenden Rauch des einheimischen Manuka-Baums trocknete. Er entfaltet Noten von gewürzten Walnüssen, Mostapfel und süßem Heu.
Etwas lieblicher fällt Scapegrace Vanguard aus, der von pochierten Birnen, Vanillepudding und Keksen aus Haferflocken und Kokosraspeln geprägt ist.
Mit Scapegrace Fortitudeaus Manuka-Rauchmalz und Scapegrace Fortuna sind zudem zwei Beispiele für die auslaufenden Limited Editions vertreten.
Bei Fortitude wird fündig, wer würzig-fruchtige Malt-Whiskys bevorzugt, während Fortuna buttrige Kekse mit knackigen grünen Äpfeln und gerösteten Kastanien verbindet.

Die von einem internationalen Konsortium errichtete Nine Rivers Distillery in China begleiten wir mit unseren Berichten bereits seit dem Spatenstich im Jahr 2022. Das Projekt schreitet voran, und den aktuellen Zustand der Baustelle hat man seitens der Nine Rivers Distillery mit einen neuen, knapp fünf Minuten langen kommentierten Drohnenvideo dokumentiert. Mittlerweile sind die Gebäude schon weit gediegen, und man sieht auch einiges vom Umland wie zum Beispiel den Platz, wo bald einmal zusätzliche Lagerhäuser entstehen sollen.
