Wie die Dal Riata Distillery über ihre Kanäle auf den Social-Media-Plattformen Facebook und Instagram kommuniziert, erteilte das Argyll & Bute Council die Genehmigung für den Bau der neuen Destillery am Ufer des Campbeltown Loch. Wie es auf den ersten Blick auszusehen scheint, bedurfte es keinerlei Änderungen an dem im letzten Jahr kommuniziertem Vorhaben:
Die Destillerie wird über eine Glasfassade verfügen, die einen Blick auf die beiden großen Kupferdestillierapparate ermöglicht. Ein erhöhter Balkon bietet einen Blick auf Campbeltown Loch und dient gleichzeitig als Veranstaltungs- und Verkostungsraum. Ein leerstehendes, an das Gelände angrenzende Geschäft wird zu einem Besucherzentrum sowie einem Konferenz- und Verkostungsraum umgebaut. Innerhalb des geplanten Brennereigebäudes wird Platz geschaffen, um eine Produktionserweiterung zu ermöglichen, ohne dass die bestehende Grundfläche vergrößert werden muss.
Mit einer Investition von 4,5 Millionen Pfund werden rund 20 Arbeitsplätze für rund Einheimische geschaffen. Zusätzlich hat sich die Brennereiverpflichtet, Praktikantenplätze für Menschen mit einem Interesse an einer Karriere in der Scotch-Whisky-Industrie bereitzustellen.
Der langfristige Plan für die Brennerei sieht den Bau eines Lagerhauses am Flughafen Machrihanish zur Lagerung von Fässern vor. Es ist vorgesehen, dass diese Anlage auch Abfüll- und Lagermöglichkeiten für Privatkunden umfassen wird.

Campbeltown is a special little place which is certainly on the up and we can’t wait to become a part of its bright future.“ As Campbeltown soars in popularity amongst tourists, Dal Riata’s owners seek to pay homage to the history of Campbeltown by incorporating a museum within the visitor centre dedicated to telling the story of the town’s long and proud association with whisky distillation.
The distillery will feature an impressive glass frontage enabling views of the two large copper stills as they distil whisky. A raised balcony will offer spectacular views of Campbeltown Loch, whilst acting as a premium event and tasting space. A vacant shop on Longrow that presently adjoins the site will be developed into a visitor centre and conference and tasting room. Space is being incorporated within the proposed distillery building to enable production expansion without any need to extend the existing footprint. The long-term plan for the distillery includes building a warehouse at Machrihanish Airport for cask storage. It is envisioned that this facility will also include bottling and storage facilities for private clients.“

Hochgenuss aus teils raren (Likör-)Weinfässern: Neuheiten von „Scotland’s Little Gem“
Whisky in seiner ursprünglichsten Form herstellen – das hat Edradour unter Scotch-Fans schon vor Jahren zur Legende gemacht. Als eine von wenigen Brennereien in Schottland produzierte sie bis 2018 ihren Single Malt ausschließlich in den alten Farmgebäuden, teils mit Geräten, die mehr als 100 Jahre auf dem Kerbholz haben. Und die so sonst kaum mehr beim Whiskymachen im Einsatz sind. Letzteres hat sich auch nach der abgeschlossenen Erweiterung um Edradour II nicht geändert.
Ihren Lieblingsstatus festigt die Highland-Brennerei nun mit sechs neuen Edradour- und Ballechin-Abfüllungen– allesamt aus Likörwein- und Weinfässern.
Mit dunkelfruchtigen und nussigen Tönen veredeln Oloroso Sherry Butts Edradour Single Malt. Der fassstarke Edradour 12 y.o. Oloroso Sherry Butts (Batch #2) reifte ausschließlich in den First und Second Fill Fässern aus Andalusien, der Edradour 21 y.o. wurde in ihnen gefinisht. Für die gesamte Reifezeit des Edradour 12 y.o. Barbaresco Casks zog man seltene Hogsheads heran, vorbelegt mit dem herkunftsgeschützten Rotwein aus dem Piemont.
Unter der Marke Ballechin füllt „Sotland’s Little Gem“ ihre torfigsten Single Malts ab, gebrannt aus Malz mit mindestens 50 ppm Rauchanteil. Rauch, intensive Frucht und zarte Süße verbinden sich nach 17 Jahren reiner Weinfassreifung im Ballechin 17 y.o. Burgundy Casks. Auch der Ballechin 19 y.o. Madeira Casks reifte ausschließlich in einem Fasstyp: Mit Madeira vorbelegte Puncheons verleihen ihm Würze und Süße. Der fast gleichaltrige Ballechin 19 y.o. Manzanilla Sherry Casks lagerte in raren Fässern. Manzanilla Sherry ist trocken, mit oft mineralischen Noten, und wird nur in Sanlúcar de Barrameda hergestellt.

Der neue Blended Malt Whisky Penderyn Patagonia – die No. 11 der Serie Icons of Wales – ist eine Zusammenarbeit der walisischen Penderyn Distillery und der patagonischen La Alazana Distillery, und würdigt das walisische Erbe im Süden Argentiniens.
Denn im Süden Argentiniens existiert eine recht große walisische Gemeinde. In der Provinz Chubut leben etwa 5.000 walisischsprachige Argentinier, im ganzen Land sollen es gar 25.000 sein. Ihre Wurzeln gehen (wenigstens zum Teil) zurück auf die 153 walisischen Einwanderer, die am 28. Juli 1865 in Argentinien ankamen und hier ihr neues Leben begannen. Die Nachfahren der walisischen Einwanderer konnten ihre kulturellen Wurzeln pflegen und bewahren, so lud die walisischsprachige Gemeinschaft in Chubut Ende März 2022 Professor Brian Morgan ein. Morgan, einer der Gründer und erster Vorsitzender von Penderyn Whiskey, hielt dort einen Vortrag über die Marke Penderyn. Und er traf sich mit den Eigentümern der La Alazana Distillery, die 600 km aus den Anden entfernt angereist waren, um für die Verkostung eine größere Auswahl an Single Malt Whiskys anzubieten. Daraus entstanden ist dann Penderyn Patagonia, ein Blended Malt Whisky in Zusammenarbeit mit der La Alazana Distillery (von der übrigens zur Zeit zwei Fässer in der Antarktis reifen).
Penderyn Patagonia wird für £65 (das wären etwa 75 €) im Vereinigten Königreich ab dem 15. September erhältlich sein. Nach seiner dortigen Veröffentlichung wird die Abfüllung die internationalen Märkte erreichen.

Penderyn Patagonia stands as a testament to the enduring bond between Wales and its Welsh descendants in Patagonia, Argentina – 8,000 miles away from Wales. This remarkable blend is achieved by marrying Penderyn’s own single malt with that of La Alazana Distillery, an innovative collaboration that bridges the gap between two distant lands united by history and shared values.
On July 28th, 1865, 153 intrepid individuals embarked on the historic Mimosa voyage, bound for Patagonia with dreams of establishing a Welsh colony that would preserve their language, culture, and way of life. Their vision, although met with the unexpected harshness of the Patagonian desert, persevered. Miners dug irrigation trenches, settlers engaged in trade with the local Tehuelche people, and a thriving community emerged. Today, Patagonia stands as a testament to the spirit of these pioneers, boasting 50,000 Welsh descendants, 5,000 Welsh speakers, and annual Eisteddfodau celebrations that honour their heritage.
At the end of March 2022, Professor Brian Morgan, one of the Founders and the First Chairman of Penderyn Whisky visited Welsh Patagonia following an invitation to give a talk on the Penderyn brand to the Welsh speaking community in the Chubut region. He met with the La Alazana distillery owners, who travelled 600 kms from their distillery in the Andes to provide a wider range of single malt whiskies for the tasting.
Penderyn Patagonia boasts a symphony of flavours that evoke the sweet nostalgia of Welsh orchards and the rich tapestry of Patagonian landscapes.
The tasting experience is an exploration of contrasts:
Nose: Delicate and enchanting, the whisky opens with sweet and floral notes. Hints of orchard fruits, including crisp green apples and succulent pears, mingle with a gentle essence of vanilla, honey, and caramel.
Palate: A harmonious blend of flavours graces the palate. Subtle, yet rich, the palate introduces a sweet symphony of honey, the allure of apple tart, and the succulence of juicy pears. These flavours are gracefully accompanied by the embrace of vanilla and delicate oaky undertones. A chorus of spices dances upon the tongue—cinnamon, peppers, and a whisper of cloves—interwoven with almonds and creamy toffee.
Finish: The grand finale leaves a lasting impression of dried fruits mingling with a gentle caress of sweet spice. The whisky’s resonant character lingers, inviting you to savour the intricate layers of flavour long after the last sip.

Zweite erfolgreiche Hausmesse von Kirsch Import im Bremer Stadion am Osterdeich
Stuhr, 14.09.2023 Kirsch Import ist seit 47 Jahren unweit von Bremen zu Hause. Zu den Wahrzeichen der Hansestadt gehört seit jeher das imposante Stadion. Dort veranstaltete das Familienunternehmen am 10. und 11. September mit seiner eigenen Hausmesse zum zweiten Mal ein erfolgreiches Heimspiel der besonderen Art.
52 Spirituosenmarken und -hersteller aus der ganzen Welt hatten am 10. und 11. September im VIP-Bereich des Bremer Wohninvest Weserstadions eine Verabredung mit über 800 Kunden aus dem Handel und der Gastronomie. Kirsch Import, seit fast einem halben Jahrhundert fest am Markt als Importeur und Distributor etabliert, hatte zum zweiten Mal zu seiner Hausmesse geladen.
Nachdem der erste Anstoß im Vorjahr mit knapp der Hälfte an Markenständen hervorragend bei den Kunden angekommen war, hatte sich das niedersächsische Familienunternehmen aus dem unweit gelegenen Stuhr diesjährig dazu entschieden, in die Verlängerung zu gehen.
Bei hochsommerlichen Temperaturen übertraf das Aufgebot an Spirituosen den Anblick des perfekt gepflegten Fußballrasens. An den 52 Ausstellern trafen die Fachbesucher Repräsentanten der Marken, konnten sich aus erster Hand informieren, Produkte verkosten und optional direkt ihre Order platzieren.
Zahlreiche neue Tropfen wurden dabei ebenso vorgestellt wie manche Rarität, so zum Beispiel The GlenAllachie 30 y.o., der Beenleigh 2013/2023 von Velier oder der Speymalt from Macallan Distillery 2001/2022, die exklusiv auf der Hausmesse für Kirsch-Kunden bestellbar waren.
Christoph Kirsch, Firmeninhaber und Geschäftsführer in zweiter Generation, freut sich über die gelungene Veranstaltung:
„Nachdem unseren Kunden im letzten Jahr unsere damals kleine Veranstaltung im Stadion so gut gefallen hat, haben wir dieses Jahr deutlich mehr Gas gegeben. Ich bin sehr stolz auf mein Team, ohne das dieser Erfolg nicht denkbar ist. Wir blicken mit großer Zufriedenheit auf die diesjährige Hausmesse zurück und werden bestimmt auch nächstes Jahr wieder dazu anpfeifen. Ich freue mich schon darauf.“

Das schottische Whiskyunternehmen Whyte & Mackay, zu dem unter anderem die Malt-Brennereien The Dalmore und Fettercairn gehören, ernennt Kirstie McCallum zur zweiten master whisky maker. Nun wird sie mit Gregg Glass, der ebenfalls den Titel master whisky maker trägt, zusammen am Portfolio schottischer Whiskys des Unternehmens arbeiten.
McCallum, eine ausgebildete Chemikerin, weist mehr als 20 Jahre Berufserfahrung in der Whisky-Industrie auf. So war sie unter anderem Lead Blender bei Scottish Leader, Master Blender bei Distell International (Eigentümer der Destillerien Tobermory, Deanston und Bunnahabhain) und zuletzt Direktorin der Destillerien beim internationalen Spirituosenunternehmen Halewood. Für ihre neue Position wünschen wir Ihr alles Gute und viel Erfolg.
Ian Macleod Distillers hat in dieser die Einführung die neueste Ausgabe des Cigar Malt seiner Tamdhu Distillery angekündigt. Für Tamdhu Cigar Malt III hat die in der Speyside ansässige Brennerei nach dem bewährten Konzept der vorherigen Batches gearbeitet. Ausgewählt wurde die Abfüllung ausschließlich Malt Whisky, der in erstbefüllten Oloroso-Sherryfässern aus europäischer Eiche reifte. Jedes Fass wurde sorgfältig ausgewählt, um sicherzustellen, dass das Holz einen auffallend robusten Charakter hat, der der Opulenz einer Premium-Zigarre gerecht wird, heißt es in der Presseinfo auf The whisky business.
Tamdhu Cigar Malt III ist mit 53,8 % Vol. abgefüllt und wird noch in diesem Monat mit einer UVP von £225 (das wären etwa 260 €) im Fachhandel erhältlich sein.

Nach der Summer Edition vom Hamburg Malt Whisky startet die Abfüllung der diesjährigen Winteredition bereits Anfang November.
Die Winteredition reifte 8 Jahre im Cream Sherry Fass von Delgado Zuleta. (Marco Lehmitz hatte vor einigen Jahren bereits eine Single Cask Abfüllung aus dem Pedro Ximenez Sherry Fass vom Hamburg Malt Whisky abgefüllt). Wer bei dieser Abfüllung mit dabei sein möchte: Inhaber Marco Lehmitz bietet in diesem Jahr einigen Teilnehmern die Möglichkeit, auch live bei der Abfüllung dabei zu sein.
Die Abfüllung erfolgt im kleinen Kreis am 03.11.2023, ungefähr 8 Teilnehmer haben dann die Ehre, ihre Flasche auch selbst aus dem Fass abzufüllen: Natürlich ist dann eine gründliche Reifekellerführung in der historischen Speicherstadt mit inklusive.
Als Grunddestillat dient wieder die Speyside, die mit einem attraktiven Alter von 8 Jahren im Sherry Fass einiges an Aromen aufgenommen hat. Diese Abfüllung vom Hamburg Malt Whisky wird wieder nur auf Vorbestellung gefüllt. Man kann sich also auf eine streng limitierte Abfüllung freuen, insofern man vorbestellt hat. Was uns die Aktion mit der Live „dabei“ Abfüllung eröffnet: Es wird wieder eine unfiltrierte Abfüllung in Originalfassstärke geben, dieses Mal in zwei verschiedenen Flaschengrößen (0,50l & 0,20l).
Schottlands älteste lizenzierte Brennerei Littlemill, gegründet 1772 in Bowling, West Dunbartonshire, stellt ihre neueste Veröffentlichung vor: The Vanguard Collection – Chapter One, einen 45 Jahre alten Whisky, der aus den ältesten und seltensten Beständen der Lowland-Brennerei stammt, die 1994 stillgelegt wurde.
Der Malt wurde am 11. Oktober 1977 am ursprünglichen Standort destilliert und reifte in refill American Oak casks. Die letzten fünf Jahre verbrachte der Whisky in einem erstbefüllten Oloroso Sherry Hogshead. Abgefüllt in Fassstärke von 50,5 % Vol. und natürlicher Farbe sind weltweit nur 250 einzeln nummerierte Flaschen zum Preis von £12,500 (etwa 14.500 €) erhältlich.

Scotland’s oldest licensed distillery, Littlemill, has unveiled its latest annual release, The Vanguard Collection – Chapter One, an incredible 45 Year Old whisky drawn from the oldest and rarest reserves of the extraordinary Lowland distillery, which fell into silence in 1994.
The release was distilled on the 11th of October 1977 at the original site in Bowling, West Dunbartonshire, using Littlemill’s patented straight-neck copper pot hybrid stills, which were first introduced in the early 1900s, an innovation of their time then and today.
The liquid was stored in refill American Oak casks before a final five-year finish in a first-fill Oloroso Sherry Hogshead. The result is a wonderful single malt boasting honey, elderflower, and nutmeg on the nose, with a silk-like mouthfeel of melted brown sugar, vanilla, and fresh fruits, before a long finish full of citrus flavour and caramelised sugars.
This traditional choice of finishing wood, personally selected by Master Blender Michael Henry, is meticulously documented in the distillery’s records and complements the delicate floral nature of this Lowland malt.
Bottled at cask strength of 50.5% ABV and natural colour, only 250 individually numbered bottles are available worldwide, priced at £12,500.
Vanguard Chapter One is the first of four new expressions in The Vanguard Collection, which will be released annually, each partnering with a global artist to pay homage to the trailblazers who shaped Littlemill’s story by overturning traditions, innovating with technology and processes, and leaving an undeniable legacy.
The first expression is dedicated to Robert Muir who was granted the first license to ‘retail beer, ale, and excisable liquors’ from King Geoge III in 1773. It is potentially the first time whisky distilling was officiated and was certainly the beginning of a remarkable story in the world’s whisky industry.
This moment will be remembered through a new collaboration with British artist, illustrator, and wordsmith, Vic Lee, who has been transcending the art world for the last ten years with his iconic and intricate approach to penmanship. Vic has worked with some of the UK’s most loved and forward-thinking brands, including McLaren automotive, Nike, Atkin Guitars, Brompton Bikes, and The Tate Modern.
Using traditional screen printing, Vic has created 250 cotton paper artworks which reimagine the original license through contemporary illustrations including Littlemill’s original stills and warehousing, and the trade ships on the River Clyde in Scotland, nodding to the bustling international exporting of the time.
Printed on beautiful off-white cotton paper, the bespoke artwork, hand finished in Indian grey ink for individuality, will be encased in a stunning handmade ash display cabinet, handcrafted by Littlemill’s most trusted carpenters and woodworkers.
Inside is an exquisite handblown Glencairn crystal decanter with delicate cuts in the glass, inspired by a traditional writing quill which would have been used by Robert Muir to sign the original license. A glass portal in the cabinet door provides a window through time to Vic Lee’s hand-finished artwork, each individually hand signed and numbered by Vic and Master Blender, Michael Henry
Each cabinet also houses a branded 50ml miniature and a hardback book of the Littlemill story, so the very few lucky custodians of this exceptional single malt can explore and enjoy Scotland’s most fascinating whisky tale with an exquisite dram.
Founded in 1772 in Bowling, West Dunbartonshire, Littlemill was at the forefront of innovation for its time. It was lost to a fire in 2004 and since then, Master Blender, Michael Henry, has held guardianship of the last remaining rare casks, drawing on the limited reserves for the first Vanguard Collection release.

Much like Littlemill itself, these individuals passed into history before their contribution could ever be applauded, but their influence lives on in these last precious casks, which I am lucky enough to have under my personal care and custodianship.
“This creation of the first in The Vanguard Collection has been a fascinating process, as we have gone back to explore again the wonderful history of this intriguing whisky distillery. Robert Muir is a pioneer of his time, and this latest release is a celebration of that.
“Quite unlike anything else, Littlemill is a beautiful summer whisky, with characteristics of gentle vanilla and floral notes on the nose, with the sweetness of honey and creamy fudge, accompanied on the palate by classic Lowland fresh fruits. It’s a unique and special character, which we work hard to preserve without compromise.”

“Working closely with Michael and the team, we sought to create something bespoke and unique that could accompany each exclusive bottle. The artwork had to respect the original license from 1773, and through a detailed and time-consuming approach, I drew upon historic penmanship and printing methods, while applying my own contemporary feel.
“There is so much beauty in works and letters; they can incite so much emotion and understanding of a period of time, which was exactly what was required for this remarkable Littlemill launch.”

Nose: Honey, elderflower, pineapple, kiwi, roasted hazelnuts, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Palate: Silk like mouthfeel, melted brown sugar, vanilla, crème brûlée, crisp apple, ripe pear, freshly squeezed lime juice, dried fruit – sultana and citrus peel.
Finish: Long with notes of grilled grapefruit and sweet caramelised sugars, all balanced with sharp citrus.

International Beverage acquires New Zealand’s Cardrona Distillery
Global drinks business International Beverage has today (13th September) announced its acquisition of Cardrona Distillery, one of New Zealand’s pioneering premium spirits producers.
The acquisition includes the Cardrona Distillery and visitor centre near Wanaka in New Zealand’s Crown Range Mountains; plus Cardrona’s portfolio of super-premium brands including Cardrona single malt whisky, The Reid Vodka, The Source Gin and the Rose Rabbit liqueurs.
Following the company’s recent acquisition of the Larsen Cognac business, this deal will give International Beverage a foothold in the dynamic New World spirits category, to complement its established and highly successful Scotch whisky and spirits brands which include Old Pulteney, Speyburn and Caorunn Gin. Desiree Reid, who founded Cardrona Distillery in 2015, will remain as Managing Director.
Cardrona is celebrated as one of New Zealand’s most innovative craft spirits producers. Its spirits are produced from grain to glass at the site and have earned multiple accolades since launch, including category wins over 4 consecutive years at the World Whiskies Awards.
International Beverage will focus on investment in the purpose-built distillery site and maximising the potential of Cardrona’s brands in the core New Zealand, UK and USA markets. They will also deploy International Beverage’s global network to build select new routes to market.

Douglas Laing Unveils Seasonal Limited Editions: Big Peat Christmas and Scallywag Winter
Douglas Laing adds two seasonal special editions to a long line of festive bottlings within their Islay and Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky brands: Big Peat and Scallywag. Big Peat’s Christmas Edition is the first ever to be finished in Sherry Casks, truly encapsulating the flavour of Christmas. Scallywag’s Winter Edition remains true to self with 100% Sherry Cask maturation from the finest Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso Sherry butts.
Scallywag’s 4th addition to the Annual Winter Series sees a remarkably rich and robust marriage of Speyside Single Malts, and is said to “deliver warm gingerbread, spiced oak, and orange rind on the nose.” The palate reveals layers of cocoa and juicy berries with a nutty Malt style. Hand-selected from some of the finest distilleries in Scotland, including legendary Brora and Port Ellen, Prima & Ultima gives collectors and connoisseurs the opportunity to build an expertly curated liquid library of magnificent whiskies over time. This fourth release comprises eight remarkable bottlings; the oldest ever whisky to come from Talisker Distillery, the forgotten last casks from The Singleton of Dufftown in 1985 and the last ever 1997 Lagavulin.
Each whisky from the collection holds a story of a first and a last of its kind. The collection presents the chance to build one of the rarest and most exceptional liquid libraries in the world, capturing the ever unfolding story of Scotch. Including pioneering experiments and the dwindling remains from long lost ghost distilleries, the whiskies in this collection can never again be experienced by the world.
Revealed to a select group of guests at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, the fourth edition in the series sees eight incredibly rare and precious vintage cask strength Single Malt Scotch Whiskies personally selected by Master Blender Dr Emma Walker. Celebrated as a true master of malt, Dr Emma Walker has spent a luminous career at the forefront of Diageo’s finest work in whisky. Her first hand experience of these liquid legends truly comes to life in this vivid and personal selection of Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
With Emma’s heightened knowledge of Single Malts she takes up the mantle from its three previous curators, Dr Craig Wilson, Maureen Robinson and Dr Jim Beveridge OBE, each individual highly respected within the industry with over a century of experience between them.

Each of these whiskies have been watched, influenced and marked asoutstanding. Hand picked for their outstanding quality and character, the fourth release includes the oldest whisky ever to be bottled from Talisker Distillery – a Talisker 46-Year-Old, an experimental Single Malt from Clynelish, and a Lagavulin heralding from 1997, known as a golden year for the Islay distillery. This Prima & Ultima release also features the debut of Oban Distillery to the collection with its very last casks from 1996, chosen for its unique coastal character, uncharacteristic of the distillery.
Exceptionally rare whiskies from the reawakened ghost distilleries Brora and Port Ellen have been carefully curated by Dr Emma Walker, with the last ever 1977 American oak hogsheads from Brora Distillery and the final 1978 American oak hogsheads from Port Ellen joining the collection.
On the evening of the launch for this new release, a select group of guests have been invited to taste the whiskies, alongside an exceptional collection of other firsts and lasts. Guests have been hosted amongst some of the rarest books at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, one of the oldest institutional fine arts libraries in the world. These include the Ruins Of The Palace Of The Emperor Diocletian At Spalatro In Dalmatia, the first book to be donated to the library in 11th January 1769 by the architect Robert Adam just one month after the RA was founded, and the David Hockney: a bigger book, the last to be added to the collection.

Clynelish 1996

A first and last of the kind, these two experimental Pedro Ximenez/Oloroso Casks seasoned European Oak butts provide a new rich sweetness and darkness to this one of a kind Clynelish. Filled in 1996 this maturation has brought a more powerful taste to Clynelish’s crisp charm and is a tribute to those unafraid to plough into a new furrow.
Lagavulin 1997
25-Year-Old | 50.7%ABV Bottled: 25th February 2022 | Refill American Oak Number Bottled: 625 | Port Ellen, Isle of Islay
The final memory of a golden year at the distillery, 1997, when third generation distillery manager Mike Nicolson was custodian of the Lagavulin legacy. This is Lagavulin as it should be, mature, rich and in its pomp, a beautifully rounded example of the power and majesty of this Islay malt.
Pittyvaich 1992
30-Year-Old | 55.5%ABV Bottled: 20th February 2022 | Experimental Pedro Ximenez/Oloroso-seasoned European Oak Number Bottled: 609 | Dufftown, Speyside
Selected as the ultimate example of this little known malt, these are the last ever Pedro Ximénez/Oloroso butts from 1992 and the last of the distillery’s younger liquid as it closed the following year. Standing as Pittyvaich’s last ever 30-Year-Old whisky, the richness of character, fruity-spicy aromas and depth of taste make this a very special Single Malt.
Oban 1996
26-Year-Old | 55.2%ABV Bottled: 19th July 2022 | European Oak Number Bottled: 428 | Oban, Highlands
The very last 1996 Oban is highly unusual yet delicious with a firmer backbone than is usual for this distillery. Rarely seen at Oban, the refill European oak delivers a distinctively dry maritime slant to both aroma and taste and hosts a lively peppery spiciness. A first appearance for Oban to Prima & Ultima, this bottling comes at a time when the distillery had won the highly competitive Managers Dram competition a record three times.
Port Ellen 1978

This vanishingly rare example of an exceptional Port Ellen, richly expressive after forty-three years, comes from the last four precious American Oak Hogsheads from 1978. Created by and tended to by Iain MacArthur, who filled the last cask at Port Ellen in 1983, this rare malt established the character of the distillery celebrated by connoisseurs to this day.
The Singleton of Dufftown 1985
37-Year-Old | 47.7%ABV Bottled: 21st January 2022 | American Oak, Hogshead Number Bottled: 511 | Dufftown, Speyside
Casks which would have otherwise been used as part of a blend were rediscovered during the acquisition of a warehouse. The result is a thirty seven year old masterpiece from the last The Singleton of Dufftown 1985 casks. Slow crafting is the key to The Singleton depth of flavour and this elegant expression is no exception, with a fruity nose and lightly oily smooth texture formed by patient years in cask.
Talisker 1976

In 1976 Scotland basked in a once in a lifetime heatwave which made the stills run hot, increasing copper contact, creating this highly unusual Talisker. Standing as the oldest-ever release from Talisker, this forty six year old whisky was rested in a single puncheon gaining further complexity to this exceptionally rare malt.

Alambic Classique mit zwei Abfüllungen zur Whiskyfair in Bad Homburg
Wir, das Team von Alambic Classique, arbeiten seit 1981 als Importeur und Großhändler für Spirituosenspezialitäten hier in Deutschland. Geführt wird das Team von mir, mein Name ist Hermann Suppanz. Neben Cognacs, Calvados und Armagnacs aus Frankreich führen wir auch unter dem Namen „The Alambic Classique Whisky Collection“ eine kleine Anzahl von ausgesuchten Whiskyabfüllungen die wir exklusiv über den Fachhandel vertreiben. Selbstverständlich sind unsere erstklassigen Whiskys nicht gefärbt oder filtriert. Sie kommen immer direkt vom Fass und werden in Fassstärke, unverdünnt, und für volles Aroma und Genuss abgefüllt. Sie werden sicher begeistert sein von unseren Whiskys.
Zur diesjährigen Whiskyfair in Bad Homburg bringen wir zwei neue interessante Bottlings mit, die dort natürlich auch verkostet werden können. Danach sind die Abfüllungen im Fachhandel erhältlich.
Irish DiamondsBatch No. 12 „Ex Sherry Cask “ Jahrgang 2002, 21 years old Irish Single Malt Whiskey 0,7 L. GP. 56,4% Vol.
Aroma: Zunächst etwas pfeffrig, dann gehen die Aromen schnell in getrocknete Aprikosen und gebrannte Nüsse über. Die Süße von Crème brûlée umschmeichelt die Nase mit einer deutlichen Note von karamellisiertem Zucker. Danach folgen Quitte und frische Kräuter. Die Aromen sind schwer und man fühlt sich in ein Dunnage Warehouse versetzt bevor wieder eine Süße durchdringt, die an Pralinen mit Nüssen erinnert. Nach einiger Zeit werden die holzigen und etwas harzigen Noten kräftiger. Man meint, eine leichte Rauchnote wahrzunehmen, bevor der Duft von Orangenöl die Nase umfängt.
Geschmack: Der Whisky fühlt sich breit und kräftig im Mund an. Eichenwürze gepaart mit gebranntem Karamell, Quittengelee und Sahnebonbons, dann eingelegte Früchte und die schokoladige Bitterkeit von Mokka. Später füllen Tabaknoten den Mundraum, die Eichenwürze und die leichten Bitterstoffe bleiben präsent. Wieder scheint eine leichte Rauchnote im Hintergrund mitzuschwingen. Nach einer Weile explodierten die Aromen mächtig. Salziges Porridge, dunkle Kaffeesahneschokolade und Cashewnüsse gehen in eine feurige Chilischärfe und etwas Zimt über. Im Abgang klingt der Whiskey lang und intensiv aus. Kräftiges Karamell, alkoholgetränktes altes Holz, aromatisches Baumharz und Nussaromen mischen sich mit dunkler Schokolade und Chiliflocken.
Der Batch No.12 ist ein sehr interessanter und vielschichtiger Whiskey von der grünen Insel. Er ist deutlich intensiver als man es in dem Alter erwarten würde.
Cambus (seit 1993 geschlossen) „Ex Sherry Cask” Jahrgang 1989, 34 years old Lowland Single Cask Grain Whisky 0,7L. und 0,05 L. GP. 58,9% Vol.
Aroma: Frische Kräuter und Stachelbeermarmelade mit Baiser Stückchen. Zunächst sehr pfeffrig und etwas Paprikaschärfe, dann dringen Tabakblätter und süßer schwarzer Tee durch. Die Süße ist schwer und durchdringend mit deutlichen Sherry Noten.
Geschmack: Explosiv pfeffrig mit kräftiger Süße, Toffee und Vanilleschote. Brauner Zucker, vermischt mit Johannisbeermarmelade, ein Hauch Pflaume und etwas Wachs. Intensive Gewürzmischung, getrockneter schwarzer Tee, dragierte Erdnüsse und deutliche Eichenwürze mit Holunderblütengelee. Im Abgang ist dieser alte Grain mittellang und trocken ausklingend, mit etwas Karamell und feinen cremigen Noten.
Der ausdrucksstarke Single Cask Whisky erinnert an das Stöbern in einem Gewürzregal, in dem man sich verlieren kann.
Waterford Distillery hat die am stärksten getorften Whiskys Irlands aller Zeiten abgefüllt: Peated: Lacken und Peated: Woodbrook. Die neuen Single Malt Whiskys wurden aus Gerste hergestellt, die auf den beiden Single Farm Origins, Lacken in der Grafschaft Wexford und Woodbrook in der Grafschaft Dublin, angebaut wurde. Für das Darren der Gerste setzte die Mälzerei irischen Torf ein, für einen Phenol-Anteil pro Million von 57 ppm bei Lacken bzw. 74 ppm bei Woodbrook.
Die beiden Abfüllungen erscheinen innerhalb der Reihe Arcadian Farm Origins und ergänzen hier Peated: Fenniscourt und Peated: Ballybannon, die im August letzten Jahres auf den Markt kamen (wir berichteten). Wie bei anderen Veröffentlichungen der Waterford Distillery bietet auch hier ein TÉIREOIR-CODE auf jeder Flasche eine Validierung und Verifizierung des individuellen Weges von der Gerste bis zur Flasche – geerntet, gelagert, gemälzt, destilliert und gereift. Jedes Detail des Whiskys wird offen dargelegt.
Peated: Lacken und Peated: Woodbrook erscheinen mit einer UVP von ca. 95 € / £90, der Preis kann je nach Standort unterschiedlich sein. Waterford Distillery has bottled Ireland’s most heavily-peated whiskies of all time: Peated: Lacken and Peated: Woodbrook
The bottlings form the latest additions to the distillery’s Arcadian Farm Origins, which revel in the old ways of whisky production, and follow the first Irish-peated whiskies experienced for generations
By combining 100% Irish barley with purely Irish peat, both whiskies display unique flavour profiles
13th September 2023: Waterford Distillery, producer of naturally flavoursome single malts, has today announced the launch of Peated: Lacken and Peated: Woodbrook, the most heavily-peated Irish whiskies of all time.
Made from barley grown on two distinct Single Farm Origins, Lacken in Co. Wexford and Woodbrook in Co. Dublin, the new single malt whiskies use the old ways of whisky production of Irish peat to impart more unique flavours, at a phenol parts per million (PPM) rate of 57ppm and 74ppm respectively. This makes them the most heavily-peated Irish whiskies ever produced.
The two new bottlings are the latest additions to Waterford Distillery’s Arcadian Farm Origins series, joining Peated: Fenniscourt and Peated: Ballybannon, which were released in August last year, and were the first in generations to use real Irish peat in whisky production. The series also includes the world’s first Biodynamic whisky, and Ireland’s only Organic whisky.
By harvesting barley from Lacken and Woodbrook farms, and combining it with Irish peat from the ultra-deep inland of Ballyteige Co. in Kildare, Waterford Distillery has produced whiskies with rich, distinct, and complex flavours, each displaying the nuances of their respective terroir-derived flavours.
As with other Waterford Distillery releases, a unique TÉIREOIR CODE on each bottle provides unprecedented validation and verification of its individual journey from barley to bottle – harvested, stored, malted, distilled and matured. Every meaningful detail of the whisky is offered openly.

“Our ongoing exploration into the old ways of whisky-making have taken us, once again, to forgotten flavours: Irish peat, the original taste of Irish whisky. Having demonstrated the unique flavours from our first peated Single Farm Origins, and that terroir trumps peat, we decided to dial up the smoke.
“This new brace of Single Farm Origins – using Irish peat and Irish barley – have been peated to levels higher than most of the famous Islay whiskies, and certainly the most for an Irish whisky. And guess what? Those terroir flavours are still distinct and still apparent.”

Peated: Lacken
Appearance: Virgin olive oil with tears to match.
Nose: High-toned, vibrant, fresh smoke-on-the-breeze-on-a-spring-morning style of peat. A coastal walk; brine, oyster shells, barley sugar and orchard fruits: soft apples and pear skins. A little warm hay too as it opens in the glass.
Taste: Full-bodied, oily, unctuous. Grist, driftwood, campfire and creosote. Sheepswool and Lapsang Souchong tea. Juiciness comes in the form of white peach and apple sauce.
Finish: Complex cigar tobaccos, green tea and tar.
Peated: Woodbrook
Appearance: Pale straw with oils that are in no hurry.
Nose: Lemon skins, beeswax and recently-extinguished candles. Freshly-torched crème brûlée. Very fresh, with meadow flowers and hemp alongside a light, complex touch of medicine cupboard.
Taste: Dry spices, dry rub and shortbread biscuit. The ashes of a beach campfire. Preserved lemons and Lapsang Souchong tea. Very citrusy – lemon oils and thick-cut lime marmalade.
Finish: Long with more of the spices and comforting bonfire tones emerging.
