Tel Aviv – October 6, 2022: M&H Distillery, Israel’s award-winning whisky distillery, announces the official launch of the “Art&Craft” single malt whisky series, the distillery’s new signature limited editions of forward-thinking whiskies, available now in Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium.
The first collection of the “Art&Craft” series presents six single malt whiskies matured in ex-beer casks: DoppelBock Beer Cask, Barely Wine Cask, Stout Beer Cask, Belgian Ale Beer Cask, Chocolate Porter Beer Cask and ex-Islay IPA cask.
The “Art&Craft” series reinforces M&H Distillery’s continued commitment to experimentation and innovation without compromising craftsmanship and tradition. Matured in the unique Mediterranean climate at the Tel Aviv-based distillery and crafted by Head Distiller Tomer Goren, the “Art&Craft” series showcases M&H Distillery’s ongoing research and forward-thinking innovation with unusual casks complemented by Israel’s rich terroir.
Tomer Goren, M&H Distillery’s head distiller, explains, „As a Tel Aviv-based craft distillery, we are constantly thinking about how we can bring new bold and unique concepts to the table; our philosophy is to think outside the box. Four years ago, we approached six different local breweries, and together with the brewmaster at each brewery, we selected beers to mature in our whiskey casks. Each beer has a distinct scent and flavor, and each limited edition of whisky aged in various ex-beer casks is one-of-a-kind. The second Art&Craft collection will focus on chosen local Israeli wineries that we worship, will be released in Spring 2023 and you will be able to taste whisky matured in ex-Israeli wine casks. Chocolate Porter Beer Cask and ex-Islay IPA cask are the two editions to hit the shelves in the German market.
Chocolate Porter Beer Cask is a single malt whisky that was fully matured in three ex-beer casks from the Israeli Shapiro Brewery located in the German colony neighborhood in Jerusalem. These originally ex-bourbon casks that were used to mature the M&H spirit, granted to Shapiro and in-turn used for the maturation of the Shapiro Chocolate Stout Beer, which is characterized by powerful notes of dark chocolate, coffee, caramel and toasted oak. After 6 months, the beer was extracted and bottled, and the casks returned to M&H, re-filled and matured to perfection for 4 years.
Ex-Islay IPA Beer Cask is a single malt whisky that has been fully aged in three ex-beer casks from Israel’s renowned Dictator Beer Company. These casks, which were originally ex-Islay casks granted to Dictator by M&H, were then used to mature the Dictator Peated IPA, the brand’s very final edition, which is distinguished by apparent peat, aromatic, bitter, and citric hops aromas. The beer was extracted after 4-6 months, and the casks were returned to M&H, re-filled, and aged to perfection for 3 years.
Retail price for the Chocolate Porter Beer Cask and the ex-Islay IPA Beer Cask is 75 euros. M&H Distillery’s spirits are distributed in Germany by Kammer-Kirsch.

Nachdem House of Hazelwood seine Eröffnungskollektion im Mai dieses Jahres veröffentlichte (wir berichteten), präsentiert man nun bereits die neue Herbstkollektion. House of Hazelwood, das ist eine einst private Sammlung der Familie Gordon, Besitzer des Unternehmens William Grant & Sons. Diese setzt sich zusammen aus Fässern, die seit fast 100 Jahren zusammengestellt wurden, und eigentlich für spezielle Ereignisse und den Privatverbrauch vorgesehen waren.
Wie bei der Eröffnungskollektion, werden acht Whiskys in zwei Sortimenten veröffentlicht: The Charles Gordon Collection und The Legacy Collection. Die Sammlung, so die Pressemitteilung, reicht von The Lowlander, einer ungewöhnlichen 36-jährigen Veröffentlichung mit einerm UVP von £950, bis hin zu „A Singular Blend“ mit einem Alter von 58 Jahren und mit einem UVP von £4.900.

Rare 1963 single distillery release – A Singular Blend – leads the collection, showcasing provenance never before seen at this age
Following the sell-out within weeks of their inaugural ‘First Drop’ release, House of Hazelwood today unveils its much-anticipated Autumn Collection of eight rare and old Scotch whiskies. Hand-selected from the once-private collection of the Gordon family, the release contains some of the most sought-after and remarkable Scotch whiskies in the world.
The rarest within the collection, with just 74 bottles available worldwide, is the aptly named 1963 release – ‘A Singular Blend’. This remarkable single distillery blend comprises grain and malt components distilled within the very same Highland distillery in the same year of production, 58 years ago. A Scotch whisky of such provenance has never before been offered for sale at this age.
House of Hazelwood launched its inaugural collection in May this year, with the ambition to open the doors to the diverse range of rare, aged and storytelling whiskies laid down by the Gordon family over the last hundred years, none of which can ever be repeated.
Describing the Autumn Collection, which is now exclusively available to pre-order online, House of Hazelwood Marketing Director Jonathan Gibson, said: ‘Our Autumn Collection speaks not only to the breadth and depth of the inventory that we are privileged to work with but also to the character of those family-members who built the stocks over the course of generations. These are truly remarkable liquids; the consequence of remarkable thinking, of brave decision-making and the luxury of time that private family ownership brings. No whisky exemplifies this more than A Singular Blend – a rare composition, unheard of at this age with a truly outstanding character that makes it at once a joy to drink and a treasure to collect.’
As with the inaugural collection, eight whiskies have been released across two ranges: The Charles Gordon Collection and The Legacy Collection. The collection ranges from The Lowlander, an unusual 36-year-old release at £950 RRSP bringing together mature spirit from across a number of Scotland’s Lowland distilleries to ‘A Singular Blend’ aged 58 years and with an RRSP of £4,900.
Renowned whisky expert Charles Maclean, on sampling the new collection, said:
‘These are tremendous whiskies – greatly aged, complex, outstanding on the palate. However, what really sets them apart are the stories behind them. Every bottle is an invitation into the Gordon family’s ways of working – a very personal connection to a different era, a different mindset. We should be in no doubt that these whiskies are heirlooms and none more so than the 1963 release A Singular Blend. A legend within the Scotch whisky community, Charles Gordon spent much of his youth at Hazelwood House and in later years was fundamental in bringing in some of the earliest stock that was laid down for the House of Hazelwood Collection This eponymous collection of rare and old Scotch whiskies represents some of the most remarkable stock held within the inventory – every cask aged for at least fifty years, every bottle with its own story to tell.
Unprecedented at this age, the most singular of blends is composed not only of whiskies from the same region but scotch whiskies from the very same Highland distillery – with both grain and malt components stemming from the same year of production at the same site. Matured for 58 years in American Oak the blend has over time, taken on rich layers of complexity that complement and enhance both aspects of the distillery character.

Certain whiskies have the ability to transport the drinker back to lost places that cannot be revisited any other way. Such is the case with this remarkable aged malt, rich with the treacle toffee, liquorice and candied fruit notes found in old sweet shops. Warming, enormously satisfying and lightly drying on the finish, years of marrying in refill sherry butts have created a fully unified wonderfully evocative malt whisky.
The Next Chapter, 50 Year-Old Blended Scotch, 157 bottles worldwide, RRSP £4,000
Distilled in 1972 and initially aged to near perfection in a combination of European and American Oak this blend embarked upon a brave new chapter through a ten-year secondary finishing period in active ex-bourbon barrels. Such a process is unusual but has added fresh vigour to the already weighty blend – a testament to the power of new beginnings and a reminder that it is never too late to embark on the next chapter.

Some blends are so compelling that a little mystery only adds to their allure – and such is the case with this gloriously mature scotch whisky. While the precise provenance of its component parts were lost, we can say that the elements were distilled in 1978 and blended in 1989. An exclusive secondary maturation for a further 33 years in a single refill butt has created a blend of exceptional quality.

About House of Hazelwood
For almost one hundred years, generations of the Gordon family have carefully laid down stocks of whisky for special occasions and personal consumption. This rare collection has become known as House of Hazelwood, after the family’s Dufftown home – Hazelwood House.
Today, the House of Hazelwood collection has grown to become the greatest inventory of aged Scotch whisky held anywhere in the world. Spanning seven decades and every corner of Scotland, the diverse whiskies held in cask tell stories of remarkable places, lost ways of working, first casks, last casks, the ambitions and achievements of several lifetimes – none of which will be repeated.
The House of Hazelwood inventory is held in several carefully selected warehouses across Scotland, with fresh stocks laid down each year. Prior to bottling, a small proportion of the stocks are held in traditional dunnage warehousing near Dufftown in Speyside, from where they are carefully monitored and sampled ahead of release.
Rekorde! Rekorde! Rekorde! The Macallan The Reach darf sich mit einer weiteren Höchstmarke schmücken. Bei seiner Vorstellung im Februar bezeichnete die Brennerei den 81 Jahre alte Single Malt ’nur‘ als den ältesten Macallan, der jemals veröffentlicht wurde, diese Abfüllung war allerdings auch wohl der neue älteste Whisky der Welt. Und so wundert es jetzt auch nicht unbedingt, dass The Macallan The Reach nun auch der älteste Whisky ist, der je versteigert wurde.
£300,000 (Stand jetzt, in etwa 343.000 €) wurde von einem britischen Privatsammler für diese Abfüllung bei der gestern endenden Auktion bei Sotheby’s bezahlt. Neben der Flasche mit der Nummer 3 (von insgesamt 288) erhält der erfolgreiche Bieter zusätzlich noch die Möglichkeit, das Macallan Estate für eine Verkostung zu besuchen. The Macallan The Reach erzielte bei der Auktion etwa das dreifache des Schätzwertes, der Erlös fließt in Macallans neues Artisan Collective-Forum.

In der letzten Woche stellte die irische Powerscourt Distillery die neueste Abfüllung in ihrem Fercullen Portfolio vor. Fercullen 21 year old reifte 70 % in Bourbon-, zu 20 % in Oloroso- und zu 10 % in PX-Sherryfässern. Der Sherry-Anteil lagerte zunächst in Bourbonfässern, um dann weitere zwei Jahre in Fässern aus europäischer Eiche zu reifen.
Fercullen 21 yo ist ohne Kühlfiltrierung, mit 46 % ABV abgefüllt und auf 8.000 Flaschen limitiert. Die Abfüllung kann über die Website der Brennerei für 225 € bestellt werden. Neue Edition | Octomore 13er Serie – The impossible equation
Die Octomore Single Malts widersetzen sich auch weiterhin der gängigen Whisky-Weisheiten. Fünf Jahre lang gereift, immer super-heavily peated und in Fassstärke abgefüllt.
Mit jeder neuen Serie gehen wir an die Grenzen des Single Malt Whiskys. Destilliert mit dem Ziel, Qualität und nicht Quantität zu erreichen, setzt diese 13. Serie die Reise fort, um das Abstrakte und die Details des am stärksten getorften Single Malt Whiskys der Welt zu erforschen. Ist es die Herkunft der Gerste und das einzigartige Terroir auf dem sie angebaut wurde? Sind es die unterschiedlichen Torfgehalte, die Reifung am Meer oder die hingebungsvolle Arbeit der Mitarbeiter die dazu beitragen, die tadellose Ausgewogenheit jedes einzelnen jungen Tropfens zu erreichen?
Gradlinig und doch komplex, bleiben auch in dieser Serie die Grundlagen. Der Octomore 13.1 ist ebenso faszinierend, lebhaft und dynamisch wie seine Vorgänger. Die im Jahr 2015 geerntete Gerste stammt von einer Farm auf dem schottischen Festland, wurde mit 137,3 ppm getorft und als New Make für fünf Jahre in handverlesenen Fässern aus amerikanischer Eiche gereift.
Der 13.2 ist mit dem Einsatz spanischer Ex-Oloroso-Sherry-Fässer eine perfekte Alternative zum 13.1. Auch er wurde aus schotischer Concerto-Gerste hergestellt, mit einem Phenolanteil von 137,3 ppm gemälzt und fünf Jahre gereift. Adam Hannett, Head Disiller von Bruichladdich, sagt zu dieser Abfüllung: „Die Full-Term-
Reifung in First-Fill-Ex-Oloroso-Sherry-Fässern hat einen wunderbaren Einfluss auf unseren Malt. Die langsame Reifung in unserem Warehouse in Port Charlotte, der Meereseinfluss, sowie auch die großartigen Sherry-Fässer machen den 13.2 zu einem ganz besonderen Single Malt.“
Eine kraftvolle Verkörperung der wilden Hebrideninsel Islay stellt der Octomore 13.3 da. Superstark getorft, Inselgerste von der Ocotmore Farm, die von James Brown nur zwei Meilen von der Brennerei entfernt betrieben wird. Die Concerto-Gerste wurde wie beim 13.1 2015 geerntet und 2016 in der alten, viktorianischen Anlagen destilliert. In First-Fill-Ex-American-Oak-Fässern, sowie second-Fill-European-Oak-Fässern reifte diese Abfüllung fünf Jahre lang und erlangte eine feine Struktur mit einer kräftigen Basis.

Goldener Sand der wilden Hebrideninseln

Zu Beginn nussig, rauchig, mit malziger Süße und reifen Früchten. Dann folgen Aprikosen in Sirup, reife Birne sowie malzige Vanilletöne, die an Gerstenschrot, Crème brûlée und süßen Honig erinnern. Mit etwas Zeit entwickelt der 13.1 typische Aromen, die man von amerikanischer Eiche erwarten darf: Kokosnuss, Mandel und Holzkohle. Die rauchige Torfnote ist fein, aber dennoch recht präsent. In Kombination mit dem Fasseinfluss erinnert das Ensemble entfernt an Schuhcreme und Leder und bekommt eine faszinierend dunkle und erdige Nuance.
GESCHMACK
Süß und weich in der Textur, spürt man sofort das stark getorfte Malz – im Kopf entstehen Bilder von geräuchertem Müsli mit Früchten und Honig. Der zweite Schluck offenbart die ganze Komplexität des 13.1 – von geräucherter Aprikosenmarmelade, geschroteter Gerste, Torfmoor und verbranntem Heidekraut bis hin zu Zitrus- und Johannisbeeraromen mit türkischem Honig, Holz, gebrannten Mandeln, mit Schokolade glasierten Limettenstücken und würzigen Anissamen. Mit einem Tropfen Wasser verstärken sich Rauch und elegante Mineralität und bieten so ein wunderbares Gegengewicht zur Süße dieses Drams.
NACHKLANG
Die Süße macht erdig-moosigen Elementen Platz und lässt einer würzig-kräuterigen Rauchnote den Vortritt. Salzzitrone, Geranie und Rose runden die Komplexität wie auch die aromatische Widersprüchlichkeit ab – das berühmte Octomore Paradoxon.

Die Reifung in Ex-Oloroso-Sherry-Fässern bringt Noten von Orangensirup und Grapefruit sowie einem Hauch von Nelke, Zimt, Walnuss und Praliné hervor. Mit etwas Zeit erinnert der 13.2 an braunen Zucker, Rosinen, Dörrapfel, Melone und reife Birnen – umgeben von elegantem Torfrauch.
GESCHMACK
Von Anfang an ein Kraftpaket mit wunderbarem Schmelz und einer deutlichen Präsenz am Gaumen. Geräucherte Nüsse und Leder, erwärmte Orangenmarmelade auf frisch gebackenen Scones. Trockenaprikosen mit einem Hauch Pfeffer.
NACHKLANG
Wenn man diesem Dram genügend Zeit lässt, verbindet sich der dominante Rauch auf äußerst elegante Weise mit einer nussig-fruchtigen Komponente, die von der Oloroso-Reifung herrührt, sowie den für Islay so typischen salzig-mineralischen Noten.

Süßer Malzzucker und zu Beginn nur wenig Torfrauch leiten die Nase über grüne Früchte und florale Noten wie Rose und Geranie hin zu Aprikosen und ätherischem Eukalyptus.
Danach erinnert der Duft an Marzipan, Ingwerplätzchen und saftige Honigmelone. Mit einem Tropfen Wasser verstärkt sich schlussendlich der alles ummantelnde Torfrauch.
GESCHMACK
Samtige Textur mit süßem Honig und braunem Zucker. Auch hier erscheint zu Beginn der Torfrauch eher wie ein leises Flüstern.
Beim zweiten Schluck erinnert der 13.3 an Zitruszesten und maritime Muschelkalknoten mit verführerisch malzigen Keksaromen, Marzipan und Kokosnuss.
Nun kommt der rauchige Charakter schon etwas mehr zum Vorschein, mit Schuhpolitur und Asche im Schlepptau – ohne jedoch die fruchtig-floralen Aromen dieses wunderbaren Malts zu verdecken.
NACHKLANG
Der maritime Charakter wie auch der Torfrauch sind jetzt sehr deutlich im Fokus. Im lang anhaltenden, leicht süßlichen Nachklang gesellen sich noch Honig, Zitrone, gekochte Birne, warmer Sand und Marzipan hinzu.

Bereits im Sommer sind wir in den Genuss gekommen und durften uns bei einem Besuch beim Dalswinton Bond von Claxton’s von den vielfältigen und spannenden Casks überzeugen, die dort in den Warehouses schlummern. Die Lowland-Brennerei Bladnoch erweitert ihre Classic Collection. Neu hinzu (diese Abfüllung kündigte sich bereits an) kommt, neben neben Alinta, Vinaya und Samsara, jetzt Liora („das Geschenk des Lichts“ im Hebräischen). Dieser Lowland Single Malt Whisky lagerte und reifte in ehemaligen Bourbon Fässern und Fässern aus neuer Eiche.
Ohne Kühlfiltration, mit natürlicher Farbe und 52,2% Vol. abgefüllt, ist Bladnoch Liora in Großbritannien, online über die Bladnoch-Website und im Besucherzentrum der Brennerei mit einer unverbindlichen Preisempfehlung von £70 erhältlich (umgerechnet wären dies etwas 80 €). In den kommenden Monaten wird Liora auch weltweit über das Bladnoch-Händlernetzwerk vertrieben, der Verkaufspreis kann dann variieren.

Buffalo Trace Distillery and The Van Winkles Celebrate 20th Year of Distilling Partnership
FRANKFORT, FRANKLIN COUNTY, KY (Oct. 4, 2022) – Buffalo Trace Distillery is announcing the upcoming annual release of all six Van Winkle whiskey expressions. To the delight of whiskey fans, there will be more bottles available this year than usual of almost every Van Winkle expression due to both putting away more whiskey to age over 10 years ago and a higher yield than typical when moving from barrel to bottle.
This year’s release of the Family Reserve 15-Year-Old has been noted as particularly delicious by the sensory experts at Buffalo Trace, describing it as, “An unbelievably opulent and flawless bourbon that takes wood and distillate to its absolute pinnacle.”
The wheated recipe used by Buffalo Trace to make its Weller and Van Winkle Bourbons allows for longer aging, in some cases two decades or more, than the traditional rye recipe used in most bourbons. This wheated recipe also results in a smoother and somewhat sweeter flavor. The Weller and Van Winkle lines have earned an impeccable reputation among connoisseurs and have almost achieved cult-like status.
The annual Van Winkle collection release consists of six whiskeys. Suggested retail prices and tasting notes for the 2022 release are as follows:

Tasting Notes:
o Color: Tawny in color.
o Nose: Very sweet, with notes of honey, dulce de leche, caramel corn, rooibos tea and lightly toasted nuts. Hints of the wheat and corn are present which enhances the complexity.
o Taste: Medium-bodied palate with dried fruit and nuts. Each sip finishes with a very long bold wave of floral honey, caramel, and toasted barrel flavors which counter the weight of the alcohol.
o Finish: An elegant balance between oak, grain, and maturation.

Tasting Notes:
o Color: Brilliant amber.

o Taste: Butterscotch and toffee are prominent in the taste but there are also hints of spiced praline which contribute to the long, round finish that is sweet without being cloying.

This year marks a special milestone as it is the 20 th anniversary of the partnership between the Van Winkle family and Buffalo Trace Distillery. In 2002, the Van Winkles entered into an agreement with Buffalo Trace to produce, age, and bottle all its whiskeys, entrusting its wheated mashbill exclusively to the distilling team at Buffalo Trace to continue the family legacy started more than 125 years prior.
Given that Buffalo Trace Distillery was already producing the wheated recipe for the W.L. Weller bourbons, it made sense to the Van Winkle family to enter into a formal agreement to produce their bourbons as well. The W.L. Weller Bourbons were formally produced by the Van Winkle family until 1972, when the Weller brand was sold, and eventually acquired by Buffalo Trace Distillery. “Harlen Wheatley and his predecessors had been distilling the W.L. Weller wheated recipe for many years before our 2002 joint venture. We trusted their expertise in distilling and aging, and it paid off, as many of Buffalo Trace’s brands are just as sought after as our own,” said Julian Van Winkle III, president, Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery. “My son Preston and I still take care of the marketing and management of our brands, but we leave the rest of it to the team at Buffalo Trace. The twenty-year partnership has flown by, and I feel confident we’re leaving it in good hands for the future Van Winkle generations.”
The Van Winkle family and Buffalo Trace team would like to remind fans that even though the suggested retail pricing remains at what is considered a fair price, there is no control they can take over the price retailers charge. “Although we would prefer for retailers to charge our suggested retail pricing, unfortunately we cannot legally force them to do so.
The best chance to find our products at a fair price is through lotteries offered by many retailers, where fans have a chance to buy our bourbon at MSRP. Many of these lotteries benefit charities, so it’s a win-win for everyone,” added Van Winkle.
Enthusiasts are also reminded to avoid online resellers such as private Facebook groups, Craigslist and other online marketplaces. Unfortunately, Buffalo Trace Distillery has seen an increase in consumers buying Van Winkle bourbons from private sellers, only to find out later the product inside is counterfeit. “It’s quite common in other countries for consumers to buy alcohol from those outside the system (not a licensed retailer) and for them to drink it and get sick, and in some cases, it’s fatal,” said Mark Brown, president and chief executive officer, Buffalo Trace Distillery. “Fortunately, we haven’t seen a lot of deaths in the United States from those scenarios – yet – and we certainly hope we do not. But we caution people to only buy from a licensed retailer; do not buy from a private seller, even if it’s someone you know, as you don’t know where they got the whiskey. The counterfeiters have gotten very sophisticated with their technology, so it pays to be safe.”
Consumers who believe they have been duped should not drink anything that is questionable and can file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau or contact their State Attorneys General office.
The Van Winkle line of whiskeys have won a multitude of awards through the years, including the 20-year-old receiving a double gold medal, best bourbon, best small batch bourbon at the 2018 New York International Spirits Competition and the 15-year-old taking home a Gold Medal at the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
The Van Winkle Whiskeys will be available starting in October, but please be mindful that yields from the barrels are typically low due to the evaporation process during the long aging cycle, so supply is quite limited. Bottles will be hard to find in stores, bars and restaurants.
About Van Winkle Bourbon
The Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery has a four-generation history. The Van Winkle family’s involvement in the bourbon industry began in the late 1800s with Julian P. “Pappy” Van Winkle, Sr. He was a traveling salesman for the W.L. Weller and Sons wholesale house in Louisville. Pappy and a friend and fellow Weller salesman Alex Farnsley eventually bought the wholesale house and also partnered with Mr. A. Ph. Stitzel on the purchase of Mr. Stitzel’s distillery. The three of them merged the two companies and became the Stitzel-Weller Distillery after Prohibition.
In May of 1935 at the age of 61, Pappy opened the newly completed Stitzel-Weller Distillery in South Louisville. Its prominent brands were W.L. Weller, Old Fitzgerald, Rebel Yell, and Cabin Still. Pappy had a heavy influence on the operations there until his death at the age of 91. His son, Julian, Jr. took over operations until he was forced by stockholders to sell the distillery in 1972. The rights to all of their brands were sold to Norton Simon, Inc. Later, United Distillers, who eventually ended up with the Stitzel-Weller Distillery, sold off all of the original labels around 1999.
After selling the distillery, Julian Jr. resurrected a pre-Prohibition label, the only one to which the Van Winkles kept the rights, called Old Rip Van Winkle. He used whiskey stocks from the old distillery to supply his brand. Julian Jr.’s son, Julian, III took over in 1981 when Julian, Jr. passed away. Julian III has continued with the Van Winkle tradition of producing high-quality wheated bourbon. His son, Preston, joined the company in 2001 and the Van Winkles look to continue that tradition for generations to come.
In 2002 the Van Winkles entered into a joint venture with Buffalo Trace Distillery in Franklin County, Frankfort, Ky, joining the Van Winkle and Weller Bourbons again in one production house. It was a natural tie since the wheated mash bill used in the Weller Bourbons was already being produced at Buffalo Trace. All of the Van Winkle’s whiskey production now takes place at Buffalo Trace Distillery under the same strict guidelines the family has always followed. Arran Ex-Calvados Cask Edition 17 Years Old
Die Isle of Arran Distillers bringen diesen Herbst eine neue, stark limitierte Rare Batch Edition heraus. Der Single Malt lagerte in Ex-Calvados-Fässern, die zur Herstellung eines der ersten Wein Finish Single Malts verwendet wurden, die die Brennerei 2005 auf den Markt brachte. Diejenigen, die die Entwicklung von Arran über die Jahre hinweg verfolgt haben, erinnern sich vielleicht an die Serie der Calvados Finish Single Casks, die dank der guten Vereinbarkeit der Calvados-Fässer mit dem fruchtigen, frischen Destillat von Arran äußerst beliebt waren. Diese erlesenen Fässer für die Ex-Calvados Cask Edition stammen von einem Erzeuger, dessen Familie schon seit Generationen Calvados im Dorf Pont L‘ Évêque in der Normandie herstellt. 2005 wurden sie neu befüllt und haben den Arran Single Malt die vergangenen 17 Jahre lang reifen lassen. Dieser Whisky, der jetzt im luxuriösen Rare Batch Single Malt Format präsentiert wird, ist komplex mit Noten von Heidehonig, getrockneten Äpfeln und köstlichen Gartenfrüchten. Mit einem kleinen Hauch von Kakao ist er ebenso geschmackvoll wie überzeugend.
Der exklusive Importeur Kammer-Kirsch wird die Arran Single Malt Ex-Calvados 17yo Edition auf den deutschen Markt bringen. Diese Rare Batch Edition ist auf 4.200 Flaschen limitiert und wird Anfang November im Fachhandel für ca. 150€ angeboten. In Großbritannien wird der luxuriöse Single Malt Whisky dagegen nicht verkauft, denn er ist ausschließlich für den Export vorgesehen.

Nicht unweit der Bushmills Destillerie befindet sich die UNESCO-Welterbestätte Giant’s Causeway. Die diesjährige Causeway Collection, mit Bushmills 11 Year Old Banyuls Cask und dem 25 Year Old Madeira Cask, ist ebenso eindrucksvoll wie die etwa 40.000 gleichmäßig geformten Basaltsäulen, deren Alter etwa 60 Millionen Jahre beträgt.

Nach einer Reifung von über sechs Jahren in Oloroso-Sherry und Bourbon-Fässern veredelte Alex Thomas, Master Blender der Bushmills Destillerie, diesen einzigartigen Whiskey in seltenen Banyuls-Fässern. Fast fünf Jahre durfte der Blend in den außergewöhnlichen Banyuls-Fässern ruhen. Die süßen, angereicherten Dessertweinnoten dieser französischen Fässer bringen sensationelle Noten von sonnengereiften Pfirsichen und Aprikosen zum Vorschein. Die saftigen Steinobstnoten intensivieren sich im Laufe der Jahre, werden wärmer und süßer, mit einem Bouquet aus Vanille und Honig im Zusammenspiel mit frisch gebackenen Pfirsichen. Zarte Anklänge von Anis und schwarzer Johannisbeere runden das Geschmacksbild ab.
BUSHMILLS 25 YEAR OLD MADEIRA CASK
Der 25jährige repräsentiert eine gewisse Kühnheit mit einer Fassstärke von 50,3%vol. Als Hommage an die Generationen von irischen Whiskeys vereint dieser ausgelesene Tropfen verschiedene Fasslagerungen miteinander.
Das frische Destillat durfte über sechs Jahre sowohl in Oloroso-Sherry-Fässern als auch in Bourbon-Fässern reifen, bevor es als Blend mit einem 19jährigen Finish in den seltenen Madeira-Fässern zu diesem ausgewogenen fruchtigen Single Malt heranwuchs. Noten von Haselnüssen, Honig und reifen Aprikosen verleihen ihm einen vielschichtigen Charakter. Die Lagerung in den sehr fruchtbetonten Fässern bewirkt, dass dieser irische Whiskey als eine Komposition aus süßem Fruchtkuchen, karamellisiertem braunen Zucker und einem Hauch von getoasteter Eiche auftritt und mit einem lang anhaltenden Abgang ein wahres Erlebnis ist.
