Die Zodiacs von Seven Seals

The Lagavulin Jazz Distillery Bottling 2022 has been matured in refill American oak casks and finished in brandy casks for five years, delivering an unexpected twist of sweetness. This complex smooth expression perfectly entwines the soft winery notes with the smoky, chilli pepper heat character, usually found in Lagavulin.
Lagavulin Distillery Jazz 2022 will retail at £220 per 70cl, bottled at 55.4% ABV with 3000 bottles available.

For fans unable to attend the Jazz Festival on Islay, Lagavulin is releasing a unique 7 Year Old Festival Exclusive bottling, available for purchase online at malts.com.
Matured in a combination of refill and ex-bourbon hogshead casks, the Lagavulin Jazz Festival bottling is a pure and honest expression of the Islay liquid. At natural strength, this whisky opens with sweet citrus and fruity yet salty notes, which are slowly overpowered by wood smoke and white pepper heat.

About Lagavulin Islay Jazz Festival
The Festival, presented by Jazz Scotland and Islay Arts Association, will run from the 7-9 October 2022. The programme features some of the most exciting and creative Scottish musicians working in Scotland. From the Mercury nominated Fergus McCreadie to Islay favourites like Colin Steele, Mario Caribe and the Masterchef finalist Laura Macdonald. Appearing at the Festival for the first time, is acclaimed saxophonists Tim Garland and Helena Kay.
The wide stylistic range of the Festival is demonstrated by the wonderfully inventive vocal interpreters of classic and modern standards, Georgia Cecile and kitti. The Tenement Jazz Band salute the early years of both jazz and blues, singer/guitarist Aki Remally salutes the legacy of Gil Scott Heron and Astro Snax present a heady brew of funk, hip-hop and soul colliding with jazz improvisation. The festival will also feature Brian Palmer, the Islay based drummer, who has played every year.

Dennoch will man die operativen Profite in den nächsten zwei Jahren nachhaltig um sechs bis neun Prozent steigern, denn man sieht sich für diese Herausforderungen gut aufgestellt. Die Verkäufe seien in der letzten Zeit in allen Weltregionen gestiegen.
Dass Diageo gut für die Zukunft gerüstet sei, sähe man auch an den außergewöhnlich guten Verkaufszahlen ihrer Flaggschiffmarke Johnnie Walker: Im Finanzjahr 2022 (es endete am 30. Juni dieses Jahres) habe man eine Steigerung im Nettoverkauf um 21,4% auf einen Wert von 15,5 Milliarden Pfund erzielen können, und dabei üner 21 Millionen Kartons verkauft, eine Steigerung um 34%. Man führe das vor allem auf die wieder anspringenden Verkäufe in der Gastronomie zurück, die ja durch Covid längere Zeit nahezu lahmgelegt war.
Royal Mile Whiskies, eines der angesehensten Whiskygeschäfte Schottlands und auf der gleichnamigen Straße in Edinburgh beheimatet, wechselt den Besitzer: Iain McClune, ehemals Angestellter des Unternehmens und jetzt als Unternehmer in Sachen schottischem Whisky und Spirituosen tätig (ihm gehören Whisky Auctioneer, Wine Auctioneer, Rum Auctioneer und Bright Spirits), hat das Geschäft sowie einige unter dem gleichen Mantel befindliche Unternehmen gekauft. Iain McClune, a Scottish whisky and spirits entrepreneur, enthusiast, and former Royal Mile Whiskies employee, has agreed the purchase of Scotland’s leading independent specialist whisky business, Royal Mile Whiskies.
Royal Mile Whiskies sits under the Dormant Distillery Company (DDC) alongside Drinkmonger and The Cigar Box. They will all be retained, owned and operated in Scotland as part of the deal.
McClune, who worked at Royal Mile Whiskies for nearly a decade, becomes the second ex-employee to return as owner of the business. The acquisition will be made through Vintage Saga, McClune’s investment company which includes Whisky Auctioneer, Wine Auctioneer, Rum Auctioneer and Bright Spirits.
Keir Sword, founder of DDC, commented:
“I am delighted to pass the business over to Iain who as a former employee shares my affection for the business and understands the importance of our fantastic team of drinks enthusiasts. As a former employee who myself returned to buy Royal Mile Whiskies it is greatly satisfying to pass the baton on to one of our own, who shares my vision for the business and I trust to carry on our values.
“The fact the business retains its independent spirit but at the same time gains the backing and support of the equally enthusiastic and talented team at Vintage Saga, makes it a very exciting time for DDC.
“They inherit not only the wonderful staff, but a very supportive bunch of suppliers and loyal customers to all of whom I send my huge thanks for their contribution over the past quarter century. I wish Iain, Arthur and all of the team my very best for a bright future, and shall continue to cheer you all on from the sidelines.”
As part of Vintage Saga, DDC will continue to operate independently as its own entity, and also independently from other businesses within the group. It will benefit from Vintage Saga’s knowledge, expertise, relationships and reputation which will support its continued growth. Arthur Motley, who has worked alongside Keir Sword for over 20 years, will become Managing Director of DDC.

In einem Festakt auf Blair Castle (der 64. Zeremonie seit dem Bestehen) haben die Keepers of the Quaich acht neue Master und 47 neue Keeper aus über 20 Ländern weltweit aufgenommen. Als Master werden jene Keeper geehrt, die zumindest zehn Jahre den Keeper-Titel tragen und sich in dieser Zeit durch herausragende Verdienste um schottischen Whisky ausgezeichnet haben.

Celebrating Scotch Whisky
The Keepers of the Quaich is an international society which was established by the Scotch Whisky industry to celebrate the outstanding commitment of those involved in the production, promotion and protection of the world’s finest distilled spirit.
Only a limited number of people are inducted as a Keeper each year to honour those who have made an exceptional contribution in supporting Scotch Whisky. A robust selection process is a fundamental aspect of the Society: potential candidates can only be nominated and seconded by existing Keepers or Masters and they must have been associated with Scotch Whisky for at least seven years.
Since the foundation of the Society, just over 2,950 men and women from more than 100 countries have received the honour. Together with the select few that have served a further ten years and who have subsequently been distinguished as Master of the Quaich, they represent thousands of years of shared experience and knowledge.
Following successful nomination and unanimous ratification by the Management Committee, new Keepers and Masters are inducted at a private ceremony held twice a year when the Society meets in the Scottish Highlands at Blair Castle, the ancient and historic home of the Earls and Dukes of Atholl.
The Keepers of the Quaich also supports international chapters of the Society in key markets of the world where members continue to promote the values and prestigious image of Scotch Whisky. There are currently international chapters in Germany, Brazil, Australia, South Africa,
the Netherlands, the Nordics, the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America, India and Turkey.
The Society takes its name from the traditional two-handled drinking cup which is described in the ancient Gaelic language of Scotland as a ‘cuach’ or quaich, a vessel long associated with friendship and the enjoyment of Scotch Whisky.
Whiskys alter Jahrgänge waren mal vor einiger Zeit nichts Besonderes, zumindest was die Preisgestaltung betraf. Viele Whiskyfreunde erinnern sich wehmütig, als bei unabhängigen Abfüllern ausgezeichnete Whiskys 30+ en masse zu finden waren, die weniger kosteten als solche in der Altersgruppe von 18 Jahren heute.
Heute ist alter Whisky ein Luxusgut, und zwei dieser Vertreter aus der Destillerie Tomatin verkostet heute Serge Valentin unter dem Titel „Upper-Class“. 32 und 45 Jahre alt sind die beiden Kandidaten, und den Tasting Notes nach sind sie auch geschmacklich Oberklasse, sogar mehr noch, als die Punktewertungen in der Verkostung vermuten lassen:

Raasay jetzt in Österreich bei Pinkernells erhältlich
Die lange Wartezeit hat sich endlich ausgezahlt: Ab sofort ist das aktuelle Batch 3 (R-01.1) des Raasay Single Malts in Österreich verfügbar. Und auch von den ersten beiden Signature Releases (R-01 und R-02) konnte sich Pinkernells Whisky Market Salzburg nochmals kleine Mengen sichern.
Seit 2017 wird in der ersten legalen Destillerie auf der Hebriden-Insel Raasay (zwischen der größeren Insel Skye und dem Festland gelegen) Whisky gebrannt. Das besonders mineralienreiche Wasser, eine ungewöhnlich lange Fermentationszeit, die Kombination von getorftem und ungetorftem Spirit sowie die Lagerung in drei verschiedenen Fasstypen – first-fill Rye Whiskey, frische Chinkapin-Eiche und first-fill Bordeaux-Rotwein – ergeben einen komplexen, eleganten und vollmundigen Whisky mit der perfekten Balance aus Fruchtaromen, Karamellsüße und dezenten Rauchnoten.
Das extravagante Flaschendesign unterstreicht den eigenständigen Charakter der jungen Brennerei und ihre tiefe Verbindung zur rauen Landschaft der Hebriden. Simple Sample geht auf Deutschlandtour und veranstaltet jede Menge Online-Tastings mit deutschen Destillerien! Und heute präsentieren sie euch den Stopp #2.

Und es sind nicht nur Abfüllungen „von der Stange“, nein, hier ist sogar das neueste Schmuckstück, der 12-Jährige und ein bisher unveröffentlichtes Single Cask mit am Start!
Hier hat die Michaela einfach direkt am Fass angesetzt, also ein richtiges RAW Single Cask, ohne jegliche Filtration oder Nachbearbeitung. Den haben Olli und Steffen auf der Tour auch schon verkostet und waren mehr als begeistert. Es handelt sich hier um 6 Jahre altes Sauternes Fass.

In dieser Woche stellte Jack Daniel’s während der Show der Tax Free World Association (TFWA) in Cannes, Frankreich, seinen ersten Single Malt vor. Dieser neue Jack Daniel’s American Single Malt ist aus 100 % gemälzter Braugerste aus den nördlichen Bundesstaaten der USA hergestellt. Danach reifte er zunächst fünf Jahre lang in frisch ausgekohlten amerikanischen Eichenfässern, abschließend genoss er für zwei Jahre und acht Monate ein Finish in Oloroso-Sherryfässern.
Diese exklusive Abfüllung für den Reiseeinzelhandel, mit 45 5 Vol. abgefüllt, wird weltweit mit einer UVP von 100 US-Dollar veröffentlicht. Allerdings müssen wir uns noch etwas gedulden. Sein Debüt wird der Single Malt von Jack Daniel’s erst im Juni 2023 geben.
Die M&H Distillery aus Tel Aviv stellt heute ihre neue „Art&Craft“-Single-Malt-Whisky-Serie vor, die ab sofort in Deutschland, The Niederlande und Belgien erhältlich ist. Tel Aviv – October 6, 2022: M&H Distillery, Israel’s award-winning whisky distillery, announces the official launch of the “Art&Craft” single malt whisky series, the distillery’s new signature limited editions of forward-thinking whiskies, available now in Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium.
The first collection of the “Art&Craft” series presents six single malt whiskies matured in ex-beer casks: DoppelBock Beer Cask, Barely Wine Cask, Stout Beer Cask, Belgian Ale Beer Cask, Chocolate Porter Beer Cask and ex-Islay IPA cask.
The “Art&Craft” series reinforces M&H Distillery’s continued commitment to experimentation and innovation without compromising craftsmanship and tradition. Tomer Goren, M&H Distillery’s head distiller, explains, „As a Tel Aviv-based craft distillery, we are constantly thinking about how we can bring new bold and unique concepts to the table; our philosophy is to think outside the box. Four years ago, we approached six different local breweries, and together with the brewmaster at each brewery, we selected beers to mature in our whiskey casks. Each beer has a distinct scent and flavor, and each limited edition of whisky aged in various ex-beer casks is one-of-a-kind. The second Art&Craft collection will focus on chosen local Israeli wineries that we worship, will be released in Spring 2023 and you will be able to taste whisky matured in ex-Israeli wine casks. Chocolate Porter Beer Cask and ex-Islay IPA cask are the two editions to hit the shelves in the German market.
Chocolate Porter Beer Cask is a single malt whisky that was fully matured in three ex-beer casks from the Israeli Shapiro Brewery located in the German colony neighborhood in Jerusalem. These originally ex-bourbon casks that were used to mature the M&H spirit, granted to Shapiro and in-turn used for the maturation of the Shapiro Chocolate Stout Beer, which is characterized by powerful notes of dark chocolate, coffee, caramel and toasted oak. After 6 months, the beer was extracted and bottled, and the casks returned to M&H, re-filled and matured to perfection for 4 years.
Ex-Islay IPA Beer Cask is a single malt whisky that has been fully aged in three ex-beer casks from Israel’s renowned Dictator Beer Company. These casks, which were originally ex-Islay casks granted to Dictator by M&H, were then used to mature the Dictator Peated IPA, the brand’s very final edition, which is distinguished by apparent peat, aromatic, bitter, and citric hops aromas. The beer was extracted after 4-6 months, and the casks were returned to M&H, re-filled, and aged to perfection for 3 years.
Retail price for the Chocolate Porter Beer Cask and the ex-Islay IPA Beer Cask is 75 euros. M&H Distillery’s spirits are distributed in Germany by Kammer-Kirsch.

Nachdem House of Hazelwood seine Eröffnungskollektion im Mai dieses Jahres veröffentlichte (wir berichteten), präsentiert man nun bereits die neue Herbstkollektion. House of Hazelwood, das ist eine einst private Sammlung der Familie Gordon, Besitzer des Unternehmens William Grant & Sons. Diese setzt sich zusammen aus Fässern, die seit fast 100 Jahren zusammengestellt wurden, und eigentlich für spezielle Ereignisse und den Privatverbrauch vorgesehen waren.
Wie bei der Eröffnungskollektion, werden acht Whiskys in zwei Sortimenten veröffentlicht: The Charles Gordon Collection und The Legacy Collection. Die Sammlung, so die Pressemitteilung, reicht von The Lowlander, einer ungewöhnlichen 36-jährigen Veröffentlichung mit einerm UVP von £950, bis hin zu „A Singular Blend“ mit einem Alter von 58 Jahren und mit einem UVP von £4.900.

HOUSE OF HAZELWOOD UNVEILS SECOND RELEASE OF EIGHT HIGHLY COLLECTABLE SCOTCH WHISKIES
Rare 1963 single distillery release – A Singular Blend – leads the collection, showcasing provenance never before seen at this age
Following the sell-out within weeks of their inaugural ‘First Drop’ release, House of Hazelwood today unveils its much-anticipated Autumn Collection of eight rare and old Scotch whiskies. Hand-selected from the once-private collection of the Gordon family, the release contains some of the most sought-after and remarkable Scotch whiskies in the world.
The rarest within the collection, with just 74 bottles available worldwide, is the aptly named 1963 release – ‘A Singular Blend’. This remarkable single distillery blend comprises grain and malt components distilled within the very same Highland distillery in the same year of production, 58 years ago. A Scotch whisky of such provenance has never before been offered for sale at this age.
House of Hazelwood launched its inaugural collection in May this year, with the ambition to open the doors to the diverse range of rare, aged and storytelling whiskies laid down by the Gordon family over the last hundred years, none of which can ever be repeated.
Describing the Autumn Collection, which is now exclusively available to pre-order online, House of Hazelwood Marketing Director Jonathan Gibson, said: ‘Our Autumn Collection speaks not only to the breadth and depth of the inventory that we are privileged to work with but also to the character of those family-members who built the stocks over the course of generations. These are truly remarkable liquids; the consequence of remarkable thinking, of brave decision-making and the luxury of time that private family ownership brings. No whisky exemplifies this more than A Singular Blend – a rare composition, unheard of at this age with a truly outstanding character that makes it at once a joy to drink and a treasure to collect.’
As with the inaugural collection, eight whiskies have been released across two ranges: The Charles Gordon Collection and The Legacy Collection. The collection ranges from The Lowlander, an unusual 36-year-old release at £950 RRSP bringing together mature spirit from across a number of Scotland’s Lowland distilleries to ‘A Singular Blend’ aged 58 years and with an RRSP of £4,900.
Renowned whisky expert Charles Maclean, on sampling the new collection, said:
‘These are tremendous whiskies – greatly aged, complex, outstanding on the palate. However, what really sets them apart are the stories behind them. Every bottle is an invitation into the Gordon family’s ways of working – a very personal connection to a different era, a different mindset. We should be in no doubt that these whiskies are heirlooms and none more so than the 1963 release A Singular Blend. A legend within the Scotch whisky community, Charles Gordon spent much of his youth at Hazelwood House and in later years was fundamental in bringing in some of the earliest stock that was laid down for the House of Hazelwood Collection This eponymous collection of rare and old Scotch whiskies represents some of the most remarkable stock held within the inventory – every cask aged for at least fifty years, every bottle with its own story to tell.
Unprecedented at this age, the most singular of blends is composed not only of whiskies from the same region but scotch whiskies from the very same Highland distillery – with both grain and malt components stemming from the same year of production at the same site. Matured for 58 years in American Oak the blend has over time, taken on rich layers of complexity that complement and enhance both aspects of the distillery character.
Unprecedented in terms of age and provenance, this exceptional rare release represents a connection to a lost era of Scotch production within which grain and malt components were distilled at the same site.

Certain whiskies have the ability to transport the drinker back to lost places that cannot be revisited any other way. Such is the case with this remarkable aged malt, rich with the treacle toffee, liquorice and candied fruit notes found in old sweet shops. Warming, enormously satisfying and lightly drying on the finish, years of marrying in refill sherry butts have created a fully unified wonderfully evocative malt whisky.
The Next Chapter, 50 Year-Old Blended Scotch, 157 bottles worldwide, RRSP £4,000
Distilled in 1972 and initially aged to near perfection in a combination of European and American Oak this blend embarked upon a brave new chapter through a ten-year secondary finishing period in active ex-bourbon barrels. Such a process is unusual but has added fresh vigour to the already weighty blend – a testament to the power of new beginnings and a reminder that it is never too late to embark on the next chapter.
The Unknown, 44 Year-Old Blended Scotch, 143 bottles worldwide, RRSP£3,000
Some blends are so compelling that a little mystery only adds to their allure – and such is the case with this gloriously mature scotch whisky. While the precise provenance of its component parts were lost, we can say that the elements were distilled in 1978 and blended in 1989. An exclusive secondary maturation for a further 33 years in a single refill butt has created a blend of exceptional quality.

About House of Hazelwood
For almost one hundred years, generations of the Gordon family have carefully laid down stocks of whisky for special occasions and personal consumption. This rare collection has become known as House of Hazelwood, after the family’s Dufftown home – Hazelwood House.
Today, the House of Hazelwood collection has grown to become the greatest inventory of aged Scotch whisky held anywhere in the world. Spanning seven decades and every corner of Scotland, the diverse whiskies held in cask tell stories of remarkable places, lost ways of working, first casks, last casks, the ambitions and achievements of several lifetimes – none of which will be repeated.
The House of Hazelwood inventory is held in several carefully selected warehouses across Scotland, with fresh stocks laid down each year. Prior to bottling, a small proportion of the stocks are held in traditional dunnage warehousing near Dufftown in Speyside, from where they are carefully monitored and sampled ahead of release.
Rekorde! Rekorde! Rekorde! The Macallan The Reach darf sich mit einer weiteren Höchstmarke schmücken. Bei seiner Vorstellung im Februar bezeichnete die Brennerei den 81 Jahre alte Single Malt ’nur‘ als den ältesten Macallan, der jemals veröffentlicht wurde, diese Abfüllung war allerdings auch wohl der neue älteste Whisky der Welt. Und so wundert es jetzt auch nicht unbedingt, dass The Macallan The Reach nun auch der älteste Whisky ist, der je versteigert wurde.
£300,000 (Stand jetzt, in etwa 343.000 €) wurde von einem britischen Privatsammler für diese Abfüllung bei der gestern endenden Auktion bei Sotheby’s bezahlt. Neben der Flasche mit der Nummer 3 (von insgesamt 288) erhält der erfolgreiche Bieter zusätzlich noch die Möglichkeit, das Macallan Estate für eine Verkostung zu besuchen. The Macallan The Reach erzielte bei der Auktion etwa das dreifache des Schätzwertes, der Erlös fließt in Macallans neues Artisan Collective-Forum.
