The Epicurean Three Wood Finish: A Masterclass in Versatility
Douglas Laing & Co. proudly unveils The Epicurean Three Wood Finish, a limited-edition celebration of cask craft and Lowland spirit. Bottled at a natural cask strength of 54.1% and offered in a run of just 1,920 bottles, this Small Batch release reaffirms The Epicurean’s status as the Master of Versatility.
In this exceptional bottling, three distinct wood types unite to create a Whisky of remarkable depth and character:

Sherry casks impart a luxurious fruitiness and mellow warmth.
Together, these casks create a harmonious Lowland Malt that is as complex as it is compelling.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Bright citrus, vanilla cream and toasted oak, with honey’d sweetness and hints of dried fruit and nutty spice.

Single Malt English Whisky – Caribbean Rum Cask – 53.2%vol – 70cl
Originally matured in a Bordeaux Cask, it was moved after several months to a Bourbon cask, as we felt it was getting too tannic. This short time in a Wine Cask has however given it an extra dimension of character and the almost full maturation in a subsequent Bourbon Cask has married with it perfectly.
Nose – Caramel, Vanilla, Spice, honey
Palate – Caramel, Spice, crème brûlée, soda float.
Single Malt English Whisky – The Matriarch – 51.9%vol – 70cl
The Mother bottling, blending the four sibling casks together. Made for our past Matriarch Shaz.
A Single Malt blend of the 4 single casks – Oloroso, Bourbon first fill, Bourbon quarter casks and Rum Cask.
Nose – Sweet Caramel running through the middle, deepened with spice, dried fruit and flashes of tropical fruit.
Palate – Backbone of caramel and vanilla from the Bourbon Casks, which is given complexity of dried fruit and spice from the Oloroso, and is balanced by the sweetness and tropical highlights of the Rum Cask.

Titanic Distillers „5 Year Old Pot Still Whiskey”
Nose: You’ll immediately notice an infusion of rich oak, toasted vanilla, and sweet honey undertones, accompanied by a delicate whisper of candied ginger.
Palate: It presents a creamy mouth-feel with a nutty core, concluding a lasting spice.
Finish: As the gentle warmth ebbs away, the ginger gracefully resurfaces, revealing its presence once again and shows it’s strength of character.

The Relentless Rise of Penderyn: The Welsh Workers Who Revived Welsh Whisky and Conquered the World – Launch of first peated Welshy Whisky in 100 Years From Llandudno, North Wales, 17 Jul
Move over, Scotch – Welsh whisky is taking the world by storm, and at the heart of this revolution is the indomitable Penderyn Distillery. In a year packed with milestones, Penderyn is proving once again why it’s not just a leader, but a legend.
25 Years, 140 Awards, 50+ Countries: Penderyn’s Meteoric Ascent
Penderyn Distillery, born in the Brecon Beacons in 2000, is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2025 – a quarter-century since it resurrected Welsh whisky from the ashes of a tragic past. In 1910, exactly 115 years ago, the once-thriving Welsh whisky industry was “liquidated” as the Temperance movement swept across Wales, shutting down distilleries and silencing a proud tradition for more than a century. Penderyn’s revival has been nothing short of miraculous, raking in a staggering 140 international awards and now exporting its liquid gold to over 50 countries, from the US to the Far East.
Penderyn’s vision has catapulted the brand into the global elite. Penderyn’s Asian sales have skyrocketed tenfold since 2021, with the Dragon series, especially Penderyn Legend, becoming a cult favourite in China and Taiwan. India, the world’s third-largest single malt market, is now firmly in Penderyn’s sights, thanks to a strategic partnership with Dhall Foods & Beverages, opening the doors to a $18.38 billion market.
Award-Winning Leadership: IoD Wales Director of the Year – Again!
Stephen Davies. Picture Mandy Jones
It’s not just the whisky that’s winning awards. The CEO of Penderyn, Stephen Davies, from Port Talbot, has himself scooped the Institute of Directors Wales Director of the Year Award multiple times, outshining a fiercely competitive field of business titans. Judges praised his “vision, integrity, and impact” – qualities that have defined Penderyn’s relentless march forward.
2025: A Year of Blockbuster Launches and Star-Studded Celebrations
This year, Penderyn is pulling out all the stops. On June 18, Welsh superstar Katherine Jenkins brought her Cygnet Gin literally under the Penderyn umbrella, hosting a glitzy midsummer soirée at the historic Copperworks Distillery in Swansea, where Cygnet Gin now has a home. The event, attended by Welsh luminaries and celebrities, showcased the best of Welsh spirits and cuisine, cementing Penderyn’s status as a cultural as well as a distilling powerhouse.
The Copperworks site also saw the launch of Penderyn’s Icons of Wales No. 12: Copperopolis, a whisky that pays homage to Swansea’s industrial past. Matured in sweet red wine casks and bottled at 46% ABV, Copperopolis is a tribute to the city once known as the world’s copper capital.
And the innovation doesn’t stop there. On July 17, Penderyn’s Llandudno Distillery will release its first ever bottling after four years of maturation: Serpents Tears, promising to be another collector’s sensation.
From the Brink of Oblivion to Global Glory
Let’s not forget: 115 years ago, in 1910, the Welsh whisky industry was wiped out by the sweeping force of Temperance, leaving Wales without a single whisky distillery for generations. Penderyn’s first single malt, launched on St David’s Day 2004, marked the rebirth of a lost tradition.
Penderyn is not just a survivor—it’s a global juggernaut, proudly flying the Welsh flag on every continent.
The Verdict: Davies and Penderyn – Unstoppable
As Penderyn marks 25 years of excellence, the numbers speak for themselves: 140+ awards, 50+ countries, explosive growth in Asia and India, and a leader who keeps rewriting the rulebook.
In a world of corporate hype, Penderyn Distillery are the real deal – and 2025 is their year to shine brighter than ever.
Penderyn Unveils First North Wales Whisky: Serpent’s Tears, a Smoky Fruit Single Malt – Thurs, 17th July 2025
Penderyn Distillery, the home of Welsh whisky, has announced the launch of Serpent’s Tears – the first single malt peated whisky to be crafted at its landmark North Wales distillery in Llandudno, inspired by Llandudno’s landscape of the Great Orme headland. This is a 46% abv bottle and a ‘first release’. This highly anticipated release marks a new chapter for Penderyn and for the Welsh whisky renaissance, offering enthusiasts a unique smoky, fruity profile that reflects the spirit of the region. This will be the “first of its kind” peated whisky to be made in Wales since Fron Goch Distillery closed over 100 years ago.
A Milestone for Welsh Whisky
Penderyn’s Llandudno distillery has stood as a symbol of innovation and ambition in North Wales. Now, after meticulous distillation and maturation, the team is ready to unveil its inaugural whisky from the site. Serpent’s Tears is a peated single malt, embodying the delicate balance of smoke and fruitiness that has become a hallmark of Penderyn’s craftsmanship.
LLandudno Distillery
Stephen Davies, Chief Executive of Penderyn Distillery, commented:
“In July this year, we will release our very first whisky from our Llandudno distillery – Serpent’s Tears – and it will be a smoky, fruity peated single malt. This is a proud moment for our team and for Welsh whisky as a whole.”
The Llandudno facility, situated in the heart of the Victorian seaside town, leverages a unique production process, including distillation on the Faraday Still at an industry-high 92% ABV. This approach yields a delicate spirit that forms the foundation for the Serpent’s Tears complex character.
The Serpent’s Tears has evolved from Llandudno’s Great Orme:
“From the Viking Longships, the brooding North Wales headland emerging from the fog and mist resembled a terrible and fearsome beast. The Great Orme, derived from the Old Norse meaning ‘Great Serpent’ had survived volcanic eruptions, dinosaurs, and the Ice Age, so no wonder it created dread in the minds of these sea-farers, many of who foundered in the tears of the Serpent. Nestling in the shadow of The Great Orme, Penderyn Llandudno Lloyd Street distillery has crafted and matured this lightly peated whisky, reminding us of the adventurous spirit of past explorers and the natural beauty of our home.”
Aista Phillips, the Master Blender, revealed that
“Serpent’s Tears has the nose of an autumnal day in a glass. Dry leaves, orchard fruits, wood smoke – dry logs on the crackling open fire. Some creamy notes in the background and heavy toasted bread. On the palate, sweet peat, soft vanilla cream, sugared pancake with burnt edges. Baking apples with the hint of malt and a touch of peppery spice and clove, and a finish of warming soft peat that lingers in the mouth with a barley sweetness.”
Expanding the Penderyn Portfolio
The distillery is set to introduce two new bottlings in 2025 to showcase the breadth of Welsh whisky innovation. The launch of Serpent’s Tears, following on from the successful release of Icons of Wales #12 – Copperopolis – which pays tribute to Swansea’s rich industrial heritage as the world’s copper capital and celebrates Penderyn’s distillery in the historic Hafod Morfa copperworks powerhouse.
Aista Phillips
Aista Phillips, the Master Blender, stated that
“Copperopolis is matured in sweet red wine casks, and presents a vibrant bouquet of floral and fruity aromas – orange blossom, peaches, cherries, and orange peel – layered with sweet vanilla, honey, and a gentle spice of dried fruits. The palate delivers a luscious mouthfeel, rich sweetness of caramel and honey, and a bouquet of dried fruits – raisins, figs – culminating in a finish of dry oak, citrus sweetness, and a dusting of cocoa.”
A Year of Growth and Collaboration
Penderyn’s momentum extends beyond new product launches. The company was recently recognised as one of the fastest-growing food and drink producers in Wales by Wales Business Insider magazine, reflecting its expanding footprint both at home and in over 50 international markets.
Despite ongoing challenges in the drinks industry, Penderyn remains committed to aligning production with market demand.
“The drinks industry is very challenging at the moment and we expect that to continue for the rest of this year,” Davies noted. “We are looking to keep production in line with sales, so we’ll keep a close eye on market performance.”
Innovation also extends to partnerships. Penderyn is collaborating with renowned Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins and her husband, Andrew Levitas, to establish the Swansea Copperworks distillery as the home of premium Cygnet Gin – a move that brings together two of Wales’s most celebrated brands and underscores the distillery’s role as a hub of craft spirits and Welsh heritage.
Penderyn’s pioneering spirit has been central to the resurgence of Welsh whisky over the past 25 years. With the launch of Serpent’s Tears, the distillery not only cements its presence in North Wales, but also reaffirms its commitment to innovation, quality, and the celebration of Welsh culture on the global stage.
As the world raises a glass to Serpent’s Tears and the stories behind Copperopolis, Penderyn invites whisky lovers everywhere to experience the evolving landscape of Welsh spirits – a journey defined by bold flavours, rich history, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
Glengoyne 12 Year Old First Fill Edition ersetzt dem 10 Jahre alten Glengoyne in der Spirit of Time Collection.
“We are delighted to introduce the Glengoyne 12 Year Old First Fill Edition. It is a new core expression for our most popular single malt, crafted using only first-fill casks, delivering maximum flavour. The release offers a unique proposition for travel retail.
“Tamdhu Gran Reserva hand-selected casks are the best of the best and the pinnacle of sherry cask maturation, appealing to sherry cask whisky connoisseurs. Gran Reserva is becoming one of the most iconic and sought-after expressions in our travel retail line-up.”
“Not only do Charter Brands provide access to key international markets, their proven sales expertise is complemented by their strong brand building capabilities.
“We very much look forward to working with the Charter Brands team, amplifying our brand’s reach and establishing DWD once again as a recognised leader in the Irish whiskey industry.”

The Perfect Fifth Releases Two Whiskies for the Summer, Including Rare 50-Year-Old Scotch and 15-Year-Old American Whiskey
North of Scotland Release Destined to be a Collector’s Item Due to Provenance
NEW YORK (July 9, 2025) – The Perfect Fifth, an American independent Scotch Whisky bottler known for its rare, ultra-premium single cask Scotch Whiskies, is adding two more gems to its collection with the release of a 50-Year-Old Scotch called North of Scotland and a 15 Year-Old Single Barrel American Whiskey under its Cannongate line.
North of Scotland
Scotch connoisseurs will be excited about these two releases, given the provenance of each. The North of Scotland 50 Year-Old Scotch comes from its eponymous distillery, which was shuttered in 1980. The North of Scotland Distillery was known for its innovation and produced what is widely considered one of the most flavorsome grain whiskies, due to its higher number of congeners in the spirit cut, as directed by its then-owners to retain its character with age.
North of Scotland is a single-grain Scotch Whisky from the lowland region, distilled in 1973. The Perfect Fifth purchased a barrel from the original owner some years ago and bottled it in 2025. The whisky is light, floral, and sweet, like tropical fruits. Today, any whiskies produced at North of Scotland are considered collector’s items, and The Perfect Fifth’s release is sure to be added to that list.
“The North of Scotland Distillery has a special place in Scotland’s whisky history. Even though it was only in place for 20 years, their whiskies were known to be flavorful and innovative for their time. When we ran across the opportunity to purchase a barrel from North of Scotland, we were eager to do so, due to its lineage and its elegant and refreshing palate. It truly is a testament to the distillation craftsmanship that has allowed this barrel to stand the test of time after more than half a century of aging.”
Karl Schoen, founder and chief executive officer, The Perfect Fifth
With only 90 bottles available, The Perfect Fifth’s North of Scotland 50-Year-Old Single Grain Scotch Whisky will be highly sought after. Like all whiskies produced under The Perfect Fifth’s premium line, this bottle comes in a custom, hand-made miniature barrel inscribed with The Perfect Fifth logo, which makes a show-stopping display piece on any bar. The suggested retail price of North of Scotland is $915, and ABV is 45.6%.
Canongate 15-Year-Old Single Barrel American Whiskey
The second release, Canongate 15-Year-Old Single Barrel American Whiskey, is part of the brand’s “Born and Bottled” series, which pays tribute to the spirited relationship between Kentucky and Scotland. This whiskey was distilled in Bardstown, Kentucky, in 2009, spent three years aging in Kentucky, and was then sent to Scotland to age another 12 years before being bottled. The unique blend of Kentucky’s tempestuous weather, combined with Scotland’s more temperate climate, has resulted in a whiskey with multiple layers of vanilla and hints of cocoa and light spice.
The Canongate 15-Year-Old Single Barrel American Whiskey is a limited edition with only 236 bottles available in the United States. The alcohol by volume (ABV) is 63.53. Suggested retail pricing is $185 per 750 mL.
“We’re excited to bring these two expressions out for the summer,” said Schoen, “The Canongate 15-Year-Old is a unique bottling due to the transatlantic journey the barrel took by first spending time in Kentucky, then in Scotland, and now back in the United States. This bottling celebrates the symbiotic relationship between our two countries in regards to cask sharing.”
Both the North of Scotland and Canongate 15-Year-Old Whiskies are available at retail in New York, New Jersey, California, and online at www.theperfectfifth.com.

Neu: Glen Scotia Double Cask Bordeaux Red Wine Finish
The nine-month finish in Bordeaux Red Wine casks creates notes of strawberry and redcurrants layered with a gentle honey sweetness from our first fill
bourbon maturation. The palate reveals rich waves of ripe red fruit, balanced by smooth oak character and a distinctive thread of maritime salinity. The finish is long and refined with lingering warmth, subtle tannic spice and a graceful note of Bordeaux’s vineyard elegance.

BUFFALO TRACE DISTILLERY REVIVES AN ORIGINAL 19TH-CENTURY RECIPE WITH THE RELEASE OF COLONEL E.H. TAYLOR’S DISTILLER’S COUNCIL
The inspiration for this modern recreation traces back to 1996, when a group of bourbon visionaries and retired George T. Stagg Distillery craftsmen* convened at Buffalo Trace Distillery in their pursuit to create the world’s best whiskey, a mission that continues to guide production at the World’s Most Award-Winning Distillery today. As they sampled more than 30 whiskeys across a range of ages, mash bills and proofs, one voice cut through the room with a thought: “Well, we don’t make whiskey the way we used to.” This led to the Distiller’s Council unpacking the way that whiskey was made when they first started their careers. That meeting, until now known by bourbon insiders as the “Distiller’s Council”, resulted in a re-discovery of E.H. Taylor’s pioneering techniques that had been lost to history.
In the spirit of Honor Tradition, Embrace Change, this led to the revival of Taylor’s sour mashing process – patent pending by Buffalo Trace – and, combined with the modern wisdom of Buffalo Trace’s expert distillation team, the creation of Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Distiller’s Council. Crafted using his trailblazing techniques, the production process remains nearly identical to that of the 1880s using both grains in his mashbill and his fermentation process. This expression celebrates a seminal moment in bourbon history and commemorates that meeting with a one-of-a-kind expression that tastes unlike anything else currently available on the market.
“Colonel Taylor’s unwavering commitment to quality and innovation has helped shape every decision at our Distillery since he set our standards in 1870. His enduring legacy left a profound impact on everyone present on that fateful day in 1996. As many of them are no longer with us, we hope they are enjoying this angel’s share with the Colonel himself – watching proudly as we carry his vision forward.”
Widely recognized as the “Father of the Modern Bourbon Industry,” Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. purchased the O.F.C. Distillery in 1869 and ushered in a new era of innovation. From state-of-the-art grain equipment to copper fermentation tanks and the first steam-heated barrel warehouses – still in use at Buffalo Trace today – Taylor’s vision revolutionized bourbon production. His advocacy also led to the landmark Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897, cementing his legacy as a champion of quality and integrity. His visionary spirit continues to guide Buffalo Trace more than a century later.
“Colonel E.H. Taylor didn’t just shape a distillery – he helped shape the entire bourbon industry. That’s why he’s known as the Father of Modern Bourbon. From championing the Bottled-in-Bond Act to modernizing production standards, many of his innovations have stood the test of time and are in use to this day. Always of Topmost Class, he set the bar for integrity, innovation and craftsmanship. In that spirit, we are proud to revive this faithful interpretation of his original recipe, crafted with the same standards of quality and spirit of innovation he so fiercely advocated.”
Andrew Duncan, Global Brand Director at Buffalo Trace Distillery
Bottled at 100-proof in a vintage-style, Grecian glass decanter modeled after one featured in an 1950s-era Old Taylor “Original Recipe” Bourbon advertisement – as seen in popular magazines such as TIME and Playboy – this special bottling will be available in limited-quantities nationwide at retail stores, restaurants and bars starting July 2025 at a suggested retail price of $1,499.99 (750ml) (local taxes and costs dependent).
Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Distiller’s Council is the 14th release to join the acclaimed bourbon portfolio alongside expressions including Small Batch, Single Barrel, Rye, Barrel Proof Rye, Warehouse C Tornado Surviving Bourbon, Four Grain and more. In Fall 2025, E.H. Taylor will join the annual, highly-anticipated Buffalo Trace Antique Collection as the Collection’s first Bottled-in-Bond bourbon.
