Für ihren neuesten Fund ging der „Blick über den flüssigen Tellerrand“ der beiden THE LIQUID MADNESS-Masterminds Tilo Schnabel & Sebastian Büssing sehr viel weiter als je zuvor … und traf auf einen Whisky der PŌKENO Distillery in Neuseeland! Das umtriebige „Duo Infernal“ weiß halt sehr gut, mit welch mitunter schrägem, aber immer sehr leckerem Zeug es seine Fans, Freunde & den experimentierfreudigen Rest begeistern kann … und da ihnen ist kein Weg zu weit!
AOTEAROA TERROIR
Wer das selbst nach mehreren Drams noch fehlerfrei auszusprechen vermag, verdient unseren höchsten Respekt! Und was sich zunächst wie der Name einer Metal Band anhört, steht tatsächlich für die hinter PŌKENO stehende Philosophie. TAOTEAROA ist der uralte Maori-Name für Neuseeland, und PŌKENO-Gründer Matt Johns und sein Team legen höchsten Wert auf das besondere Terroir ihrer Heimat – vom Quellwasser aus den vulkanischen Hügeln rund um die Brennerei, über die Gerste von familiengeführten Farmen aus der Region bis hin zu Fässern aus der eigenen (und landesweit einzigen!) Küferei, teils vorbelegt mit Wein aus Neuseeland. Jeder Herstellungsschritt bei PŌKENO findet vor Ort statt – der Whisky ist somit ein durch und durch lokales Produkt!
Das 2017 gegründete Familienunternehmen aus der Region Waikato südlich von Auckland ist mittler-weile Neuseelands größte Single Malt Brennerei. Was aber macht ihren Erfolg aus? Die Whiskys von PŌKENO werden zwar nach traditionell schottischem Vorbild gebrannt, profitieren aber sehr von der ‚entschleunigten‘ Produktion in Chargen, langen Fermentationszeiten von teils über 80 Stunden und einer langsamen Destillation in kupfernen Pot Stills. Darüber hinaus nutzt man weitere Potenziale des Terroirs wie eigene Hefestämme, spezielle Malzarten oder weltweit einzigartige Fässer aus lokalem Totara-Holz. PŌKENO’s ‚Special Move‘ ist aber die Reifung im natürlichen Turbogang: im warmen, subtropischen Klima Neuseelands reifen die Fässer recht schnell – allein der jährliche Angels’ Share beträgt bis zu neun Prozent! Eine in Schottland übliche Lagerung von zehn Jahren wäre in Neuseeland daher völlig unmöglich. Es überrascht also nicht, dass der von Tilo & Sebastian ausgewählte PŌKENO mit seinen fast 4 Jahren mehr zu überzeugen – und zu begeistern! – vermag, als so mancher Scotch Whisky mit wesentlich mehr Jahren auf dem Buckel …

Douglas Laing & Co. today announces the release of their latest Scallywag ‘The Chocolate Edition’ annual bottling. As the seventh addition to the series, this expression offers up something different from the Feisty Fox Terrier.
Crafted with precision and passion, this newest expression sees Scallywag Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky enjoy a full Sherry cask maturation followed by a lengthy finishing period in Port casks. This unique combination imparts a rich and indulgent flavour profile, setting it apart as a truly exceptional release. The tasting notes detail who the Whisky reveals “layers upon layers of brown sugar, juicy forest fruits, decadent dark chocolate and a comforting warmth of baking spices.”
The black bottle and bespoke paper wrap are both a first for the Scallywag brand. This deliberate look and feel was chosen to capture the key characteristics of a classic Port bottling whilst maintain Scallywags main brand attributes.

Bei der SMWS, der Scotch Malt Whisky Society, begeht man den International Women’s Day 2024, der heute, am 8. März stattfindet, mit einer besonderen Aktion: Ein Tasting-Panel, das nur mit Frauen besetzt war, hat in einer Blindverkostung fünf Whiskys ausgesucht, die nun als Sonderabfüllungen für Mitglieder der SMWS zu haben sind.

ALL-WOMEN TASTING PANEL SELECTS SPECIAL WHISKIES AS GLOBAL WHISKY CLUB CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has released five special bottlings from all-women Tasting Panel and will donate 5% of profits to the OurWhisky Foundation
As part of its celebrations for International Women’s Day 2024, global whisky club The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) is releasing five special-edition single cask whiskies selected by an all-women Tasting Panel.

The SMWS, which was founded in Leith, Edinburgh in 1983 and now has over 41,000 members worldwide, has announced that 5% of the profits from the total sale of the five bottles will be donated to the OurWhisky Foundation, a non-profit organisation that seeks to support and empower women in the global whisky industry.
The all-women Tasting Panel was hosted at the Society’s headquarters at The Vaults in Leith, Edinburgh, to mark International Women’s Day 2023. The SMWS has a unique whisky selection process, in which members of the Tasting Panel are kept anonymous, and the origin of the whiskies – which are bottled at cask-strength and hand-picked from over 140 distilleries in Scotland and beyond – are not disclosed. Each member of the Tasting Panel had to have been recommended by an existing member and have passed the necessary sensory evaluation test.
Each of the five whiskies has a quirky name chosen by the expert Tasting Panel. The sweet, fruity and mellow “A Toffee-Coated Hay Bale” and the peated “Hebridean Hamper” are for international release, the old and dignified “Liquid Riches” and the rich “A Humble Mountain Feast” for UK & EU only, and the spicy and sweet “Christmas on The Beach” is limited to Members’ Rooms release. The UK & EU release bottles will be available to buy online and in UK Members’ Rooms from 8th of March.

With tasting notes ranging from orange peel and freshly sprung wildflowers to new trainers and chicken chow mein, the whiskies fall into a wide variety of flavour profiles, each offering a unique sensory experience.
Founded in 2018 as a movement to champion inclusion and diversity in the whisky industry, the OurWhisky Foundation was reestablished as a non-profit organisation in March 2022. It offers qualifications and internship schemes as well as a mentorship programme and various workshops, all of which are free resources designed to help women progress within the male-dominated whisky industry.
Founder and CEO Becky Paskin said:
“As a non-profit, we rely on support from the whisky industry to help us achieve our objectives of recognising, supporting and empowering women in whisky. It’s so important that whisky organisations invest in women working in whisky, and this project is a perfect example of that.
“Hosting an all-women tasting panel is a great way to facilitate conversation and challenge the outdated and gendered image of the whisky industry that remains prevalent today. Anyone who tries these exceptional whiskies will be left in no doubt about the importance of highlighting women in whisky!”
The OurWhisky Foundation is partnering with Whisky Auctioneer, the global market leader on the buying and selling of whisky and spirits at auction, to launch the Demeter Collection, the world’s first auction of whiskies celebrating female achievement. The auction will be hosted from the 29th of March to the 8th of April this year, coinciding with Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day. SMWS’s Cask no. 44.179 Christmas on the Beach will be included at the auction.
Julie Roberts, Brand Innovation Manager at the SMWS, was one of 50 women to take place in the OurWhisky Foundation Mentorship and Coaching Programme of 2023, and describes the mentorship, workshops, and networking opportunities as a “pivotal chapter” in her career.
She said:
“Our all-women Tasting Panel last year was a huge success, and this special collection of whiskies is a real testament to that. The five exemplary whiskies selected during the tasting are a celebration of women in whisky, and we are proud to contribute a percentage of the sales of the bottles to the OurWhisky Foundation, a brilliant organisation that is helping to pave the way in encouraging women into the whisky industry.
“Women have always played a key role in the evolution of the Society; from our first managing director Anne Dana driving early membership uptake in the 1980s and establishing the first tasting room when the Society was in its infancy, to our growing number of women members, and the many women across our venues, international branches and teams.
“With that in mind, we encourage everyone to join us in raising a dram to women in whisky this International Women’s Day!”
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society is holding several International Women’s Day events in their Glasgow and Edinburgh venues, each celebrating the women of the Society with a five-dram tasting of the new special bottlings led by five women who are long-standing and passionate Society members.
The first event took place at The Vaults in Leith on the 7th of March, and further events take place on 8th of March, with tickets available for purchase here: Bath Street and Queen Street.

Nicht ganz unerwartet fällt eine Personalie bei Compass Box aus, die nach dem Abgang von Gründer John Glaser gefällt werden musste: James Saxon, schon bereits seit 2019 bei Compass Box als Whisky Master tätig, wird nun die Lead-Rolle beim unabhängigen Blender übernehmen.
Auf sein Konto gehen bereits einige Abfüllungen, wie der Flaming Heart Ausgabe 2022, der No Name, No. 3, Vellichor, und die vier Extinct Blends.
Saxon, der seinen ersten Blend von Compass Box 2011 bei einem Tasting der SMWS mit John Glaser erlebte, freut sich natürlich auf seine neue Verantwortung ab April:
“It’s not just a role, it’s a passion, and I could not be prouder to play such an influential role for this extraordinary brand, to collaborate with a highly talented and creative team, and to further expand the global whisky conversation.”
Heute steht der vierte und letzte Teil des Arran-Marathons bei Serge Valentin auf dem Plan – sieben weitere Abfüllungen, direkt aus der Destillerie und von unabhängigen Bottlern, und diesmal können alle Whiskys gute bis sehr gute Wertungen erzielen.
32 Bottlings waren es insgesamt, und Serge meint abschließend, dass nicht alle Fasstypen für Arran geeignet wären (aber das träfe auf vier von fünf Speyside-Brennereien ebenfalls zu), man aber das in der Destillerie sehr gut durch geschickte Fassauswahl und vor allem längere Reifezeiten umgehe.

Die limitierte Serie mit den liebevollen und zugleich augenzwinkernden Motiven ist eine besondere Hommage an die Tierwelt Schottlands und den einzigartigen Charakter des schottischen Nationalgetränks. Lanas handgezeichnete Bilder und die Single Malt Scotch Whiskys aus dem Hause THE CASKHOUND ergänzen sich dabei erneut perfekt – und werden Whiskygenießern, Tierfreunden & Schottlandfans gleichermaßen ein Lächeln auf Gesicht und Gaumen zaubern!
Torfig, rauchig, würzig, mehr: ein klassischer Staoisha mit feinfruchtigen Wein-Akzenten
Der 2013er Bunnahabhain Staoisha bringt eine reizvolle Komposition aus kräftigen Torfaromen, Honigsüße, Lagerfeuerrauch und feiner Fruchtigkeit ins Glas. Von einer samtigen Welle aus würzigem Torfrauch umschmeichelt, präsentieren sich zunächst eine deutliche Honigsüße, Vanille, Pfeffer und rauchiges Früchtemüsli. Trockenobst, Gewürze, feine Fruchtnoten sowie salzige Schokolade machen das Aromen-Ensemble perfekt. Einen bedeutenden Anteil diesee Vielschichtigkeit verdankt der Tropfen seiner 5-monatigen Nachreifung im edlen Malaga Wine Cask, die die klassische Aromatik des Staoisha mit feinfruchtiger Würze delikat abrundet. Die Fassstärke von kraftvollen 57,2 % spendiert dem Staoisha Intensität und Tiefe, ein paar Tropfen Wasser tun ihm aber durchaus gut.

Schlag auf Schlag geht es gegenwärtig beim Importeur Whiskymax aus Mainhausen: Nachdem kürzlich die eigene Single-Cask-Serie der Spirit & Cask-Range mit der 2014 destillierten Abfüllung der Brennerei Braeval (Reifung in einem First Fill Oloroso- und Finish in einem Barrique-Fass) Zuwachs erhielt, freut sich der Importeur nun, ein weiteres Single-Cask-Mitglied der Spirit & Cask-Range vorzustellen– nämlich einen 10 Jahre alten und stark getorften Whisky aus Islays „Working-Horse“ der Brennereien mit nicht nur einer Besonderheit:
Der im Oktober 2012 destillierte und im November 2023 abgefüllte Caol Ila reifte die volle Zeit in einem Fass der 2008 in Chicago gegründeten Koval Distillery. Bekannt wurde die US-amerikanische Brennerei durch ihre Vielzahl an Whiskey-, Gin- und Spirituosenspezialitäten, die mit einzigartigem Bio-Getreide und der charakteristischen „Heart Cut“-Methode hergestellt werden, wobei nur Destillate von höchster Qualität verwendet werden – nicht umsonst wurde die Brennerei mit über 100 internationalen Preisen ausgezeichnet. So entstand eine besondere – und wenn nicht gar einzigartige – Verbindung zwischen dem stark getorften Caol Ila-Spirit und dem Chicagoer Whiskyfass, die mit 58,8% in Fassstärke ohne Farbstoff oder Kältefiltration abgefüllt wurde und auf 129 Flaschen limitiert ist.

Hamburg, 7. März 2024 – Mit JACK DANIEL’S Bonded Rye – dem ersten Rye Whiskey aus der Jack Daniel Distillery mit der Bezeichnung Bottled-in-Bond – stellt Brown-Forman ein neues Mitglied der vor rund zwei Jahren in Deutschland gelaunchten Bonded Serie vor. Diese präsentiert eine Auswahl innovativer Abfüllungen, die das Erbe der Whiskeyherstellung der über 150 Jahre alten Destillerie ehren.
JACK DANIEL‘S Bonded Rye ist ein Tennessee Rye Whiskey, der mit einem Alkoholgehalt von 50% Vol. in Flaschen abgefüllt wird. Gemäß dem Bottled-in-Bond Act von 1897 muss ein sogenannter Bonded Whiskey von einem einzigen Brenner während einer einzigen Saison destilliert werden, mindestens vier Jahre lang in einem staatlichen Zolllager reifen und mit 100 Proof (50% Vol.) abgefüllt werden.

JACK DANIEL‘S Bonded Rye wird aus 70% Roggen, 18% Mais und 12% gemälzter Gerste hergestellt und durchläuft vor der Reifung in neuen, handgefertigten Fässern aus amerikanischer Weißeiche die Filterung durch Holzkohle, das sogenannte Charcoal Mellowing. Bonded Rye offenbart Noten von getrockneten Früchten, einen anhaltenden Hauch von Toffee und einen komplexen und ausgewogenen Geschmack mit einem würzigen Roggen-Abgang.
Die Flasche ist vom Originaldesign der JACK DANIEL‘S Tennessee Whiskey Flasche aus dem Jahr 1895 inspiriert.

The Lakes Distillery veröffentlicht zum Internationalen Frauentag die Limited Edition Isadora in ihrer Whiskymaker’s Editions. Die Abfüllung ist nach der Pionierin des zeitgenössischen Tanzes, Isadora Duncan, benannt. Nur 900 einzeln nummerierte Flaschen sind erhältlich, abgefüllt ist The Lakes Whiskymaker’s Edition Isadora mit 53 Vol. %.
Zusätzlich veranstaltet The Lakes Distillery eine Wohltätigkeitsverlosung zugunsten der OurWhisky Foundation. Whisky collectors are being given the chance to get their hands on a rare bottle of 31-Year-Old Blended Scotch, to raise money for OurWhisky Foundation
House of Hazelwood is today unveiling a rare one-off bottling named The Long View, a 31-Year-Old Blended Scotch Whisky specially created as part of the OurWhisky Foundation’s inaugural auction – The Demeter Collection.
OurWhisky Foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to recognize, support, and empower women working in the whisky industry around the world. Created by Blender Eilidh Muir, The Long View is a tribute to the women of Hazelwood and their influence across the family stocks. Whisky Auctioneer will auction this one of one bottling to raise money for the Foundation.

Drawing on stock built up over the generations, this unique blend celebrates the work of three remarkable women at the heart of the House of Hazelwood story with a whisky that is at once decadently rich and elegantly layered. A tribute to patience and perseverance and a reminder that, sometimes, the most important things in life take time to emerge.
These three women are Janet Sheed-Roberts, Eilidh Muir and Kirsten Grant-Meikle. Janet Sheed-Roberts, granddaughter of William Grant, lived at Hazelwood House and was Scotland’s oldest person when she died at the age of 110 years old. Known as ‘Wee Janie’ she was the matriarch of the family, having been granddaughter, daughter, sister, wife, aunt and great aunt to successive Chairmen and Managing Directors of the business for over a century.
For almost 100 years, the House of Hazelwood inventory has sat at the centre of a pioneering ethos, each and every whisky maker charged with the task to challenge convention and break boundaries. Today, blender Eilidh Muir sits as a custodian of our whisky, employing and advancing the techniques handed down through the decades to create whiskies unbridled in character.
Commenting on the whisky, Eilidh, said:
“At the heart of this blended whisky is a parcel of stock originally blended to mark Janet Sheed-Roberts’s milestone birthday and bottled for employees and family only. I have since added two lovely parcels of grain whisky, one of which was matured in bourbon casks and the other finished in sherry wood, creating a fruity blend with great depth and oaky character with hints of spice and sherbet.”
Kirsten Grant-Meikle, a fifth-generation family descendant of William Grant is continuing the family legacy of laying down stock for future generations to enjoy and has fond memories of spending summers at Hazelwood House with ‘Wee Janie.’ Commenting on the whisky and why she wants to support this inaugural auction, Kirsten, said:
“The Long View beautifully encapsulates this tradition enabling us to support the OurWhisky Foundation on its journey towards gender equality. Janet Sheed-Roberts was a truly inspiring lady, the only female in her class studying Law at Edinburgh University, she was always a believer in gender equality and living to 110 she certainly will have had a long view of the business and how gender roles evolved over time.”
The Long View will be auctioned by Whisky Auctioneer as part of the OurWhisky Foundation’s The Demeter Collection from 29th March to 8th April. To place a bid, interested parties must register with Whisky Auctioneer.

The Long View, 31-Year-Old Blended Scotch Whisky, 1 bottle, 49.2% ABV
Nose: Ripe red berries, creamy vanilla, and toasted oak. A few drops of water release another wave of toffee sweetness, fresh custard tart and a hint of ground cinnamon.
Taste: Silky smooth with a rich and intensely sweet oakiness. Over three decades of maturation in American oak has created an elegantly layered whisky with soft spice, honey and tangy sherbet all enveloped in a syrupy sweetness.
Finish: Long lasting sweet oak.
About House of Hazelwood
For almost one hundred years, generations of the Gordon family have carefully laid down stocks of whisky for special occasions and personal consumption. This rare collection has become known as House of Hazelwood, after the family’s Dufftown home – Hazelwood House.
Today, the House of Hazelwood collection has grown to become the greatest inventory of aged Scotch whisky held anywhere in the world. Spanning seven decades and every corner of Scotland, the diverse whiskies held in cask tell stories of remarkable places, lost ways of working, first casks, last casks, the ambitions, and achievements of several lifetimes – none of which will be repeated.
The House of Hazelwood inventory is held in several carefully selected warehouses across Scotland, with fresh stocks laid down each year. Prior to bottling, a small proportion of the stocks are held in traditional dunnage warehousing near Dufftown in Speyside, from where they are carefully monitored and sampled ahead of release.
Janet Sheed-Roberts was born in the Cabrach in Moray in the summer of 1901. She was the last surviving granddaughter of William Grant and Scotland’s oldest person when she died at the age of 110 years old. Known as ‘Wee Janie’ she was the matriarch of the family, having been granddaughter, daughter, sister, wife, aunt and great aunt to successive Chairmen and Managing Directors of the business for over a century. During her rich and vibrant life, Janet Sheed-Roberts lived in Hazelwood House, close to Dufftown, Scotland. She was a pioneering woman in her own right having been the only female in her class when she studied Law at Edinburgh University. It was while working as a lawyer at the firm McGrigor Donald that she met and married Eric Roberts who went on to become a director and then Chairman at William Grant & Son. It was from Hazelwood House that she reveled in learning and progress, spending considerable time after her studies travelling the world, attending shows, events and company ceremonies.
About Kirsten Grant-Meikle
Fifth generation descendant of the William Grant & Sons family, Kirsten joined the family business in 2011. After graduating in business, she worked in the hospitality industry holding a manager’s position at Ecco Vino in Edinburgh, which is where she developed her love for wine. Her first job in the drinks industry was with the wholesaler Matthew Clark, as a sales rep working across beer, wine, spirits and soft drinks, rising to become their Wine Range Controller during her seven-year tenure. During this period, she also began spending time and learning from her uncle Charles Gordon, William Grant & Sons’ late chairman who eventually asked her to join the family firm. Kirsten, who spent many summers and family gatherings at Hazelwood House, has been involved in House of Hazelwood from its inception.
About Eilidh Muir
Eilidh Muir grew up in Ayrshire and studied Chemical Engineering at Edinburgh University. It was a chance visit during her studies to a distillery that sparked her interest in whisky. Following a number of placements in the business Eilidh settled into a role in the Blending team where she is now playing an integral role as a blender for House of Hazelwood. As well as working on the core collections she recently created The Accelerator & The Brake in partnership with world-renowned whisky writer Dave Broom. The OurWhisky Foundation is the world’s first non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting, recognising and empowering professional women in whisky across the globe, while advocating for a more inclusive and diverse industry. Founded in 2022 by drinks journalist Becky Paskin, the UK-based organisation works with the global drinks industry to provide diversity and inclusion consultancy, as well as surveys, reports, events and initiatives that inspire change.
Its ground-breaking mentorship programme, which pairs mentees with some of the biggest names in whisky while providing free workshops and networking opportunities, has so far guided 175 women and non-binary individuals toward reaching their goals, with many securing new jobs and promotions as a result.
In 2023 the Foundation introduced the Modern Face of Whisky stock image library, an evolving, free-to-use collection of professional photography enabling the media and wider industry to more accurately represent the diversity of today’s whisky drinker beyond the masculine stereotype. Within its first eight months, the library received 10 million views and 100,000 downloads with the images featured across global print and digital media.
In the same year, the Foundation surveyed over 600 women for its Do You Even Like Whisky? report – the world’s first survey of women in whisky, which revealed the extent of sexism and unconscious bias prevalent in the industry. The report has since led to policy changes within many whisky organisations.
The OurWhisky Foundation is delighted to introduce the Demeter Collection, the world’s first auction of whiskies celebrating female achievement, held in partnership with Whisky Auctioneer.
Named after the Greek goddess of grain, the Demeter Collection will highlight unique and exquisite whiskies crafted and inspired by some of the industry’s most talented women, maintaining a particular focus on the compelling stories of those involved in their creation. The inaugural auction will be hosted 29 March to 8 April 2024, coinciding with Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, as well as the OurWhisky Foundation’s second anniversary. The carefully curated Collection will be held every two years with all proceeds donated to the OurWhisky Foundation.
Demeter (Duh-mee-tuh) was the Greek goddess of the harvest and agriculture, presiding over crops, grains and the fertility of the earth. Known as the ‘good goddess’, she gifted humankind with the knowledge to grow and harvest their own crops. Such was her deep connection to the planet that she is often likened to Gaia, while some claim her name translates to ‘Mother Earth’.
According to legend, her daughter Persephone was abducted and held hostage in the underworld by Demeter’s brother, Hades. Racked with grief, Demeter plunged the world into a deep famine as she searched far and wide for her lost daughter. Ultimately Hades allowed Persephone to return to the surface for just eight months a year. It was only during this time that Demeter allowed crops to grow once more, thereby creating the seasons, a continuous evolution of time that symbolises the eternal cycle of life and passing of knowledge from generation to generation.
Despite her important role within Greek mythology, Demeter remains one of the lesser-known of the Olympians, her story largely untold in popular culture. Yet her heroic tale of overcoming obstacles to support her daughter, all while sharing her knowledge and wisdom with others, embodies many similar values as the OurWhisky Foundation. Just like Demeter’s sidelining in pop culture, women’s contributions to whisky have been vastly under-recognised. Through the Demeter Collection we want to honour the grain goddess and tell the untold stories of women in whisky, while raising much-needed funds to enable the OurWhisky Foundation to support, recognise and empower future generations of women in the industry.

Schritt für Schritt kommt der Cabrach Trust seinem Ziel näher, eine Whisky-Brennerei in Cabrach am südlichen Rand von Moray zu betreibenen. Bereits seit dem September 2017 liegt eine Baugenehmigung für The Cabrach Distillery vor. Nun konnte der Trust sich nochmals bis zu 500,000 für sein Projekt sichern. Die jüngste Investition kommt von Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), einer schottischen Regierungsbehörde. Außerdem konnten noch £361,767 aus dem Just Transition Fund der Regierung gesichert werden.
Das Projekt hatte im Jahr 2021 bereits Mittel in Höhe von £3.5 Millionen erhalten. Hinzu kamen 2018 noch £310,000 von der William Grant Foundation, der Foundation Scotland, der Reekimlane Foundation und einem anonymen Spender.
Cabrach gilt als einer der Geburtsorte der schottischen Whiskyindustrie und war in vergangenen Zeiten für illegale Destillierapparate und Schmuggel bekannt. Der Cabrach Trustmöchte Whisky-Destillation (jetzt legal) wieder zurück nach Crabach bringen. Im April 2022 begannen die umfangreichen Bauarbeiten für das Projekt. Der Fahrplan sieht eine Inbetriebnahme der Brennerei in diesem Jahr vor.
Der unabhängiger Abfüller Malts of Scotland veröffentlicht wieder einige neue Abfüllungen. Die neuen Bottlings sind ab dem 14.3.2024 im Malts of Scotland Warehouseshop in Paderborn sowie im Handel erhältlich. Es geht auch heute weiter mit einer Verkostung von Whiskys von Isle of Arran aus der Lochranza Distillery. Erneut finden wir neun Abfüllungen in dieser Session, und erneut finden wir fast ausnahmslos gute und sehr gute Punktezahlen. Fast ausnahmslos: Denn nachdem die Fourth Edition bereits gestern schmal bewertet wurde, kann auch die Eighth Edition des Machrie Moor Serge Valentin nicht recht begeistern.
