A wie Ardbeg – A wie Auftakt: Wir starten unsere Jubiläumsreihe
50 Jahre Kirsch Import – das schreit nach großartigen Fässern. Wir starten unsere Jubiläumsreihe deshalb genau so, wie man es von uns erwarten darf: mit einer Abfüllung, die für sich spricht.
Den Auftakt macht der Ardbeg 2008/2025 aus Fass Nr. 385. Destilliert im Jahr 2008 auf der Isle of Islay und von Master-Blender-Legende Dr. Bill Lumsden persönlich ausgewählt, steht das Single Cask beispielhaft für ehrlichen Charakter, stimmige Qualität, eine gesunde Prise Mut – und damit auch ein bisschen für Kirsch Import selbst.
Das 17-jährige Einzelfass stammt aus einer Reihe von Experimenten mit der Vollreifung in französischer Eiche (Quercus Robur). Die Kombination aus First Fill French Oak und klassischem Ardbeg-Profil liefert ein spannendes Wechselspiel: trockene Tannine, aromatischer Holzrauch und feuchte Erde, ergänzt durch überraschende Noten von Bratapfel und Rosinenbrot. Am kräftigen Gaumen entfalten sich Chicorée-Kaffee und eine angenehm pfeffrige Tiefe. Der Nachklang? Bleibt. Und zwar mit dunkler Schokolade und Gewürzen.Nur 81 Flaschen setzen den ersten Meilenstein unserer Jubiläumsreihe – in Fassstärke, ungefärbt und nicht kühlfiltriert.

ARDBEG DAY DEUTSCHLAND: TICKETVERKAUF GESTARTET
München 23. April 2026. Der Ardbeg Day 2026 steht ganz im Zeichen zweier Inseln: Sizilien mit seinem unbeschwerten Dolce Vita und dem glamourösen Flair des 1960er-Jahres-Kino – und Islay mit seiner rauen torfigen Seite. Am 30. Mai 2026 trifft sich die Ardbeg-Community in der Mitte: der Ardbeg Day kehrt nach Deutschland zurück. Im Gutshof Unterbessenbach bei Aschaffenburg wird es viel Live-Musik, Unterhaltung und jede Menge verschiedener Ardbeg-Abfüllungen geben. Höhepunkt ist die gemeinsame Verkostung des diesjährigen Ardbeg Day Release Ardbeg Dolce. Gereift in raren Marsala-Dolce-Fässern, zeigt er eine spannende Fusion aus sizilianischer Süße mit rauchigem Islay-Torf. Ein Shuttle-Service vom Hauptbahnhof Aschaffenburg zum Gutshof und zurück ist eingerichtet.

A Different World – 1977 Single Grain Scotch Whisky – tells the story of a different era when Girvan was still using maize and distilling on traditional apparatus, leading to the emergence of remarkable flavours that are no longer seen from grain whiskies today. Distilled on Girvan’s original ‘one apps’ still this remarkable Single Grain reveals a distinctive thyme character unlike anything we have ever seen before derived from an unusual off-take point. After 48 years in a first-fill sherry butt, its pronounced green notes have matured into an elegant, herbaceous complexity that is as unexpected as it is rewarding.
Tasting Notes:
The nose is greeted by a wonderfully subtle sherry character, notes of thyme and a pleasing sherbet sweetness developing with a drop of water. The palate is rich, oaky, and delicately spiced with yet more of that thyme character meandering slowly into notes of well steeped herbal tea on the aftertaste. A true one of a kind from an era of distillation that will never be seen again.
The Silent Partner – 47-Year-Old Blended Scotch Whisky – The first peated Blended Scotch offered by House of Hazelwood, this blend showcases a subtle mastery, by combining sweet Lowland grain whisky with Highland malts matured in American and European oak. A whisper of peat from a Highland distillery still using traditional methods in the 1970s lends lingering depth and intrigue, with the smoke used almost as a seasoning by the blending team.
Tasting Notes:
Beautifully delicate and evocative on first inspection with a heather blossom sweetness and a fragrant bouquet of dried summer flowers greeting the nose. The elegant floral character continues on the palate with subtle perfumed notes paired alongside a gentle whisper of smoke moving towards a lasting sweetness on the finish.
A Fond Farewell – 46-Year-Old Blended Malt Scotch Whisky – Drawn exclusively from the family’s rare ‘Hogmanay casks’ — filled each New Year’s Eve in the 1970s to mark the passing of the year — this whisky offers a richly spiced, warming profile that beautifully encapsulates the passing of time and the spirit of celebration. The tradition of filling casks on Hogmanay has now sadly ceased, making this release not only a remarkable liquid but also a memory of past ways of working.
Tasting Notes:
The nose is syrupy and complex, carrying a sticky jam quality with a sprinkle of brown sugar, wafts of treacle scone, Dundee cake and a hint of spiced ginger wine. The festive decadence continues on the palate with an oaky quality opening up, that wonderful, spiced character continuing to deepen and a perfectly poised balance of sweetness, oak and spice emerging.
An Organised Whole – 45-Year-Old Blended Malt Whisky – Crafted from varying Highland distillery profiles and matured in both hogsheads and sherry butts, this malt is a showcase for the layers of complexity that can be delivered through the artistry of blending. It delivers an interplay of rich sherried depth and soft American oak sweetness — a harmony that’s truly greater than the sum of its parts.
Tasting Notes:
The nose is wonderfully rich, generous, and complex with inviting notes of muscovado sugar and soft caramel. This substantial, lavish character continues into the palate with a mouth-coating, oily texture containing a lively balance of sherbet and oak tannins. SingleCask Nation wurde 2011 von den Keepers of the Quaich Joshua Hatton and Jason Johnstone-Yellin in den USA gegründet und entstand aus einem Club von Whisky Enthusiasten, der sich gegründet hatte, um seltene und besondere Single Cask Whiskys für ihre Gemeinschaft abzufüllen.

Mit seiner finch Whiskydestillerie auf der Schwäbischen Alb gestaltet Hans-Gerhard Fink die Geschichte des deutschen Whiskys entscheidend mit, von den Anfängen der Brennerei zur Jahrtausendwende bis heute.
Der vor Energie sprühende Landwirt lebt sein Credo in der Produktion: Whisky aus eigenem Anbau (vom Feld ins Glas) und strikt handwerklich sowie so nachhaltig wie möglich gefertigt. Über 6000 Fässer lagern momentan sowohl in Lagerhäusern der Landwirtschaft als auch in adaptierten ehemaligen Munitionsbunkern der französischen Armee (Fink hat die Bunkerlagerung bereits vor St. Kilian eingeführt), und zwar in vielen verschiedenen Fassarten – vom Virgin Oak über die klassischen Barrels, Weinfässer, Fässer, die zuvor fortifizierte Weine enthielten (darunter auch alte PX-Fässer, die nicht „prepared“, sondern an die 50 Jahre mit Pedro Ximenez Sherry belegt waren) bis hin zu riesigen Gordas aus der Portwein-Produktion.
Dabei produziert Hans-Gerhard Fink nicht nur Single Malt, sondern auch Whisky aus anderen Getreidesorten wie zum Beispiel eine der ältesten kultivierten Getreidearten, Emmer. Auf der von ihm gemeinsam mit der Firma Carl (einen Bericht von dort finden Sie hier) konzipierten Brennanlage verwirklicht er seine Rezepturen – und die Ergebnisse können sich sehen bzw. schmecken lassen.

Flott voran geht es bei der englischen Witchmark Distillery, die in Wiltshire, genauer gesagt in Fonthill Bishop, unweit von Salisbury, beheimatet ist. Nachdem man im Vorjahr mit der Produktion begann, hat man jetzt bereits Fass #1000 befüllt. Bis zum Launch des ersten eigenen Whiskys, der im Jahr 2027 ansteht, will man bereits 4000 Fässer befüllt haben.
Eddie Large, der Mitbegründer und wirtschaftliche Direktor der Brennerei, sagt zu diesem Meilenstein:
“Reaching our 1,000th cask is a huge milestone, but for me it’s not really about the cask itself, it’s about the people who have made it happen.
“We’ve built a young, diverse and talented team with members hailing from all around the world, from India to Poland, England to New Zealand, each bringing their own passion and expertise to the distillery floor to produce quality English whisky.
“We’ve been filling casks for the past 18 months, but the journey really started back in 2020 when we first set out to create an English whisky. So, this moment represents years of work, planning and belief, and we’re only just getting started.”
Laut dem Bericht in The Spirits Business hat man sich bei der Fassauswahl stark diversifiziert und befüllt neben den klassischen Fässern auch solche, die zuvor mit Tawny Port, Madeira, Rum und Islay-Whisky befüllt waren.
Die Witchmark Distillery ist eine aus der wachsenden Zahl von Brennereien, die man unter dem Begriff „Farm Distillery“ zusammenfasst, da man dort nur auf eigenem Grund und Boden gewachsenes Getreide verwendet (in Deutschland wären das zum Beispiel unter anderem die Hinrichsen’s Farm Distillery oder die finch Distillery, in Dänemark die THY Whisky Distillery). Man destilliert mit einer 5000 Liter Wash still und einer 3200 Liter Spirit Still.
Die zweite Ausgabe des Maker’s Mark Star Hill Farm Whisky kommt zwar immer noch nicht nach Deutschland, aber zumindest im Duty Free wird man endlich die Möglichkeit haben, den ersten Weizenwhisky der Destillerie seit 70 Jahren zu erhalten (zur Vorstellung der ersten Ausgabe waren wir im letzten Jahr vor Ort, unseren Bericht sehen Sie hier). Zusätzlich zum Duty Free und natürlich zum Release in den USA gibt es den Star Hill Farm Whisky 2026 auch in Japan, UK und Australien.

Star Hill Farm 2026 is crafted from two mash bills: one composed entirely of malted wheat, and another of 70% wheat and 30% malted barley. The final blend—27% wheat, 62% malted wheat and 11% malted barley—delivers a darker, more layered aromatic profile, with a rounder structure and amplified fruit notes compared to that of 2025.

Bottled at 58.2% ABV (116.4 proof), Star Hill Farm Whisky 2026 will be available for a suggested retail price of $100 USD. In the United States, the limited release will be available at select retailers nationwide and at the Maker’s Mark Distillery with a bookable experience that includes a guided tour of Star Hill Farm paired with cocktails highlighting flavor from nature.

Spring sees Tomintoul Distillery reopen with rare visitor-only releases
Tomintoul Distillery has reopened its doors for the 2026 season, inviting visitors back to the heart of the Cairngorms National Park to experience the craft, heritage and warm hospitality behind its award-winning single malt.
Closed to the public over the winter months, the Speyside distillery now resumes its programme of guided tours, offering whisky lovers the chance to step behind the scenes and experience production in one of Scotland’s most quietly distinctive distilleries.
Set against the rugged landscape of the Cairngorms, Tomintoul has been producing single malt whisky since 1965, drawing on traditional methods that have remained largely unchanged for generations.
Guests can now return to explore behind the scenes of the production areas, meet the team and enjoy guided tastings that bring Tomintoul’s story to life – with the reopening arriving just ahead of the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, when the region welcomes whisky enthusiasts from around the world.
To mark the reopening, Tomintoul has also unveiled two new limited-edition expressions, available exclusively to those visiting the distillery.
Tomintoul 11 Year Old, limited to just 1,009 bottles and priced at £79, showcases the carefully balanced marriage of Oloroso sherry and American oak casks, carefully selected for its depth and gentle complexity.
Alongside it, the Sauternes Barrique Single Cask – a rare release of only 318 individually numbered bottles priced at £225 – brings a rich, fruit-led profile, shaped by its distinctive cask influence while retaining Tomintoul’s signature smooth character.

Brave New Spirits, die Eigner der Witchburn Distillery, die laut der untenstehenden Pressemitteilung noch in diesem Jahr die Produktion im Campbeltown aufnehmen soll, haben ein Beteiligungsprogramm an der Brennerei am ehemaligen Nato-Gelände RAF Machrihanish in Witchburn aufgelegt. Man sucht 15-20 Partner, die für die Summe von 300.000 Pfund jeweils 1% des Unternehmens erhalten würden, sowie einen Anteil der dort produzierten Fässer. Nach fünf Jahren soll man den Anteil für 400.000 Pfund an die Brennerei zurückverkaufen können – oder ihn weiter behalten.

Witchburn Distillery Announces Equity Programme as Construction Nears Completion
Glasgow / Campbeltown. 22/04/2026. The company behind the Campbeltown region’s newest Whisky Distillery, Witchburn, have announced details of an innovative programme, in which a limited number of equity packages will be made available as the distillery commences production.
The distillery is the brainchild of the founders of successful independent whisky bottler Brave New Spirits, based in Glasgow and now operating in over 40 countries was recently named Scotland’s Independent Bottler Of The Year at Whisky Magazine’s Icons of Whisky Awards.
Witchburn Distillery is first new distillery to be built in the legendary Campbeltown region for many decades. Built on the site of the former NATO & US Navy SEALs base at RAF Machrihanish, Witchburn will operate entirely fossil fuel-free, making it one of the world’s most sustainable distilleries. Following planning permission being granted in 2023, the distillery hardware has now been delivered and the building modifications have started, which will allow distillation to commence within the next few months.
Witchburn has been designed to enable multiple distilling styles, including the recreation of traditional, higher temperature production, most often associated with “direct-fire” distilliation. The distillery will produce unpeated, lightly peated and heavily peated spirit, to provide a genuine variety spirit styles.
Ahead of the final phase of construction, the company are now seeking 15 up to 20 partners to be involved in the launch and initial production. In return for a £300,000 commitment, investors will receive a 1% equity share in the distillery. Each partner will also receive an annual allocation of strictly limited casks of the high-temperature whisky, and a portfolio of additional exclusive privileges.
Five years from the start of the production, investors will have the opportunity to sell their stake back to the distillery for £400,000, or to stay on as partners for a longer period.
Additional benefits for these investors include multiple cases of exclusive Founders bottlings, reserved strictly for shareholders. Founders will also be able to visit the distillery for exclusive events throughout the year, and have their names recorded on a Founder’s wall at Witchburn, forever becoming a part of distillery history.

About Brave New Spirits
Brave New Spirits was founded in 2020 by Adam Hochul C Alex Springensguth. They operate their own bonded warehouse and bottling hall in Glasgow, along with a second warehouse in Campbeltown.
They produce a number of whisky brands, including the Cask Masters, WhiskyHeroes, and Whisky of Voodoo ranges, along with high quality volume single malts and blends, such as The Highland Shepherd and Lighthouse.

Mit einem 25 Jahre alten Allt-A-Bhainne läutet der Premium-Whiskyhändler whic das nächste Kapitel seiner begehrten Old Gods Serie in Kooperation mit Traditionsabfüller Signatory ein. Der Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky bildet unter dem Titel Thor’s Trials I – Drinking the Sea den luxuriösen Auftakt einer neuen dreiteiligen Reihe. Nach einem ganzen Vierteljahrhundert Reifezeit in einem einzigen Sherry Butt präsentiert sich diese Abfüllung als tiefdunkles, aromatisches Monument in Fassstärke.
Die neue Trilogie widmet sich den mythischen Prüfungen des Donnergottes Thor. Der Legende nach wurde Thor von den Riesen von Utgard zum Trinkwettstreit herausgefordert. Sein Horn – scheinbar ein gewöhnliches Gefäß – reichte heimlich bis ins Meer. Mit drei gewaltigen Zügen senkte er den Ozean und schuf die Gezeiten.
Diese unbändige Urkraft spiegelt sich im Charakter des intensiv gereiften Allt-A-Bhainne wider. Schon optisch besticht der Whisky durch eine rein natürliche, dunkle Melassefarbe, die perfekt mit den glänzenden Kupferelementen des detailreichen Etikettendesigns harmoniert.
In der Nase entfaltet der Single Malt ein wuchtiges und komplexes Profil. Düfte von süßen Trockenfrüchten, roten Äpfeln und gebrannten Mandeln treffen auf gesetzte Aromen von altem Zedernholz, Möbelpolitur und dickflüssigem Balsamico. Subtile Noten von Edelbitterschokolade und feiner Tabakasche verleihen dem Bouquet eine bemerkenswerte Tiefe.
Am Gaumen zeigt sich der Whisky intensiv und cremig-süß. Assoziationen von Apfelkuchen, dunklem Pflaumenkompott und karamellisiertem Zucker gehen zügig in eine elegante Eichenwürze über, die von Espresso, dunklen Früchten und einem Hauch Chili untermalt wird. Der langanhaltende Nachklang wird von einer würzigen Honigsüße getragen und hinterlässt Noten von schokolierten Kaffeebohnen, kandiertem Ingwer und feinem Leder.
Entstanden in Kooperation mit Signatory Vintage, wurde der im Juli 2000 destillierte Whisky unverdünnt mit kräftigen 52,4 % Vol. abgefüllt. Auf Kältefiltration und den Zusatz von Farbstoffen wurde konsequent verzichtet, um die authentische Naturgewalt dieses edlen Whiskys zu bewahren. Für diese Kreation wurde nur ein Teil des Sherry Butts #4 abgefüllt – deshalb ist die Auflage auf lediglich 298 Flaschen limitiert.

Über die Serie Old Gods
In Zusammenarbeit mit Signatory werden nur die edelsten Fässer für die Old Gods Serie auserwählt. Sie werden alle in mächtiger Fassstärke abgefüllt. Sie erzählen die Sagen um die alten Götter des hohen Nordens – Szenen, die als Illustrationen in Holzschnitt-Optik mit glänzenden Kupferveredelungen die wertigen Dekanter und Tuben zieren. Die Old Gods liefern Ihnen ein visuelles und geschmackliches Erlebnis gleichermaßen. Thor’s Trials I – Drinking the Sea
Der Riesenkönig reichte Thor ein gewaltiges Trinkhorn und behauptete, jeder wahre Krieger müsse imstande sein, es in einem einzigen Zug zu leeren. Thor trank mit der Wut eines Sturms, doch selbst nach drei gewaltigen Schlucken war die Flüssigkeit kaum gesunken. Was der Gott nicht sah: Die Spitze des Horns war tief in den Abgründen des Ozeans verankert. Obwohl es ihm nicht gelang, das Horn zu leeren, war sein gewaltiger Durst so enorm, dass er den Wasserspiegel der Weltmeere senkte und damit die allerersten Gezeiten erschuf.
Zwei Whiskys aus Mortlach, die 18 und 22 Jahre alt sind, werden heute von Serge Valentin in einer Time Warp Session verkostet. Und beide gefallen ihm sehr gut – der Mortlach 22yo in der Black Dumpy Bottle aus dem Jahr 1991 noch ein wenig besser. Gerne selbst verkosten würden wir alle wohl beide wollen, wenn man die Tasting Notes liest.
