Exclusive Elijah Craig Single Barrel Bourbon Genesis Bottling Available Starting June 13

GEORGETOWN, KY (Jun 11, 2025) – Georgetown, Kentucky, proudly launches Bourbon Genesis, a new campaign inviting bourbon enthusiasts and history lovers to discover the birthplace of America’s native spirit. This initiative places Georgetown at the heart of Kentucky’s bourbon journey, honoring its legacy as the site where Reverend Elijah Craig first distilled bourbon in 1789.

At the center of this story is Royal Spring Park, nestled in historic downtown Georgetown. Here, Elijah Craig, a fiery Baptist preacher turned pioneering distiller, used the limestone-rich spring water to create a whiskey unlike any other. That same year, Craig became the first to age whiskey in new charred oak barrels, a process that defines bourbon to this day, imparting its signature amber hue and flavors of caramel, vanilla, and spice.

“Bourbon Genesis is more than a campaign, it’s a pilgrimage to where bourbon began,”

said Lori Saunders, executive director of the Georgetown/Scott County Tourism Commission.

Georgetown continues to reflect Craig’s spirit of innovation and hospitality, offering visitors a vibrant blend of food, drink, and culture in its walkable downtown.

To kick off the campaign, a group of bourbon influencers visited Georgetown, starting with a private meeting at Local Feed with Chef Justin Thompson, before touring the Heaven Hill Bourbon Experience to select a special barrel of Elijah Craig Bourbon, which was bottled as Bourbon Genesis Single Barrel. 

This exclusive Bourbon Genesis bottle, a private barrel pick from Heaven Hill, will debut at the Founders’ Sip event hosted by Maime’s Fine Wine & Gifts in Georgetown on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. Following the release, bottles will be available for purchase at Maime’s. Jeremy Atwood, a Kentucky native and Lead Bourbon Educator at Heaven Hill, will be leading the Founders Sip event. A former non-profit leader, Jeremy holds degrees in History and Theology and now shares his deep love of bourbon and storytelling with guests from around the world. Taste, Select, Repeat members will receive the bottle in their summer subscription.

The Bourbon Genesis barrel was handpicked by a panel of esteemed bourbon voices: Orlando “OJ” Lima, Jack Beguedou, Victor Sizemore, Tom Wilmes, Seth Thompson, Jess Ann Zimlich, Jeremy Chapline, Justin Thompson, and Chad Cole. Notably, Beguedou was named Top Spirits Influencer by the American Distilling Institute in 2024.

Attendees will be among the first to experience the Founders’ Sip and can purchase one bottle of Bourbon Genesis during the event. Suggested retail pricing is $115 per 750 mL and it is 123 proof.  Tickets will be distributed first-come, first-served at the door.

Vor einem Jahr hat Whiskey House of Kentucky, eine neu errichtete Destillerie in Hardin County, Kentucky, vom Team der Bardstown Bourbon Company den Betrieb aufgenommen (wir berichteten hier darüber). Man produziert dort für andere Unternehmen, so wie MGP in Indiana.

Nun hat Buzick Construction beim Gericht in Hardin County ein Pfandrecht (das Recht, eine Immobilie bis zur Begleichung einer Schuld zu behalten) angemeldet. Dem Bauunternehmen zu Folge hat nämlich Whiskey House of Kentucky 1,653.648,79 US-Dollar Schulden für Arbeitskräfte, Materialien, Ausrüstung und Zubehör.

Der CEO von Kentucky House of Whiskey, David Mandell, nannte die Schulden bei Buzick Construction einen „kleinen Ausrutscher“, und zeigte sich optimistisch, dass sich die Sache schnell lösen lassen würde.

“Buzick Construction and the founders of Whiskey House of Kentucky have successfully worked together for more than a decade on numerous projects, including constructing our distillery at a cost of nearly US$120 million.
“We have a longstanding relationship with Buzick Construction, and we expect this minor blip on the radar to be resolved quickly.”

Allerdings ist im Gerichtsdokument auch zu lesen, dass Buzick einen zusätzlichen Vertrag mit Whiskey House of Kentucky über zusätzliche Bauarbeiten im Wert von knapp 6,3 Millionen Dollar hat und aus ihm möglicherweise berechtigt sei, ein weiteres Pfandrecht anzumelden, um diesen Betrag einzufordern.

TTB-Neuheit: Bowmore 25 Years Old mit neuer Stärke und in neuer Flaschenform

Einen interessanten Fund haben wir in der us-amerikanischen Datenbank gemacht: Eine neue Version des Bowmore 25 Years Old scheint demnach in Vorbereitung zu sein. Neu aus zweierlei Gründen: Die Schemazeichnungen deuten auf eine neue Flaschenform hin, und mit 48,8% vol. Alkoholstärke ist bislang noch kein 15 Jahre alter Bowmore in der Destillerie abgefüllt worden.

Der neue Bowmore 25 Years Old stammt aus ex-Bourbonfässern und Oloroso Sherryfässern, die aus spanischer Eiche gefertigt wurden. Mehr Infos lassen sich aus den Zeichnungen nicht gewinnen – sie sind hier zu sehen:

Wie üblich der Hinweis zu den TTB-Einträgen: Dass ein Label in der TTB-Datenbank eingetragen wurde, bedeutet nicht automatisch, dass die Abfüllung dann auch erscheinen wird. Es ist allerdings ein sehr starker Hinweis darauf.

Nach den Glentauchers-Tastings der letzten beiden Tage bewegt sich Serge nun virtuell in den Norden, zur Brennerei Glenturret. Hier verkostet er drei getorfte Abfüllungen, eine aus der Destillerie selbst, und zwei von uanbhängigen Bottlern.

Den „ersten Platz“ teilen sich dabei die beiden Unabhängigen, aber auch die Originalabfüllung aus dem Jahr 2024 kann Serge überzeugen, ist diese für ihn doch ein merkbarer Fortschritt zu jener aus 2020.

Maclean Foundation bringt Charity Bottling aus der Isle of Raasay Distillery

Nach der Adnamurchan– und der Glen Scotia-Abfüllung ist dies nun das dritte Bottling der Maclean Foundation, gegründet von Charlie Maclean und seinen Söhnen Ewan, Jamie und Lachlan Maclean (die momentan – ebenfalls für den guten Zweck der Foundation – 9000 Meilen über den Pazifik rudern): Ein fünf Jahre alter Whisky aus der Isle of Raasay Distillery, limitiert auf 246 Flaschen und exklusiv bei Royal Mile Whiskies. Dort kostet die Flasche 115 Pfund. Das Fass dafür hat Whisky-Legende Charlie Maclean selbst ausgesucht.

Der Whisky ist mit ungetorftem Spirit und Wasser aus der inseleigenen Wasserquelle „Well of the Pale Cow“ gemacht.

Charlie sagt zur Zusammenarbeit mit der Isle of Raasay Distillery:

“This partnership [with Isle of Raasay] is rooted in gratitude – to the industry that’s given me so much, and to a place with poetry and purpose in its bones.

“The island, the spirit, and the generosity of this cask reflect everything we hope to do – to connect people through whisky and turn drams into lasting positive impact.”

Und zum Geschmack:

“It’s a sensory time capsule. The smell of sphagnum moss, dry peat hags and distant sea mingling with mellow, savoury notes of the whisky. The taste is bracingly salty with a long, spicy finish to warm the heart.”

Die Maclean Foundation hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, für Menschen auf Madagaskar sauberes Trinkwasser zur Verfügung zu stellen – und zwar durch das Bohren von Brunnen, das pro Bohnung etwa 6000 Pfund kostet und dabei für 200 Menschen bis zu 100 Jahre lang die Trinkwasserversorgung sichert.

In der aufstrebenden Whiskeywelt auf der grünen Insel sticht aktuell die familiengeführte Farm Distillery Ballykeefe, idyllisch ca. 15min von der Stadt Kilkenny gelegen, heraus.


Das Motto der Brennerei „From our fields to your glass“ könnte dabei treffender nicht sein:
Die Gerste wird auf den familieneigenen Feldern angebaut und erst dann geerntet, wenn sie die höchste Reife erreicht hat. Das bei der Ernte anfallende Stroh wird in den Wintermonaten als Einstreu für das Vieh der Farm verwendet, und die Nebenprodukte der Destillation werden an das Tier verfüttert, sodass außerhalb des Bauernhofes absolut keine Abfälle entstehen.

Neu eingetroffen sind zwei Single Cask Abfüllungen:

Der in Trinkstärke abgefüllte Single Pot Still eine Altersangabe erhalten – und grundsätzlich ist es so, dass die Single Casks peu à peu älter werden.

Bei der Single Pot Still Cask Strength handelt es sich um eine ältere Abfüllung, die wir exklusiv für eine Messe erhalten haben – und dementsprechend sind dies Restflaschen.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Die Nase ist intensiv, aber sanft mit echter Tiefe und Charakter, mit kräftigen Noten von warmem Karamell, fester Eiche, Vanille, Malzgetreide und einem kleinen Hauch von Kokosnuss. 

Geschmack: Der Geschmack hat zunächst einen Ausbruch von Orangenschalen und dunkler Schokolade in der Mitte der Zunge. Dann eine Welle von Gewürzen mit Noten von Lakritze, Nelken, Kardamom und einem Hauch von beruhigendem Mentholöl im Hintergrund. Ein kleiner Spritzer Wasser beruhigt das fassstarke Feuer und verstärkt das üppige Mundgefühl.

Nachklang: Langer, langsam brennender Abgang, dominiert von eingemachten Orangen und Anis.

Tasting Notes

Im Caol Ila 2015/2025 treffen zitrusfrische Torfwellen von Islays Ostküste auf Nussschokolade und Trockenfrüchte. Der Glen Ord 2012/2025 schenkt Genießern einen raren unabhängigen Blick auf die Brennerei aus den Highlands, deren Whiskys als The Singleton vermarktet werden. Nach zwölf Jahren in First Fill Bourbon Barrels vereint er Vanille und Malzbonbons mit sanfter Würze.
 
Der leichte Tullibardine 2015/2025 setzt auf First und Second Fill Oloroso Sherry Butts, die den Highlander mit Noten von zartschmelzenden Schokoladenpralinen, Datteln und würziger Eiche ausstatten.

ABERFELDY® Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky kündigt die Einführung einer neuen Abfüllung an: den ABERFELDY 25 Year, gereift in First-Fill-Oloroso-Sherryfässern.

Der neue 25-jährige Single Malt, den es bereits zum 125. Jubiläum als Sonderedition gab, ist ab sofort in der aktuellen Core Range von ABERFELDY 12 Year, ABERFELDY 16 Year und ABERFELDY 21 Year erhältlich und präsentiert sich in einem neuen edlen Verpackungsdesign.

Seit 1898 wird ABERFELDY im Herzen Schottlands – dort, wo der höchste Berg, der tiefste See und das längste Tal Perthshires zusammentreffen – mit Hingabe und Handwerkskunst destilliert. Die Brennerei folgt bis heute ihren traditionellen Idealen: Respekt für handwerkliches Können, enge Verbundenheit mit der Natur und ein kompromissloses Streben nach dem „Gold Standard“ des Single Malts.

ABERFELDY repräsentiert den klassischen Stil der Central Highlands – bekannt für weiche, honigartige Fruchtnoten, sanfte Würze und eine malzige Tiefe. Die neue, gereifte Abfüllung ergänzt das bestehende Kernsortiment und eröffnet eine neue Ära für die Marke.

Der ABERFELDY 25 Year reifte über zwei Jahrzehnte in einer Kombination aus Refill Hogsheads und Refill Butts und wurde anschließend mehr als zwölf Monate lang in First-Fill-Oloroso-Sherryfässern veredelt. Diese außergewöhnliche Reifung verleiht dem Whisky ein komplexes Aromenspiel und eine besonders üppige Textur.

Stephanie Macleod, Master Blenderin bei ABERFELDY, erklärt:

„Diese Abfüllung trägt den charakteristischen, honigartigen und wachsartigen Stil von ABERFELDY – luxuriös, saftig und mit einer betonten Würze durch die Oloroso-Fässer. Durch den Verzicht auf Kühlfiltration und Farbstoffe sowie den höheren Alkoholgehalt von 46 % Vol. erreichen wir eine neue Tiefe und Intensität im Geschmack – mit all den wunderbaren Aromen, für die ABERFELDY bekannt ist. Dieser Schritt hebt unseren Single Malt auf ein neues Niveau.”

Der UVP beträgt 459,99 €. Die Abfüllung ist erhältlich im Ecom-Bereich und in ausgewählten Fachgeschäften.

Die älteste lizenzierte und aktive Whiskybrennerei Englands, The English Distillery, feiert in diesem Jahr ihr 18-jähriges Jubiläum (wir berichteten). Nun stellt die Brennerei mit The English Chapter 18 ihre erste limitierte Abfüllung anlässlich dieser Feier vor. Mit diesem Bottling führt die Brennerei ihre Chapter-Reihe, die 2015 nach dem Chapter 17 pausierte, weiter fort.

Für The English Chapter 18 wurden 10, 12, 15 und 18 Jahre gereifte Whiskys aus Bourbon-, Sherry- und Virgin Oak-Fässern miteinander vermählt. Größtenteils wurden die Whisky aus ungetorfter Gerste hergestellt, für einige Malts wurde allerdings leicht getorfte Gerste verwendet. The English Chapter 18 zeigt Noten von Obstkompott, Rhabarber, Bonbons in Vanillesauce, Eiche, gebranntem Toffee, würzigem schwarzem Pfeffer, braunem Zucker und Zimt am Gaumen.

The English Chapter 18 ist mit 46 % Vol. abgefüllt und weltweit auf 7.500 einzeln nummerierte Flaschen limitiert. Die Abfüllung ist für £75 (das wären nicht ganz 90 €) auch über die Website der Brennerei erhältlich.

Mit weiteren acht Bottlings schließt Serge Valentin heute seine fünfteilige Serie der Verkostungen von Glentauchers-Malts ab. Alles in allem fanden 43 Abfüllungen einen Platz in dieser Reihe, die insgesamt jeden Menge gute, sehr gute und auch hervorragende Bewertungen erhielten. Nicht viel anders stellt sich die heutige Session dar, die allerdings zum Schluss einen nicht überzeugenden Whisky aus längst vergangenen Tagen präsentiert. Ab morgen dürfen wir etwas anderes als Glentauchers erwarten, hier erst einmal die Übersicht von heute:

Dauerhaft das Eagle Rare Portfolio ergänzen wird, wie die Buffalo Trace Distillery mitteilt, die neue Abfüllung Eagle Rare 12 Year Old. Der Whiskey wurde aus Buffalo Traces Mashbill Nr. 1 destilliert und reifte mindestens 12 Jahre. In die Flaschen kommt er danach mit 95 Proof, also 47,5 % Vol..

Eagle Rare 12 Year Old wird mit Aromen von süßer Eiche und zarten Mandelnoten beschrieben. Am Gaumen präsentiert er sich in einer ausgeprägten Komplexität mit subtilen Vanille- und gerösteten Eichennoten. Er endet mit einem reichen, anhaltenden Finish mit warmen Toffee-Noten.

Ab diesem Monat ist Eagle Rare 12 Year Old in den USA zu einem empfohlenen Verkaufspreis von 49,99 US-Dollar für die 750-ml-Flasche erhältlich (das wären knapp 44 €). Die internationale Märkte folgen dann im Herbst 2025.

Ihre rauchige Seite stellt Glen Moray mit ihrer neuen Abfüllung vor (die wir bereits erwartet haben). Für Glen Moray Smoky 12 Years Old verwendete die Speyside-Destillerie getorfte Gerste, um dem Whisky subtile Noten von süßem Lagerfeuerrauch zu verleihen. Dieses Bottling wird da Glen Moray-Sortiment dauerhaft ergänzen. Der Single Malt reifte in zwei verschiedenen Fassarten: Amerikanische Eiche für Vanille- und Karamellnoten mit einem sanften Bourbon-Unterton; und europäische Eiche für kräftigere Vanillearomen mit Tanninen, Pfeffer, Früchten und zarten Gewürzen.

Tasting notes

Colour: Golden straw
Nose: gentle smoke floats over notes of vanilla and orchard fruits, lightly touched by spice.
Taste: caramelised apples and baked plums balanced by peaty undertones, with hints of oak
Finish: delightfully long, as fruity notes fade into smouldering bonfire embers and oak tannins
