Aus der Speyside-Brennerei Glenrothes kommt eine neue Abfüllung, der Glenrothes „The 32“ (wir hatten ihn Ihnen schon im April als TTB-Neuheit vorgestellt). Wie der Name schon sagt, ist der Whisky 32 Jahre alt und wurde in Trinkstärke mit 43% vol. Alkoholgehalt abgefüllt. Auf der Webseite von Glenrothes wird er wie folgt beschrieben:

Nose
Stewed plums and cherries. Treacle toffee and dark brown sugar lend sweetness, whilst Brazil nuts and orange oil contribute a delicate quality. Notes of polished oak add depth, accompanied by maple, sweet cinnamon and a hint of Earl Grey tea.
Palate
Dried figs, dark chocolate and almond brittle. Candied orange peel offers some contrast to the sweetness, accompanied by the warmth of oak and lingering spice.
Finish
Luxurious and complex with velvety sweetness and depth.
Schon unter den vorigen Besitzern, den Gebrüdern Armstrong, hatte Bladnoch getorfte Whiskys im Angebot – eine Tradition, die unter dem neuen australischen Besitzer David Prior und dem Master Distiller Dr Nick Savage weiter fortgesetzt wird. Bladnoch Distillery unveils new Peated Collection of Lowland single malt whiskies
Bladnoch, Scotland’s southernmost distillery, has released a new Peated Collection of Lowland single malt whiskies to celebrate the rarity and uniqueness of the distillery’s peated history.
The Bladnoch 2024 Peated Collection features four single malt whiskies made with peated barley, each hand selected by Master Distiller, Dr Nick Savage to showcase the distillery’s innovation and taste-first approach to whisky making in crafting its bold Galloway spirit.
Drawing on the extraordinary peated casks maturing in Bladnoch’s 207-year-old bluestone warehouses, the new limited annual release collection comprises Alinta Reserve and three Peated Single Cask expressions, each displaying distinct flavours and characteristics, for those who love a dram with fire. It follows the distillery’s inaugural Peated Collection in 2023.
Alinta is derived from indigenous Australian languages and evokes images of fire and flames. Alinta Reserve is a limited batch release of only 2,000 bottles selected annually by Nick from a special reserve of Bladnoch’s rare peated casks. For the 2024 release, Pedro Ximénez sherry casks have been chosen, presenting a nose of smoked apricot jam with woodland trees, a palate of smoky cola cubes with cinnamon and nutmeg and a very long and warm campfire finish.
The three Peated Collection Single Cask whiskies have been created using the distillery’s 2009 maturing stocks, which are 100% peated and exceptionally scarce. Under the distillery’s previous ownership of brothers Raymond and Colin Armstrong, Bladnoch produced spirit made exclusively with peated barley for the entire year.
When Master Distiller Dr Nick Savage joined in 2019 following the acquisition by Australian businessman David Prior in 2015, he discovered a treasure trove of whisky maturing in the warehouses, including peated single malt. Staying true to Bladnoch’s spirit of experimentation, Nick created the Peated Collection to pay homage to this unique period in the distillery’s history. Today, Bladnoch Distillery undertakes an annual peat production during the month of October, continuing the Armstrong brothers’ legacy of distilling peated spirit.
Each year, Nick accesses these remarkable 2009 stocks to identify and release three Peated Single Casks, selecting Tokaji, Bourbon and Rum casks for 2024.
Matured in a 2009 Tokaji Barrel and with an ABV of 51.7%, the first Peated Single Cask expression is limited to 224 bottles and reveals cut grass, chocolate orange and campfire notes. On the nose, apricots with fresh cut grass prevail, while on the palate there is smoky chocolate orange, and the finish is characterised by campfire glow.
Imparting smoky barbecue with apple and lemon aromas, smoky banana cake flavours and a dry and smoky finish, the second Peated Single Cask whisky has matured in a 2009 Bourbon Barrel. With an ABV of 55%, it is limited to 192 bottles.
The third and final Peated Single Cask release in the collection, the 2009 Rum Barrel edition is a single malt whisky limited to 158 bottles. With an ABV of 54.2%, it delivers notes of tropical fruits and smoky honey on the nose, smoky apple pie with Refreshers sweets on the palate and a very sweet and long finish.
Dr Nick Savage, Master Distiller at Bladnoch Distillery, said: “Bladnoch has a rich history and heritage spanning more than two centuries and the Peated Collection shines a light on the breadth and quality of the distillery’s maturing stocks.
“When I joined the team, I discovered an incredibly diverse range of whisky maturing in the warehouses, including exceptional peated single malt from our 2009 stocks, and our Peated Collection is a celebration and a tribute to this unique part of our history.
“Our taste-first philosophy, rooted in our whisky making knowledge provides a platform to showcase our bold Galloway spirit, which is symbolic of the area and the community.”
Each single malt in the Bladnoch Peated Collection is non-chill filtered and natural in colour. Bladnoch Alinta Reserve retails for £120 GBP and each Peated Single Cask whisky is priced at £200 GBP.

Die Echter Nordhäuser Traditionsbrennerei präsentiert ihren zweiten Whisky aus der „Meisterstück“-Linie. Der Roggen Whisky reifte neun Jahre im Eichenholzfass und wurde anschließend ein Jahr im Portweinfass veredelt. Ab 24. Oktober ist diese besondere, zehn Jahre gelagerte, Edition erhältlich. Die Anzahl ist auf 1.200 Flaschen limitiert.
Es wird wieder meisterhaft! Die Korn-Spezialistinnen und -Spezialisten aus Nordhausen haben ihren zweiten „Meisterstück“ Whisky geschaffen: Ein Roggen Whisky, bei dem das edle Whiskydestillat innerhalb einer Dekade seine ganz eigene, unvergleichliche, roggenechte Charakteristik entwickelte. Neun Jahre lang lagerte das Destillat im Eichenholzfass und wurde anschließend ein Jahr lang im Portweinfass gefinisht. Das Ergebnis: mahagonifarben, weich, rund und harmonisch im Geschmack. Ein Roggen Whisky mit 45 vol. %, der nach Echter Nordhäuser Brenntradition hergestellt wurde.
Expertise seit 1507 – meisterhaft umgesetzt
Diese Brenntradition besteht bereits seit 1507, so lange wird in Nordhausen am Harz Korn gebrannt. Dank dieser Expertise – und der Zeit, die die Brennmeister ihren Destillaten geben, um zu reifen – entstehen hier die besten Korn- und Whisky-Destillate. Durch die Fasslagerung und den Austausch mit dem Holz werden die Brände von Tag zu Tag runder und milder im Geschmack und erhalten ihre einzigartige Note und ihre unverwechselbare Färbung. Das beweist auch der „Meisterstück“ Whisky No. 2 mit seiner ganz besonderen Geschmackskomposition, die an rotes Früchtekompott erinnert, gepaart mit der Eleganz eines fein abgestimmten Röst- und Holzbouquets. „Der Nachklang ist lang und weich, mit Noten von

Ein Blended Malt aus indischem und schottischem Whisky ist das neueste Angebot aus dem Hause Douglas Laing Ltd., im Rahmen ihrer Double Barrel Serie, die bereits einige interessante Abfüllungen auf den Markt gebracht hat. Welche schottische oder indische Brennerei an der Abfüllung beteiligt ist, wird nicht bekanntgegeben.
2000 Flaschen gibt es vom Double Barrel India & Scotland, abgefüllt mit 50% vol. Alkoholstärke. Der Blended Malt wird weltweit veröffentlicht, der Preis wird aus Glasgow mit 89 Euro rpo Flasche beziffert.

Die Destillerie Highland Park hat ein neues Verpackungsdesign für die Flaschen im Handel und im Global Travel Retail vorgestellt. Es wird ab sofort global ausgerollt, aber natürlich kann und wird es noch einige Zeit dauern, bis es alle Outlets erreicht.
Im Handel werden zunächst die Verpackungen für den 12yo, den 15yo und den 18yo neu gestaltet. Das Logo ist aktualisiert, man hat frische, leichtere Farben für den Auftritt gewählt. Die Etiketten sind mit Heidekraut gesprenkelt, eine Anspielung auf eine Geschmackskomponente in den Whiskys von der Orkney-Destillerie. Der Karton trägt ein angedeutetes Holzmuster, es spielt auf die Bedeutung des Holzes der Fässer auf den Geschmack und die Reifung an. Der Karton wird übrigens aus FSC-zertifizierten Wäldern hergestellt und ist zu 100 % recycelbar.
Auch die Flaschen sind leicht verändert – und sie sind nun alle durchsichtig, damit man den Whisky und dessen natürliche Farbe sehen kann. Zudem wurde ein“Product of Orkney“ in die Flasche geprägt, um den Ursprung des Whiskys aufzugreifen.
Im Global Travel Retail ist man mit einigen Elementen der Gestaltung der Vewrpackungen für den Handel gefolgt, setzt aber auf kräftigere Farben beim Karton, die auf die neuen Titel der Abfüllungen anspielen: Der 14yo ist nun der „Land of Orkney„, der 16yo der „Sea of Orkney“ und der 18yo der „Sky of Orkney„.
Sowohl bei den allgemeinen Abfüllungen als auch bei den Abfüllungen im Travel Retail bleibt der Whisky unverändert, betont die Brennerei. Das Design wurde neu gestaltet, um ein größeres Zielpublikum und vor allem jüngeres ansprechen zu können.
Mit der heutigen Verkostung widmet sich Serge Valentin Abfüllungen aus der Brennerei Macallan. Er startet mit einer Originalabfüllung und geht dann zu den Speymalts von Gordon & MacPhail über, bevor er bei unabhängig abgefüllten Bottlings landet – und das Tasting mit einem Blended Malt beschließt, in dem Macallan stakr vertreten sein könnte (darum auch die etwas seltsame Überschrift, die wir gewählt haben).
Wenn, so Serge eine Session wie diese die Bedeutung unabhängiger Abfüller nicht betonen würde, welche dann? Gerade in diesem Umfeld, wo sich bei den Single Malts eine Entwicklung abzeichnet, wo Marken unwichtiger werden, Preise fallen und die echte Qualität von Abfüllungen wieder steigt, werden sie immer wichtiger werden. Sein Abschlusssatz:
Da Markenarroganz – oder ungerechtfertigte Premiumisierung – im Niedergang begriffen ist, müssen Unabhängige ein Teil der Zukunft sein.

29 Years of Single Grain Goodness
Destilliert im Jahr 1994, verbrachte der Whisky zunächst 28 Jahre in einem Refill Bourbon Cask, wo er ungestört sein klassisches Geschmacksprofil entwickeln konnte: weich und cremig, mit einem Wechselspiel aus Honig und Vanille, exotischen Früchten, Rumrosinen, einem Hauch Möbelpolitur sowie Kokosmakronen. Die anschließende 12-monatige Nachreifung im erstbefüllten Amontillado Sherry Quarter Cask sorgte für besonders intensiven Kontakt von Fass und Destillat – und rundete den Single Grain mit einer gehörige Portion Gewürznoten, der verführerischen Süße dunkler Beeren, Honigkuchen, Tabak, Toffee und Schokolade harmonisch ab.

Palate:Zu Beginn kühl, sehr weich und für 40,1 % erstaunlich mundfüllend, zeigt sich zunächst der klassische Grain-Charakter mit Aromen von Möbelpolitur, Kokos-makronen und Rumrosinen, bis sich das Finish im Amontillado Quarter Cask mit intensiven Gewürznoten, Beerenkompott, Tabak, delikatem Honigkuchen und einem Hauch Schokoladenraspeln bemerkbar macht …
Finish:mittellang, wärmend und leicht trocken – die Süße eines Bounty-Schokoriegels wechselt sich ab mit feinen Vanille- & Holznoten, bitter-würzigen Walnüssen und etwas Toffee.

Eine der Vorzeige-Brennereien der Speyside exklusiv entdecken? Das macht ein neues Single Cask von The GlenAllachie Feinschmeckern hierzulande möglich. Mit The GlenAllachie 2011/2024 – PX Puncheon zeigt sich die von Koryphäe Billy Walker geleitete Destillerie von ihrer maximal individuellen Seite.
Mit einer mehr als 50 Jahre lang geschärften Expertise für die Reifung und Vermählung von Single Malt Whisky, wählte der Master Blender ein einzelnes Pedro Ximénez Sherry Puncheon für den deutschen Markt aus. Nach 12 Jahren der Reifung verwöhnt der mahagonifarbene Whisky anspruchsvolle Gaumen mit üppigen, herbstlichen Noten von Rosinen, Feigenkonfitüre, Ingwerwürze und Pflaumensirup mit der für The GlenAllachie prägenden Note von Heidehonig.

Irland reicht Schottland kraftvoll die Hand: Turntable vereint Single Pot Still Whiskey mit Scotch
Mit Erwartungen zu brechen, ist das Lebenselixier von Turntable. Aber auch die irische Dingle Distillery kennt sich damit gut aus – zum Beispiel als die erste unabhängige Brennerei, die seit über einem Jahrhundert Single Pot Still Whiskey herausbrachte. Für den Turntable x Dingle – Collaboration Drop 02 reichen sich das Blending House und die Traditionsbewahrer kraftvoll die Hand.
Im Zentrum des Blended Whiskys stehen die Gewürznoten eines in Oloroso Hogsheads gereiften Dingle Single Pot Still Whiskeys. Unterstrichen werden diese durch die Vermählung mit schottischem Single Malt und Single Grain aus Rye Barrels, PX Sherry Puncheons und First-Fill-Bourbonfässern. Das Ergebnis? Ein vollmundiger und mit 52% vol. kräftiger Dram, der Zigarrengewürze und Rosinenschokolade mit Marzipan, Muskatnuss und Zitrusfrüchten verschmelzen lässt, um in einem komplexen, aber abgerundeten Finish auszuklingen.
Die neue Abfüllung der Reihe Collaborations knüpft an den bislang persönlichsten Blend des Hauses an. Track 6: All My Life enthält Whiskys von Brennereien, mit denen die Turntable-Gründer in der Vergangenheit zusammengearbeitet haben, etwa The GlenAllachie.

Die Nc’nean-Reihe Quiet Rebels ist den Menschen gewidmet, die Schottlands führende Bio-Brennerei zu dem machen, was sie ist. Noch individueller zeigt sich Nc’nean mit zwei exklusiven Single Casks für Kirsch-Kunden. Das Fass für den Nc’nean Aon – Bourbon Single Cask #17-232 wurde im ersten Jahr der Destillation befüllt. Der cremige Single Malt mit Noten von Lebkuchen, Orangenschalen, Schlagsahne und einem Hauch von Zedernholz rangiert damit unter den ältesten Abfüllungen der Bio-Brennerei.
Der Nc’nean Aon – STR Cask #18-393 wurde dagegen aus einem einzelnen STR Red Wine Cask (STR = „scraped“ oder „shaved“, „toasted“, „recharred“) abgefüllt. Rauch-Fans können mit einem neuen Single Malt aufatmen, bei dem dänische Innovation auf portugiesische Tradition trifft. Der Stauning Smoke Tawny Port Cask ist eine limitierte Auflage, die die raue Essenz von westjütländischem Heidekraut und Torfrauch mit der komplexen Tiefe von Tawny Port verbindet.
Aus 100 Prozent dänischem Gerstenmalz in direktbefeuerten Pot Stills destilliert, reifte der Whisky vollständig in erstbefüllten Tawny Port Casks. Das Resultat balanciert ausgeprägten Rauchgeschmack mit süßen Früchten und Gewürzen: Auf süßen Lagerfeuerrauch, Thymian und Heidehonig folgen Noten von Salzkaramell, Zitrusfrüchten und sanftem Rauch, die mit reifen Pflaumen und Buttertoffee ausklingen.
Dass Whiskyerzeugung ein sehr energie- und wasseraufwendiges Unterfangen ist, ist kein Geheimnis. Um diese Produktion gleichzeitig effizienter und umweltbewusster zu gestalten, suchen Brennereien immer wieder nach neuen Wegen zur Reduktion von Abfall oder Energieverbrauch.
Einen interessanten neuen Weg geht hier Eden Mill in den Lowlands. Man ist eine langfristige Partnerschaft mit dem Biotech-Unternehmen MiAlgae eingegangen (das Unternehmen ist seit längerem Partner der Whiskyindustrie – siehe hier und hier), um das Abwasser der Whiskyproduktion sekundär nutzbar zu machen. Damit wird MiAlgae Mikroalgen ernähren, die damit eine nachhaltige Quelle für Omega-3 Fettsäuren werden. Der Gedanke dahinter ist, dass man den Fioschfang zum Zweck der Omega-3 Produktion damit überflüssig machen kann und so einen Beitrag gegen die Überfischung leistet.

EDEN MILL ANNOUNCE LONG-TERM PARTNERSHIP WITH BIOTECH MIALGAE

Independent Scottish distillery Eden Mill has announced a partnership with leading Scottish biotech company, and Earthshot Prize finalists, MiAlgae, to repurpose whisky effluent, a by-product of distillation, to grow microalgae as a sustainable source of Omega-3s.
Global demand for Omega-3s, traditionally sourced from wild-caught fish, is driving unsustainable overfishing – with 16 million tonnes of wild-caught oceanic fish annually.
MiAlgae offers a circular solution by growing algae – the original source of Omega-3s – through an innovative process that eliminates the need for fish, ensuring a stable and sustainable supply of these essential nutrients.
In this first of-its-kind partnership with a distillery, MiAlgae will utilise whisky by-products from Eden Mill’s distillation process to nurture Omega-3-rich microalgae. MiAlgae’s process operates at scale and is cost effective, ensuring sustainability remains affordable without compromising impact.
Eden Mill has installed an effluent storage tank at its distillery as they progress toward the completion of their brand home, located just seven minutes from St Andrews. Due to re-commence distillation early in 2025, Eden Mill will open its doors to visitors from Spring onwards.
Commenting on the partnership, Rennie Donaldson, Chief Executive Officer at Eden Mill, said:
“We are delighted to announce our long-term partnership with MiAlgae, making use of their advanced bio-technology to create sustainable Omega-3 from our distillery’s effluent waste. Sustainability is a hugely important part of our distillery plans, and for our business as a whole, so the team are excited to see a by-product given an environmentally friendly second-use.”
Douglas Martin, Founder and Managing Director at MiAlgae, said:
“By partnering with Eden Mill, we will use nutrients from their distillery by-products to grow our eco-friendly Omega-3-rich microalgae. We’ll also upcycle the effluent to clean water. Their shared commitment to sustainability aligns perfectly with our mission to advance biotechnology for good.”
MiAlgae has recently been recognised as a finalist for the prestigious Earthshot Prize – founded by Prince William to find ‘the most innovative solutions to the world’s greatest environmental challenges’. What’s more, the firm also secured £14 million in funding to accelerate its operations and scale production to meet surging global demand.
Eden Mill will distil both gin and single malt Scotch whisky in its new distillery, which will also feature a retail space and cafe, as well as a bar on the top floor looking out over the Eden Estuary. More detail on the visitor centre and ticket bookings will be available soon.

In the past six months, MiAlgae have produced enough Omega-3 rich microalgae to save 2.4 million fish from being caught. They’ve also recycled enough wastewater in a year to fill nearly 300 Olympic-sized swimming pools and prevented the release of 150,000 kg of CO2—equivalent to taking about 500 round-trip flights between London and Edinburgh.

Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Marsala Wine Cask combines three sister casks together: numbers 17/549, 17/550, and 17/563. These three casks were filled in early August 2017 with the distillery’s rich and smoky peated style before they were married together and bottled at cask strength on the 23rd of September 2024.
Marsala is a fortified wine produced in Sicily and made from grapes grown on the island. Some Marsala is matured in a traditional solera-style system, known as ‘in perpetuum’, where the cask is continually topped up with new vintages of Marsala as stock is removed for bottling. Marsala wine is typically associated with flavours such as honey, tobacco, cherry, and apple.
Bottled at a natural 60.2% ABV with 860 bottles available, this release harnesses the distillery’s powerful sweet smoke signature peated style with notes of toffee apples, roasted peach, smoky bacon, salted caramel, and blackberry contributed by the Marsala Wine cask.

The Glasgow 1770 Islay Cask Finish release is the result of a single finishing cask, bottled at six years of age. The whisky was initially matured in a virgin American white oak cask from Kelvin Cooperage, Kentucky, before a period of secondary maturation within a refill bourbon hogshead from an Islay distillery.
Islay is a Scottish island on the west coast of Scotland that is synonymous with peated single malt scotch whisky. The use of island peat typically offers Islay single malt maritime notes of salty smoke, fresh citrus, and a herbal medicinal character.
Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Islay Cask Finish, is the first time The Glasgow Distillery has used this type of cask for maturation. Cask No. 18/1114 was a virgin American white oak cask filled on the 1st of May 2018 with the distillery’s rich and smoky peated style before the contents were transferred into the refill bourbon hogshead for a period of secondary maturation of two years and three months prior to being bottled on the 20th of August 2024.
Bottled at 57.3% ABV with 303 bottles available, this release showcases the impact of peat from two distinct Scottish regions. The Glasgow 1770 Madeira Cask Finish release is a six-year old bottling of a single finishing cask. This whisky was initially matured in a virgin American white oak cask from Kelvin Cooperage, Kentucky, before a finishing period of one year and eleven months in a cask that previously held Madeira wine.
Madeira is a Portuguese fortified wine that shares its name with the island on which it is made. Produced from a variety of grapes, Madeira has a unique ageing process whereby the contents within the cask are heated and cooled multiple times throughout its maturation lifespan. This deliberate technique that replicates the sea-ageing (known as ‘Vinho da Roda) that would occur as boats passed through the tropics on long voyages after taking on the wine at the convenient sea port of the Island of Madeira. Madeira is also picked from younger grapes which have a higher acidity than other wines, allowing Madeira to be aged for much longer periods. This unique production and ageing technique offer Madeira with flavours often associated with stewed fruits, orange peel, and a rich nuttiness.
Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Madeira Cask Finish, is a limited edition release of a single finishing hogshead cask. Cask No. 18/1191 was filled on the 16th of March 2018 with the distillery’s rich and smoky peated style before the contents were transferred into the refill Madeira hogshead for a finishing period of one year and eleven months before bottling on the 20th of August 2024.
Bottled at 58% ABV with 298 bottles available, this release gains a pleasant campfire smoke from the 50ppm malted barley used, a rich dark fruit-forward characteristic from the initial virgin oak maturation, and a jam-packed tropical fruit profile from the Madeira wine influence.

Unsere Liquid Crew-Serie entführt Whisk(e)y-Enthusiasten auf eine Geschmacksreise durch die USA. Mit jedem Release heben wir das unverwechselbare Profil der amerikanischen Whisk(e)ys hervor. Diesmal führen wir Sie in die faszinierende Welt des Rye Whiskeys, der sich durch seinen hohen Roggenanteil auszeichnet. Gesetzlich vorgeschrieben beträgt der Roggenanteil mindestens 51 %, doch unser Single Barrel Rye übertrifft diese Anforderung mit einem beeindruckenden Anteil von bis zu 90 %. Er reifte sechs Jahre lang in neuen, ausgebrannten Eichenfässern, die ihm seine unverwechselbaren Aromen verleihen: Pfeffer, Gewürze, Zitrusfrüchte und ein Hauch von Minze. Mit einem Alkoholgehalt von 46,0 % bietet dieser Whiskey eine ausgewogene Kombination aus Kraft und Komplexität.

Award-winning Scotch whisky brand releases rare Mizunara and Oloroso-finished whisky
Leading independent Scotch whisky distillery The GlenAllachie debuts the first single malt to join its Master of Wood series: a 17-year-old Mizunara & Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish.
Spearheaded by whisky maker of 52 years, Billy Walker, the multi-award-winning Speyside producer is known for its flair for sourcing and managing both quality and unusual casks from around the world.
The new 17-year-old expression (UK RRSP £260.99) features whisky matured in rare Mizunara oak barrels combined with spirit from rich Oloroso Sherry puncheons and hogsheads.
Mizunara is a scarce Japanese oak seldom used for whisky maturation due to its high cost and the challenges it poses in coopering and maturation. Its tendency to twist as it grows can create issues during stave production, and its porous nature means its casks are inclined to leak.
Translating to ‘water oak’ in English, Mizunara has very low tannins but high levels of vanilla-flavoured compounds. Its casks typically impart notes of sweet spices, sandalwood and charred oak.
Produced in Spain’s Andalusia region, Oloroso is a dry Sherry style subjected to lengthy oxidative ageing without a ‘flor’ yeast layer. It is known for its dark colour and pronounced nutty, dried fruit qualities.
The unique expression is the first in the brand’s new Masters of Wood series: a super-premium arm of its Wood Collection reserved for its most luxurious and experimental wood finishes.
The distillery’s tagline ‘Whisky in Good Hands’ and the new Masters of Wood series solidify The GlenAllachie’s standing as cask experts within the Scotch whisky arena.
The Mizunara & Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish is presented at 50% ABV, without artificial colouring or chill filtration.
Commenting on the high-end expression, Walker shares:
“As a chemist, I find both cask management and blending truly fascinating. This release combines the finest and rarest of casks with carefully considered blending. I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked with Mizunara, a very uncommon Japanese oak that provides exceptional character but, in turn, throws plenty of challenges our way. Having said that, the result is beyond worth the trials and tribulations.
“The flavour delivery from the Mizunara barrels, interwoven with the nutty, spicy character of the Oloroso casks, culminates in a spectacular single malt with delectable notes of apple strudel, runny honey, chocolate-covered hazelnuts and stem ginger. This is indulgence at its finest.”
